Dark Wizard: Rise! My undead army!
Chapter 646 Death Threat
A few days later, Lynn forged a small magical artifact.
It was a thin silver-gray chain with a gray bead the size of a fingernail hanging from it.
"Put it on." Lynn handed the artifact to Lin Chen. "It can conceal the abnormality on your body, and the horns on your head and your eyes will return to normal."
Lin Chen took it and examined it carefully.
The bead was engraved with a ring of extremely fine runes, which were not even shiny and looked very ordinary.
"Will this turn me into an ordinary person?" Lin Chen asked.
"It will only work if you infuse it with your spiritual energy," Lynn said.
Lin Chen hung the witch artifact around his neck and infused it with a trace of spiritual power.
A faint light flashed across the surface of the bead, and a thin, ethereal shadow fell from above his head, covering his horns.
His eyes had also turned into a normal dark brown, making him look no different from other children on the street.
"Oh dear, I've become ugly." Lin Chen looked at his reflection in the water tank, somewhat displeased.
"Safety is important. You don't want to be cooped up in the family home all day and unable to go out and meet people, do you?" Lynn said.
"I know, Dad." Lin Chen replied verbally, but couldn't help but look at himself again.
Even without his horns and starry eyes, he still had that handsome face; he wasn't ugly, just lacking something special.
But this regret was quickly dispelled by a sense of excitement.
Does Father mean... I can go out now?!
Lin Yao perked up immediately when she learned that her brother could go out.
She's four and a half years old, just up to Lin Chen's waist, and she tugs at his clothes every day, calling out:
"Brother, take me out! I want to go out and play!"
Lin Chen himself wanted to go out; he had never properly explored Graystone City in his entire life.
Spending all his time in the clan's territory, practicing swordsmanship and meditating, he was itching to get back to his studies.
"Dad, can I take Yao Yao to the city for a stroll?" Lin Chen asked Lin En, his eyes shining.
Lynn glanced at the two of them and said, "You can go, but you're not allowed to leave the city, don't cause trouble, and come back before dark."
"Okay!" Lin Chen agreed quickly.
Lynn added, "I'll have someone follow you."
"Just don't get too close," Lin Chen said.
"You're still negotiating." Lynn lightly patted the back of his head.
Lin Chen chuckled and pulled Lin Yao outside.
Lynn watched the two children's retreating figures and made a gesture towards the shadows.
Iron Fang followed silently, protecting the two children like a shadow.
The main street of Greystone City is bustling.
There were stalls selling sugar figurines, baked cakes, and general merchandise, one after another.
Lin Chen held Lin Yao's hand and weaved through the crowd. The two little ones were so good-looking that they attracted everyone's attention wherever they went.
Despite their unassuming location and low-key demeanor, the Gray Feather Clan is undoubtedly the dominant force in Graystone City.
Lynn is the pinnacle of combat power in the city. In a city where there are hardly any wizard apprentices, he is like a behemoth!
The two little ones never left the house before, so no one knew their identities; they were simply considered an extremely cute couple.
"Brother, what's that sparkly thing?" Lin Yao asked, pointing to a crystal ornament hanging at the entrance of a shop.
"That's fluorescent stone; it glows at night," Lin Chen said.
"I want it!" Lin Yao's eyes widened.
Lin Chen took out a few copper coins and bought two small ones.
Lin Yao held it in her hands, smiling as if she had received some precious treasure.
The two ate and looked around as they went, exploring most of the street.
Lin Chen suddenly saw a crowd gathered in front of a shop ahead, making a lot of noise and creating a lively atmosphere.
He looked up and saw the sign read: Grey Feather Pharmacy.
"This is our shop," Lin Chen said.
"Let's go take a look!" Lin Yao pulled him into the crowd.
The two children squeezed through the adults' legs to the front to see what had happened.
A group of adventurers blocked the shop entrance. On the ground was a stretcher with a emaciated man lying on it, his face ashen and already dead.
The burly man at the head of the group was shouting loudly:
"Look everyone! This is the medicine sold at Grayfeather Pharmacy! My brother drank it and died within half an hour! If you don't give me an explanation today, I'm smashing this lousy shop to pieces!"
The shopkeeper was a middle-aged man, and also a member of a collateral branch of the Gray Feather family.
He was sweating profusely with anxiety and wanted to go forward to examine the body, but the big man pushed him away.
"Don't touch my brother! Are you trying to cover your tracks?" the big man roared.
"You won't even let me inspect it, so how can you prove he died from drinking our medicine?" The shopkeeper's face turned pale, but he still forced himself to speak.
"The man is dead! What proof do you need!" The burly man waved his hand, and a dozen adventurers behind him took a step forward.
Before long, a squad of city guards arrived.
The leader recognized the shop and knew it belonged to the Gray Feather family, so he immediately wanted to drive the people away.
"Disperse! You dare cause trouble in Graystone City? Don't you want to live?" the commander shouted.
But those adventurers were quite strong.
The burly man at the head of the group released his aura, revealing himself to be an Earth Knight. Behind him were several mages and warriors.
"The city guards want to protect this shady business?" the burly man sneered. "Are you just going to let my brother's life go like this?"
The commander's face turned ugly, and he tried to step forward, but the big man had already kicked him.
This kick, imbued with fighting spirit, sent the commander flying, knocking over several vendor stalls.
"Smash it!" the big man shouted.
This group of people were clearly here specifically to cause trouble. I don't know what kind of confidence they had that they dared to hit even the city guards!
The adventurers stormed into the shop, overturning the counter and shattering potion bottles all over the floor.
The shopkeeper tried to stop him, but a burly man grabbed him by the neck and lifted him up.
The burly man raised his hand to deliver a punch.
The shopkeeper was just an ordinary person; if that punch landed, he'd probably lose half his life.
Just at the critical moment, a golden sword light shot out from the crowd, heading straight for the big man's back.
The big man reacted very quickly, dodging to the side and looking back.
Lin Chen was standing on the steps of the shop, holding a city guard's standard longsword that he had picked up from the ground.
Golden solar-shaped battle aura had already risen from the sword, making it look extremely extraordinary.
"Where did this brat come from? Get the hell away from me!" The big man didn't take him seriously.
Lin Chen didn't say anything, but pushed off with his feet and rushed forward.
He was short in stature, but his sword was extremely fast.
The golden battle aura, like a fiery serpent, lunged towards the burly man's waist.
The burly man's eyes narrowed.
This brat actually has the strength of a Great Knight, and his breathing technique is clearly extraordinary!
He abandoned his contempt, drew the greatsword from his back, and engaged Lin Chen in combat.
A great knight? Too bad he's run into me, the earth knight!
Lin Chen launched several attacks, but the big man deflected them all with the back of his sword. The big man was so strong that each strike made Lin Chen's hands go numb.
His combat experience was far inferior to that of the seasoned Han general, and he quickly found himself at a disadvantage.
"Little guy, instead of staying home to nurse, you're out here trying to be a hero?" the burly man mocked, his sword growing heavier with each strike.
Lin Chen gritted his teeth and persevered, but his swordplay became increasingly chaotic.
The burly man seized the opening and slashed at Lin Chen's sword. Lin Chen felt a sharp pain in his wrist, and the sword almost slipped from his hand.
"Little brat, I might not be your match after a few more years of training, but unfortunately you had to meddle in my business today."
The burly man grinned maliciously, raising his greatsword high, from which black battle aura surged.
"Die!" The burly man swung his sword down.
A look of despair flashed in Lin Chen's eyes.
I never imagined that my first time going out would result in my immediate death!
Before he died, he seemed to hear his sister's scream.
