Chapter 529 A verbal contract is also a contract
"The Iron Judge," Mephisto explained, "His armor is forged from hellfire and dark magic, a perfect blend of knowledge and magic, born solely for slaughter."
Thanos sized up the two people.
He could sense the destructive power contained within the two of them.
These two are indeed qualified to step onto the Grandmaster's arena.
"And one more?" Thanos looked at Mephisto.
Mephisto smiled mysteriously.
"The last one is a truly powerful warrior. But please allow me to maintain a bit of mystery..."
"He will naturally step in at the most crucial moment. I guarantee he will not let you down."
Thanos stared at him coldly.
He did not believe any of the devil's assurances, especially Mephisto's.
"State your conditions," Thanos said bluntly.
Mephisto revealed a triumphant smile.
"Don't worry, what I want is perfectly reasonable."
"First, I need you to use the Soul Gem to extract something from the body of the Homelander after you win the match. That thing belongs to me, and it must be returned."
Thanos remained noncommittal, gesturing for him to continue.
Morpheus's greed was undisguised.
"Second... half of the Earth's soul."
Thanos's eyes sharpened.
Seeing this, Mephisto calmly explained:
"I know your ways, Thanos. Every time you go to a planet, you wipe out half the population; that's your rule."
"Since Earth was already on your cleanup list, why not cooperate with me? When you raise your sword, let that half of your soul fall directly into my hell dimension."
"You lose nothing; the outcome is the same. The earth is balanced, and I get what I want."
Thanos stared coldly at Mephisto.
He was disgusted by the demons’ greed, but from a purely rational point of view, Mephisto’s proposal did not interfere with his core objectives.
He only cares about halving the population and maintaining a balance in the distribution of cosmic resources.
As for where the dead souls went—whether they vanished into the universe or fell into the hands of demons—it made no difference to him.
"Okay," Thanos replied in a deep voice.
Upon hearing this, Mephisto immediately burst into laughter and quickly reached into his robes, pulling out an old parchment scroll.
"Excellent. Well then, to ensure the interests of both of us..." The parchment scroll slowly floated through the air toward Thanos, "Please sign your name. This is the fairest contract in Hell, binding on both of us."
Thanos glanced down at the parchment scroll, his face showing disdain.
Instead of reaching out to catch it, he swung his hand and knocked it to the ground.
Mephisto's smile vanished.
"What do you mean by this, Thanos?"
"I never sign any contracts." Thanos raised his chin, his words brimming with absolute dominance. "My word is the strongest contract in the universe. What I promise you, I will do."
"If you don't believe me, then take your men and get out!"
The atmosphere between the two instantly froze.
Ebony Maw slightly raised his hand, ready to fight.
Mephisto stared at Thanos for a full half minute.
He tried to find a glimmer of possibility for compromise in the eyes of this purple sweet potato spirit, but all he saw was an unwavering will.
In the end, Mephisto compromised.
He dropped his cold expression, put on that fake smile again, and even clapped his hands exaggeratedly.
"Hahaha! Good! Very good!"
Mephisto took a step back and bowed slightly.
"A verbal agreement is still an agreement. The credibility of a cosmic overlord is naturally trustworthy. I have absolutely no objection."
He turned to look at the Steel Judge and the Red Hood, and made a gesture.
"They are now under your command, Thanos. I wish you victory in the arena."
After saying that, Mephisto's body began to turn into black smoke, gradually dissipating into the air.
With that, all seven spots were filled.
……
New York's Holy See.
Strange was standing in front of a huge brass astrolabe, gently adjusting the scale on it.
"Sizzle—"
A ring of golden sparks spread through the air.
Azu stepped out of the portal and walked straight toward Strange.
Hearing the noise, Strange stopped what he was doing and turned around.
"Teacher Homelander, you look to be in good spirits."
"I've always been fine." Azu walked up to him and said directly, "I'm here to ask about Wanda. Have you found a way to awaken her?"
For Azu, with the demand for special popularity points increasing significantly, Wanda, a leek with huge potential, is now particularly important.
Doctor Strange's talent in the field of magic is beyond doubt.
He will one day be a top-tier mage capable of directly confronting the fully-formed Scarlet Witch of Chaos.
Azu believes that if anyone on Earth could solve Wanda's problems, then Strange would definitely be among the top contenders.
Strange rubbed his temples, looking somewhat tired.
"I've consulted many ancient books, and the situation is somewhat tricky."
Get to the point.
"Wanda's situation is very special... Her consciousness may not be lost in a certain dimension, but rather banished to another parallel universe."
Ah Zu frowned; this was the last thing he wanted to see.
Parallel universe.
This implies infinite variables and infinite interference.
Compared to getting lost in one dimension, finding someone in the multiverse is exponentially more difficult.
"Stephen, is there any way to bring her back?" Azu asked in a deep voice.
Strange paused, seemingly considering his words.
"I stumbled upon some...lost magic." Strange avoided Azu's gaze, his tone somewhat ambiguous.
"One of the spells allows the caster's consciousness to traverse the universe and attach itself to another version of themselves in a parallel universe."
"It's called... Dream Travel Technique."
"Sounds useful..." Azu raised an eyebrow and asked, "But what does this have to do with Wanda?"
"I was thinking..." Strange hesitated for a moment before slowly beginning, "What if I tried to modify that spell, reversing the energy flow of the rune? Instead of projecting consciousness outwards, I could create a reverse dimensional gravitational pull..."
Strange made a spinning motion in the air with his hand.
"Then I can forcibly recall her lost celestial consciousness back to her body."
After hearing this, Azu clapped his hands and said, "Perfect! This is exactly the result we need. Let's do it your way."
"Homelander, it's not that simple..." Strange looked troubled, his expression showing some struggle.
"This spell involves some forbidden power; it is evil... and dangerous."
"This completely contradicts the purpose and principles of Kamar-Taj. If the Ancient One knew, she would never have allowed me to do this."
