Chapter 341 I just happened to know a friend
"I'm not suitable?!" Hope didn't back down, snorted coldly, and stared straight into Hank's eyes.
"Is it because I'm not smart enough? Or because I'm not strong enough?" She took a step closer. "Or... is it because of my mother? Janet..."
Upon hearing the name "Janet," Hank Pym froze on the spot, his lips trembling slightly.
His gaze began to dart away, unable to meet Hope's eyes directly.
After a long pause, Pym finally spoke slowly: "You...you knew everything?"
"I know everything." Hope held back her tears.
"I know that in 1987, she chose to sacrifice herself to save countless lives, shrinking herself to the subatomic level."
Old Pym slowly covered his face, let out a long sigh, his voice filled with more than twenty years of regret and pain.
"I think about that moment every day, Hope."
"She made that decision, and I could only watch helplessly as she shrank and disappeared completely from my sight."
He walked up to an old photograph of himself and Janet when they were young, both of them smiling brightly.
"Losing her feels like someone has ripped a piece out of my heart."
Hank looked at Hope, his voice pleading.
"You look so much like her, Hope. Your eyes, the way you get angry, even the tone of your voice, are exactly like Janet's."
"I can't let you wear that suit. I can't let you take that risk again. I can't lose you again..."
After Hank Pym's heartfelt confession, the two men calmed down.
Hope's tears finally fell. She walked up to Hank and gently hugged the stubborn old man who had been defiant all his life.
"I'm sorry, Dad... I didn't know you had endured so much all by yourself."
Old Pym gently patted her back, just as he had comforted her when she was a child. The years of estrangement largely dissipated after Janet was mentioned.
A moment later, Hope released Pym, her gaze regaining its resolve.
"Father, we cannot change the past. But now, we must face the threat that Darren poses."
"Now that the old suit has been stolen, there's only one way out. Make another Ant-Man suit. This time, I'll do it myself."
"No!"
Old Pym refused almost reflexively: "Since you know the reason, you should understand why I absolutely refuse to let you wear this outfit!"
"You can't make me take that risk?!"
Hope's voice rose again as she retorted without any politeness.
"So you can justify letting another innocent person take this risk without any remorse?!"
She pressed on relentlessly, bombarding Hank with accusations like a machine gun.
"Other people have families too! Other people have people who love them too!"
"That Scott Lang! You know perfectly well that he has a daughter!"
Hope's tone betrayed disappointment.
"You're willing to let another little girl lose her father just to protect your own daughter? To make her suffer the pain you went through?! What kind of utter nonsense is that, Dr. Pym?!"
Hank Pym was speechless after Hope's retort.
He opened his mouth, wanting to explain himself, but found that he couldn't find any reason to refute it.
Because Hope is absolutely right.
He knew perfectly well that doing so was selfish and cruel, and he subconsciously avoided this issue when choosing Scott Lang. He kept brainwashing himself, telling himself that it was all for the greater good, that it was just a fair deal.
But in reality, he was using other people's lives to ensure his daughter's safety.
Hope looked at her silent father. The words Azu had spoken to her echoed in her mind once more.
"You are more suitable and more qualified than anyone else to inherit his mantle."
Her tone softened, yet it made her seem even more unwavering.
"Father, if you really want to stop all this, you have to trust me. I'm not a hothouse flower; I'm Janet Dane's daughter."
Old Pym looked up and gazed intently at his daughter, whose eyes were filled with unwavering determination. He suddenly realized that his daughter had grown up and possessed the same brave and stubborn spirit as his wife.
He let out a long sigh, as if a heavy burden had been lifted from his shoulders.
"You've grown up, Hope. You're braver than me."
Old Pym gently patted Hope on the shoulder; he finally gave in, but a real problem lay before them.
"But even if I agree to let you put on the suit and stop Darren," he shook his head with a wry smile, pointing to the empty houses around them. "Look at what we have now."
"Darren controls all of Pym Technology's resources. If I were to rely on myself alone, it would take at least two or three years to create another Ant-Man suit."
Old Pym spread his hands: "By then, Darren will have already sold his weapons to terrorists all over the universe."
Upon hearing this harsh reality, Hope remained silent for a long time.
She paced back and forth, looking somewhat troubled.
Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks, looked at her dejected father, and a confident and mysterious smile bloomed on her face.
"Who says you can only rely on yourself?"
"What do you mean?" Old Pym looked up in confusion.
"I happen to know a friend."
Hope took a gold-edged embossed business card out of his handbag and handed it to old Pym.
Old Pym picked up the business card, and after reading the title on it, his brows furrowed tightly.
"Starr Corporation? The parent company of Water International? Hope, you're playing with fire. These capitalists might be even more greedy than Darren."
"He's different, Father."
Hope's mind conjured up Azu's captivating face, and she spoke with certainty.
"I'll arrange for you to meet tomorrow. I'll introduce you to them."
……
At this moment, in a dilapidated apartment in San Francisco.
The room was filled with smoke, and the table was covered with leftover pizza boxes and empty beer cans.
"Dude! This was absolutely the craziest night of my life!"
"I'm telling you, when I heard the gunshots coming from inside the house, I swear, I even had the words on his tombstone ready: Here lies Scott Lang, a good father, and a hapless man riddled with bullets!"
"Shut up."
Scott leaned back in his chair, his eyes fixed on the metal pendant in his hand.
My mind is still a complete mess.
What was supposed to be a simple theft of a retired old man's safe turned into a shootout straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster.
What shocked him even more was the bizarre thing that happened to him tonight.
He carefully poked the teardrop-shaped metal pendant.
It looks like an ordinary piece of metal.
However, this very thing transformed into a shield that blocked the bullets the moment the gunmen fired.
Not only that, it also transformed into a heavy-duty gauntlet, allowing him to punch a fully armed, burly man ten meters away!
"This will bring you good luck and help you out of trouble when you encounter difficulties. It's a gift from a friend."
Scott recalled the wealthy Asian man he had been drinking with in the bar; although they had only just met, he had truly considered him a close friend.
"Just who exactly is this Daniel?"
