Dark Wizard: Rise! My undead army!
Chapter 628 The New Chief Soul Officer
Seeing that it was almost time, Cersei rose from the viewing platform and slowly walked up to the central platform.
She was wearing a dark purple formal robe today, exuding a very imposing aura, completely unlike her usual casual demeanor in front of Lynn.
After all, it represents the image of the academy, so it should be done in a grand manner when necessary.
She looked around, her voice carrying clearly throughout the entire plaza: "Everyone, today we gather at the Bone Plaza to witness the appointment of the new Chief of the Soul Department."
The square fell completely silent, with only the flames of the soul burning "whoosh" on the bone pillars.
Cersei continued, "The Soul System is one of the three main systems of the Bone Spire, and it has produced many talented individuals over the years."
"Former Chief Marfa has been dealt with according to the academy's rules for colluding with the enemy, betraying the academy, and murdering fellow disciples."
She paused, her voice becoming more serious:
"Lynn's heroic act of turning the tide against the rebels and upholding the academy's dignity is evident to all. Following a resolution passed by the Vice Tower Masters' Council, Lynn is hereby appointed as the Chief Instructor of the Soul Department!"
A murmur arose from the audience, but it quickly subsided.
"Now, please welcome Lynn to the stage," Sersi said.
Lynn stood up from the viewing platform and walked step by step toward the high platform under the watchful eyes of the crowd.
His steps were slow, but his aura was extraordinary; every step seemed to tread on everyone's hearts.
Lynn stood on the high platform, side by side with Cersei.
Cersei stepped aside and announced loudly, "This is none other than Lynn, the new head of the Soul Department at the Bone Spire!"
Her voice was amplified by witchcraft, sweeping across the entire square like an invisible ripple.
As soon as he finished speaking, the soul flames on the bone pillars jumped up in unison, and the ghostly blue light suddenly shot up half a foot.
Lynn stepped forward and slowly nodded to his surroundings.
His gaze swept across the square, over the formal wizards with faces full of awe, and over the apprentices huddled in the corners in the distance, peeking out.
The entire venue was so quiet that only the whooshing sound of burning soul flames could be heard.
Then, sounds came from all directions.
"This is the Lord of All Things? Such a heavy spiritual stance," an old wizard standing in the middle of the square said solemnly.
"Indeed, I heard he single-handedly killed Marfa and repelled the Chaos Egg. He must be no ordinary person."
The wizard next to him chimed in, "The academy is serious this time. With him as the chief, those in the soul department are probably in for a rough time."
"What do you know? With such a powerful figure in charge, no one in the Soul System dares to mess with you."
Outside the square, the apprentices were crowded together, with those in front being pushed forward by those behind.
Several soul hunters stood across the intersection, coldly watching them, preventing the crowd from rushing in.
"See that one? The one in the dark purple robe!"
"Don't push! I want to see too!"
"He's so young, he doesn't look much worse than us."
"Nonsense, he was an apprentice only a little over a decade ago, he started learning later than me, and now he's the chief. How can you compare?"
A young female apprentice stared wide-eyed, grabbing her companion's arm and shaking it vigorously: "He was looking this way! He was looking this way!"
"Stop swooning." Her companion shook off her hand. "You're lucky if you even glance at someone so important."
"I'm not being a fangirl, I just think he's too strong," the female apprentice said with admiration. "From ordinary apprentice to chief apprentice, it's only been a short time."
The apprentice beside him nodded and sighed inwardly.
Yes, but you only saw the glamorous surface, not the mountains of corpses and seas of blood behind it.
Of his fellow apprentices from the same cohort, how many are still alive today?
Despite the constant chatter around him, Lynn remained silent, only nodding once more to the audience.
Cersei raised her hand to quell the noise from the audience.
She walked up to Lynn and took the folded robe from one of the Soul Hunters behind her.
"This is the exclusive robe of the chief mage of the Soul Department," Cersei said.
It was a silver-white wizard's robe, its surface embroidered with intricate incantations using soul threads, with faint specks of soul light flowing within.
As she spoke, Sersi draped the robe over Lynn's shoulders, and the wizard's robe automatically shrunk to the most suitable size.
Then, Cersei took out another item.
It was a ring made of white bones and silver threads intertwined, with a rhombus-shaped soul crystal embedded in the ring face.
"This is the chief's seal, which can be used to sign internal documents and also grants permission to mobilize some of the soul system's resources," Cersei said.
Lynn took the ring and slipped it onto the index finger of her left hand.
The moment the Soul Crystal touched his spiritual power, a blue light flashed across its surface, completing the binding.
Cersei then handed him a scroll: "This is the roster of the Soul Department's mentors and deacons. You can handle all matters, big and small, within the department."
Just as Lynn finished packing up the reel, he saw Cersei wave her hand.
On the side of the square, a group of wizards lined up and walked forward one by one; they were the various mentors and deacons of the Soul Department.
"Soul Master Belloc greets Your Excellency."
"Soul Master Kevin greets Your Excellency."
"Selvin, the Soul-type Butler, congratulations, sir."
"Ferrari, the soul-type butler, is ready to serve you, sir."
...
One by one, in perfect order.
Lynn nodded in return, a perfectly timed smile on her face.
Among the group of people, Lynn suddenly spotted a familiar figure.
Alphonse was standing at the back of the line, looking up at him.
Their eyes met briefly in mid-air.
Lynn didn't say much, only nodded slightly at him.
Now is not the time for reminiscing. With countless eyes watching, Lynn did not want to bring their personal relationship into the open in this setting.
Alphonse nodded slightly, his expression complex as he faced Lynn, who was the center of attention.
Then he lowered his head and followed the crowd back to the stands.
After the formalities concluded, Cersei stepped forward again and announced, "The appointment ceremony for the new Chief of the Soul Department is complete!"
In the center of the square, a quick-witted wizard shouted first: "Congratulations to Lord Lynn on becoming the chief! May your wizarding arts flourish and may truth endure forever!"
As soon as he took the lead, the other wizards and apprentices immediately followed suit and shouted.
Congratulations, Lord Lynn!
"May your shamanistic practices prosper!"
"Truth endures!!"
The sound spread from the center of the square outwards, carrying further and further like rolling thunder.
Even the apprentices outside the square were shouting at the top of their lungs; some shouted so hard that their voices cracked.
Lynn stood on the high platform, surrounded by his own name and congratulations.
He faced the crowd with a calm expression, but his heart was filled with countless emotions.
He recalled when he first entered the academy, he was just a clueless apprentice.
Standing at the bow of the ship, gazing at the dark purple sky of the Eternal Night Graveyard, I felt a deep sense of unease.
Back then, he didn't even dare to look a formal wizard in the eye, and he could make an ordinary apprentice-level deacon bow down.
The way Professor Morris stood on the ship made him look like an unapproachable, important figure.
He then walked forward step by step.
Enter the Forest of Ten Thousand Bones, descend into the Eternal Tomb, and plunge into the Abyss of Rot, to comprehend the rules of the main world.
More and more blood stained his hands, and more and more ghosts appeared behind him.
He recalled the first time he stood on the Bone Square, when he was just a novice apprentice, only able to stand at the very edge of the crowd, tiptoeing to watch the people on the platform.
Now, he stands in the center of the high platform, a "big shot" in the academy, with everyone below looking up at him.
"It's like a fucking dream," Lynn cursed inwardly, but his face remained impassive.
