Become a Homelander and a Marvel superstar

Chapter 99 Fighting Side by Side with Me

The Fox News anchor is broadcasting with a serious expression:

"...Now, a breaking news briefing."

"Former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and current Secretary General of the World Security Council, Alexander Pierce, just held a press conference in Washington."

The camera cut to the press room of the Tri-Wing building.

Pierce stood in front of the podium with a somber expression, a video playing on the huge screen behind him.

The video shows Steve Rogers attacking agents in an elevator.

"It is with great regret that I tell you all," Pierce said in a somber voice, "that our revered Captain America, Steve Rogers... has betrayed us."

The entire audience erupted in uproar.

"During an internal review, S.H.I.E.L.D. discovered a top-secret file. This file revealed that as early as World War II, after Captain Rogers crashed into the icy sea, he was secretly captured by a branch of Hydra and subjected to decades of brainwashing and modification."

"The so-called 'frozen' is just a lie to cover up the truth!"

A series of flawlessly forged documents and photos appeared on the screen. In the photos, Captain America was lying in a Hydra laboratory, his body covered in tubes.

"Nick Fury, the current director, is the mastermind behind all of this. He is a Hydra spy infiltrating the highest levels of S.H.I.E.L.D. He is the one who awakened 'Captain Hydra,' attempting to use him to overthrow world peace and seize power!"

"boom--!"

This news instantly ignited public opinion.

Is Captain America a Hydra?

This is even more absurd than the US president being a Red Square spy.

But the evidence... and the statements of the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and current Secretary-General of the Security Council, inevitably raise many doubts.

"Therefore," Pierce raised his voice, his expression righteous, "I, on behalf of the World Security Council, hereby formally issue a global arrest warrant!"

"Wanted: Steve Rogers! Wanted: Nick Fury!"

"They are extremely dangerous terrorists..."

"Snapped!"

Steve turned off the TV.

He felt no anger, only a deep weariness.

"Captain Hydra..." Steve smiled bitterly, "Pierce, you've really gone to great lengths to destroy me."

He's now public enemy number one, and coincidentally, there's nowhere to hide his face in America.

"Waaaaahh ...

A piercing alarm sounded outside the VGD base.

Steve walked to the window.

Outside the base gate, more than twenty black armored vehicles with flashing police lights were already parked.

That was S.H.I.E.L.D.'s rapid response special forces, and an FBI tactical team.

A Quinjet fighter jet was also buzzing in the air.

"Listen up, you inside! Get Hydra Captain Steve Rogers out here immediately with his hands raised!"

Rumlow stood on an armored vehicle, one hand around his neck and the other holding a megaphone, his face full of arrogance.

"If you don't hand over the person, Vought International will be suspected of harboring international terrorists, and we will forcibly enter the premises to search and arrest them!"

The moment he finished speaking, he was attacked by hail, hurricane, lightning, acid, and other colorful things, and was forced to run away with his head in his hands, retreating 200 meters away.

Steve watched all this and sighed.

He didn't want to involve Walter; this was his war with Hydra.

He then got up, straightened his uniform, picked up his shield, and walked towards the door.

"Where are you going, Captain?"

A voice called out to him.

Ashley stood calmly in the middle of the corridor.

"Mr. Rogers, have you forgotten that you are still the head instructor of VGD? Your employment contract has not expired, and leaving your post without authorization will incur a penalty."

"Ashley..." Steve smiled wryly, "This is no time for jokes. They say I'm Hydra, and the whole world is after me."

"So what?"

Ashley gave a cold laugh.

"They say you're Hydra, so you are? If they say I'm the Queen of England tomorrow, do I still have to go to Buckingham Palace to be crowned Queen?"

Steve frowned slightly. "But I can't drag you down with me."

"Damaged?"

Ashley smiled nonchalantly.

"Captain, do you have some misunderstanding about Walter?"

"We are Vought International, our market value now exceeds that of Boeing, and our boss is a Homelander who can rub aliens into a volcano."

"Do you think we'd be afraid of the trash outside?"

Ashley stepped forward and slapped a document she was holding onto Steve's chest.

"What is this?" Steve was stunned.

"A new contract," Ashley said. "And a letter Mr. Starr left for you before he left."

He said, "If you encounter a 'political crisis,' then sign this."

Steve was stunned.

What the people of the motherland left behind?

He opened the envelope.

Inside was only a thin sheet of paper with messy handwriting.

To the veteran who is still lost:

Hey, Steve.

When you read this letter, you've most likely been betrayed by that arrogant and mysterious organization.

I'm not surprised.

I've said it before, that place is rotten to the core and can't be fixed.

None of this matters.

The important thing is that I understand what you're thinking.

You think you're outdated, an antique from the last century, and that those principles and morals seem like a joke in this era.

But I'm telling you, that's bullshit.

The colors will fade, the flags will change, and even the number of stars on the Stars and Stripes will change.

But some things will never change.

Courage, sacrifice, and the courage to stand firm like a giant tree even when faced with injustice, even if the whole world tells you to step aside.

I've always said I'm not a real hero. Steve, you are.

What Walter needs is not a thug with a shield.

We need a soul.

A person who can tell those confused youngsters that power is not for showing off, but for protecting souls.

We don't need Captain America, we don't need Captain White House, and we certainly don't need Captain S.H.I.E.L.D.

What we need is... a captain for the people.

Steve signed that damn contract.

Fight alongside me! Veteran.

—Antonie Starr

Steve's hands were trembling.

Ever since he woke up in the Arctic Ocean, he had always been a stranger. S.H.I.E.L.D. was his job, the Avengers were his friends, but he had never truly felt a sense of belonging.

And now...

"He..." Steve's eyes welled up with tears. "He knew all along?"

“The boss always sees things from the front.” Ashley handed her a pen. “Sign it, Captain. Sign it, and you’ll be a registered superhero of VDG, protected by the Superhero Registration Act. Arresting you requires a presidential warrant, and President Ellis… is an old friend of ours.”

Steve took a deep breath.

He took the pen and solemnly signed his name at the end of the contract.

"very good."

Ashley put away the contract, a victorious smile spreading across her face.

She opened the makeup mirror to check her makeup, then turned and walked towards the door.

"Now, I'll go and get rid of those annoying flies outside."

"Then, I'll clear your name."
