Dark Wizard: Rise! My undead army!
Chapter 615 Taking Over as Chief
Cersei wasn't surprised; she seemed to have long understood Lynn's temperament.
This kid would rather avoid trouble than cause any, let alone be given so much responsibility and so many tasks.
"Who said the head tutor is going to lock you up in the academy?" Cersei said defiantly.
"You can leave whenever you want; the academy will only contact you when it needs you."
"What about mandatory missions?" Lynn asked.
"Wait until I'm exempt," Cersei said. "In addition, fifty thousand magic stones per month."
Lynn blinked and unconsciously sat up straighter.
You can earn 50,000 a month just by staying at the college?
That's a good price!
"As for not being able to teach students," Cersei glanced at him.
"You, a renowned 'problem solver,' still say you can't teach? If you're not qualified, then other instructors are even less qualified."
Lynn didn't respond immediately; he was indeed deep in thought.
The position of chief mentor is safe, lucrative, and you don't have to go to the front lines.
Compared to risking your life in the Abyss Battlefield or the Holy Light Battlefield, this job is far better.
Cersei continued, "Now that you are one of the strongest in the academy, the academy will arrange a position for you sooner or later."
"Being the chief of the Soul Department is a safe and lucrative position, coveted by many. Do you want that job, or would you rather be thrown into the dimensional battlefield as a vanguard?"
Lynn's lips twitched. Of course, he didn't want to go to the interdimensional battlefield to expand the academy's territory.
He longed to conquer the world freely and to rule it himself.
Lynn was still weighing the options in her mind and didn't rush to agree.
Cersei didn't rush him. Holding her wine glass, she said slowly, "Too much trouble, huh? Then let me do the math for you."
Lynn raised his head, making a gesture as if he were all ears.
"The chief mentor's laboratory can be moved to the middle level of the central spire of the Bone Spire."
"There is a special True Spirit level spirit gathering array there, with the most abundant elements, and you can use the high-level meditation room at any time."
"This is useful," Lynn nodded.
A True Spirit level Spirit Gathering Array is convenient for anything, whether it's personal cultivation, nurturing the dead, or crafting items, as long as there's enough energy.
"The access to the bone repository is also higher; it allows access to the fourth level of the restricted book area," Cersei continued.
"The forbidden book area for the soul system is only accessible to chief and deputy tower masters and above. You can look at the soul experiment notes and forbidden technique models inside."
Lynn's eyes brightened slightly.
He had long wanted to go into the forbidden section of the skeletal remains library and browse through it, but he had never had the necessary permissions.
There are quite a few there.
Cersei continued:
"There's also the academy's resource allocation. The Soul Department has an independent budget every year, and you'll be in charge of allocating magic stones, materials, and experimental subjects."
"As long as you don't go too far, the people below won't object, and as long as it doesn't get reported to the academy, no one will care how much you want to keep for yourself."
"This is good." Lynn smiled.
This budget is quite substantial, much higher than my "salary," and if managed well, I could earn a considerable amount in a year.
Seeing Lynn's smug look, Cersei naturally knew what he was thinking, but she didn't expose him.
As long as Lynn is willing to serve as the chief mentor, this sacrifice is nothing to the academy.
"During the interdimensional war, the chief mentor can decide whether or not to participate in the war. If the academy is besieged, your duty is to guard the central spire and you do not need to go out on field missions."
"Not going to the front lines?"
"No need." Cersei swirled her wine glass. "You're the face of the Soul faction; the academy won't use you to fill gaps in the battle lines."
Lynn nodded, feeling a little more at ease.
"There's one more thing," Cersei continued.
"The chief mentor can choose two deputies. The academy pays their salaries. If you don't want to teach students or handle matters that you don't want to deal with, you can delegate them. You only need to give them a few pointers occasionally."
"A leader and a deputy?" Lynn asked. "Are there ready-made candidates to choose from?"
Cersei smiled and said, "You'll have to choose for yourself. There are plenty of senior professors in the department who are willing to do it. If you have the title of chief professor, they won't necessarily give you face, but they can still get resources for themselves."
Upon hearing this, Lynn's worries largely dissipated.
What he used to hate most was teaching students and managing miscellaneous affairs, but now that he has a deputy to take care of things, he only needs to grasp the general direction.
Seeing his expression relax, Cersei added, "And this position has a hidden advantage."
"What?"
"identity!"
Cersei's expression was slightly formal.
"The chief mentor represents the face of the academy in any situation. If you go to other forces in the future, they will at least give you a formal position."
"In many personal disputes, the other party would not dare to act easily because of this identity."
"That's true." Lynn nodded.
A chief of the soul system is completely different from a lone wizard. If the other party wants to make a move, they have to weigh the attitude of the Bone Spire first.
If he had the identity of the chief soul leader of the Bone Spire, he would have been able to leverage the Bone Spire Academy's reputation and gain more attention during his last trip to "Earth Pulse".
Even if the college finds out, they won't say anything, since this position is already an important part of the college.
"Also, shops in Ghost Market get a 30% tax reduction," Cersei casually remarked.
Lynn was taken aback: "You have this too?"
"The academy pays low taxes on all of the chief mentor's properties," Cersei glanced at him.
"Otherwise, why do you think all those mentors are crowding into the market, each of them displaying their own titles?"
Lynn laughed for real this time.
He had just taken over Marfa's shop and was thinking about how to expand the business, and this saved him a lot of money.
"Master's wife, if you had said this earlier, I wouldn't have been frowning." Lynn put her wine glass on the table and tapped her fingers.
Cersei rolled her eyes at him: "If you had just said so earlier, would you have listened to me finish explaining my duties?"
"That's true." Lynn chuckled.
Cersei poured himself some more wine and said:
"Do you really think the academy is stupid? There are many benefits to being the chief mentor, but it's not free. If something goes wrong in the Soul Department, you'll be the first one held accountable."
Lynn nodded: "I understand."
"However, you have a natural advantage: you don't need to worry about not being able to control your subordinates."
"Your strength speaks for itself. You also killed Morpheus, the Soul Department Instructor, and Marfa, the Chief Soul Department Instructor. No matter how arrogant those old instructors in the department are, they won't dare to act recklessly in front of you."
"Are you saying, Master's wife, that I'm more suitable for this position than Marfa?" Lynn asked with a hint of teasing.
"Marfa is good at scheming, but not so good at fighting. You are good at fighting and can keep the situation under control."
"The Soul System is currently lacking someone who can keep things in check. Your presence alone is more effective than any set of rules."
Lynn paused for a moment, then finally nodded, making up her mind: "Okay, I'll take it."
Cersei smiled with satisfaction and gently pushed the wine glass towards him:
"It's settled then. I'll have someone prepare your new lab and send the key and access permissions over."
"Thank you, Master's wife." Lin En picked up his wine glass and drank the rest of the wine in one gulp.
