Chapter 56 Give Me Two Rounds
Three days later, in Los Angeles, at a retro-style cafe near Union Station.
The sun was shining brightly, but the atmosphere in the café was somewhat eerie.
Skye, dressed in a plain sweatshirt and wearing a baseball cap, sat in the corner, her fingers flying across her laptop.
Meanwhile, in a black SUV outside the coffee shop, Phil Coulson was holding binoculars, a half-smile on his face.
"Sir, target confirmed," Ward's voice came through the headset.
Coulson lowered his binoculars. "May, prepare to move. Don't hurt her."
"receive."
Mei pushed open the car door with a cold face.
Inside the coffee shop.
Skye stared at the deliberately left-in program vulnerability on the screen and silently counted, "Three...two...one."
"May I buy you a drink, miss?"
Ward's voice rang out above her head.
Skye looked up, feigning panic, closed her laptop, and was about to run away.
But the back door was blocked by an Asian woman wearing a leather jacket with a cold expression.
The middle-aged man with a slightly high hairline and a professional smile walked in through the front door.
Phil Coulson.
"Skye, right?" Coulson flashed the black badge. "Homeland Strategic Defense, Attack and Logistics Agency. Or... you can call us S.H.I.E.L.D."
"We'd like to talk to you."
Skye leaned against the wall, her eyes filled with fear and vigilance, her right hand unconsciously touching the cold mechanical watch on her wrist.
"S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Skye sneered. "That organization that wants to turn the whole world into a prison? Are you here to arrest me? Or to silence me?"
"Perhaps."
Melinda May, the woman known as "Iron Rider," appeared behind Skye at some point and spoke coldly.
Skye slowly raised her hands, making a gesture of surrender.
"Fine, fine. The infamous S.H.I.E.L.D. actually mobilized such a large force to arrest a weak woman," Skye mocked. "Should I feel honored?"
"You're not some weak woman," Coulson said, walking up to her and putting away his usual friendly smile.
"You hacked into our database, you exposed our agents, and you made us lose face in front of the whole world."
"Logically speaking, I should lock you in the refrigerator."
Skye's heart skipped a beat, and she resisted the urge to reach for her watch.
"But..." Coulson changed the subject. "I think you have talent."
"We have a new proposal. I've assembled a small team to handle some... special cases."
"We need someone who understands computers. Someone...whose way of thinking is different from ours."
Coulson extended his hand to Skye.
"How about it? Want to see... the real world?"
Skye looked at the hand.
All of this is in Ah Zu's script.
It was exactly the same.
She pretended to hesitate and struggle, and finally sighed reluctantly.
"If I say no, will you let me go?"
"What do you think?" Ward added coldly from the side.
"All right."
Skye rolled her eyes and took Coulson's hand.
"But I have one condition."
"explain."
"I'm taking my bread cart with me," Skye said, pointing to the alleyway.
Coulson smiled.
"No problem. Our plane... is very big."
……
At an altitude of 30,000 feet.
A modified Boeing C-17 transport aircraft, dubbed "Airbus," is currently cruising in the stratosphere.
Skye was led into a lounge; the door was locked.
She sat quietly on the sofa, lost in thought.
The first step was to successfully infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D.
Next, he needs to play the role of a "recruited hacker" well in front of the shrewd people at S.H.I.E.L.D.
The door opened.
Ward walked in, carrying two bottles of water.
"Want some water?" He placed the water on the table, trying to break the ice with his "tough guy charm."
"I don't drink water given to me by people I don't know," Skye said warily, looking at him.
Ward shrugged indifferently, unscrewed the cap, and took a sip.
"Listen, Skye. No matter who you worked for before, or what your purpose was."
Ward sat opposite her, leaning forward, his brow furrowed, exuding an air of oppression.
"Now, you're on my ship. If you dare to try anything funny..."
"What would you do?" Skye glared back defiantly. "Kill me with your eyebrows?"
Ward was taken aback.
"I just wanted to remind you," Ward said coldly, "S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't keep idle people. If you're not valuable, Coulson can't protect you either."
"value?"
Skye smiled.
She took a USB drive out of her pocket and threw it on the table.
"Here is intelligence about three secret outposts of 'Project Centipede' that have been operating in Los Angeles recently."
"This is a gift I'm giving you to welcome us."
Ward froze, his eyebrows twitching involuntarily.
He picked up the USB drive and glanced at Skye with a complicated expression.
Project Centipede is S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most troublesome case recently. A super serum capable of causing human bodies to explode is spreading through the streets.
"How did you get it?" Ward asked.
"I have my own channels," Skye smiled mysteriously. "After all, I have friends too."
This was of course given to me by Azu.
Vought's intelligence network has infiltrated the underworld. That so-called "Centipede Warrior" is nothing more than a degraded version of the Extremis virus created by Hydra.
Azu gave this information to Skye so that she could quickly establish herself in S.H.I.E.L.D.
"very good."
Ward put away the USB drive and stood up.
"It seems... you're more useful than I thought."
He walked to the door and stopped.
"Welcome to S.H.I.E.L.D., Skye."
The door closed.
Skye breathed a sigh of relief and gently stroked the watch on her wrist.
"I did it, Fatherlander."
……
The Manhattan skyline outside the window was dazzling like twinkling stars, but Ah Zu wasn't in the mood to appreciate it.
His attention was completely focused on the system panel.
Current Special Popularity Value: 69500
Wu Yanzu stared at the number, his fingers tapping unconsciously on the armrest of his seat.
"That's almost 70,000..." he muttered to himself, his brows furrowed slightly.
Based on my past life as a Kryptonian, I should have saved up 300,000 by now, and do a 10-pull to try my luck at getting an SSR.
But the problem is, he's a gambler.
"Damn it, I can't stand it anymore! A single pull brings a miracle, but a ten-pull ruins everything!"
He stared at the "Superhero Blind Box" option on the panel, which was radiating an alluring glow, as if saying, "Come on, have some fun, we have plenty of time anyway."
"System," Wu Yanzu communicated in his mind, "we need to discuss something. Your lottery interface is too plain. There aren't even any special effects. I'm not very satisfied."
The system did not respond.
Wu Yanzu pouted. "Next time, could you add a sound effect? Like when I draw something good, you could yell something like, 'Wow! Gold... Legendary!' Can't you add a little ceremony?"
The system remained silent, as if it had crashed.
"Fine, you're so high and mighty, you think you're so great."
Wu Yanzu rolled his eyes and stopped talking nonsense.
"Come on, all in! Give me two shots!"
