Chapter 71 October Arrives (Seeking First Subscription)

Looking at Don Quixote, who was swaying and almost fell apart from his armor, Livy sighed.

"My friend..." Don Quixote leaned against the wall of the corridor, his metal gauntlets scraping against it with a grating sound. "That damned witch! She cast a wicked spell on me! My stomach feels like it's churning with fire—ugh—I feel like I'm about to vomit!"

You have received a quest: Dispel the curse.

The news of Don Quixote's defeat of the Dark Elf King caught the attention of a witch. The witch's curse left him weak, dizzy, and nauseous, and she sought a way to help the knight Don Quixote break free of the curse.

Dispel the curse.

Li Wei pondered for a moment. In China, people usually just had to vomit it up. Although he didn't know the rules in America, he figured the principle should be similar.

He easily lifted the fully armed Don Quixote with one hand and dragged him into the bathroom.

The motion-sensor lights in the bathroom were dim, and the mold in the grout between the tiles emitted a strange damp smell under the moonlight.

"This is... a temple?" Don Quixote knelt heavily, gripping the edge of the toilet, his armor striking the tiles with a crisp sound.

"That's right, this is the altar of the sacred spring."

Li Wei pointed solemnly at the clear (relatively speaking) pale yellow water in the toilet. "Don Quixote, the witch's spell can only be broken through a violent banishment. You need to vomit the evil from your stomach in front of the altar."

Don Quixote gagged twice, but it still didn't have much effect.

Li Wei thought for a moment, looked at his palm, and then gently pressed on Don Quixote's stomach.

Don Quixote was almost jolted awake from his sleepwalking state, his eyeballs nearly bursting out of his eyelids.

"vomit"

He didn't even have time to react. His fragile stomach and intestines collapsed instantly under the external stimulation, and he vomited violently while clinging to the toilet.

After a long while, Don Quixote weakly raised his head. "I feel... the evil has been expelled, but my soul... is so thirsty."

He paused with his eyes closed, then said, "I need to drink a sip of holy spring water."

Then he scooped up a handful of toilet water with his metal gauntlet and was about to drink it.

I grass!

Li Wei reacted quickly and immediately grabbed his hand.

"Let's have some mineral water," Li Wei said, taking advantage of Don Quixote's slumped posture. He unscrewed a bottle of mineral water from the kitchen and brought it over. "Drink some of this; it's from the Holy Spring."

"I feel...much better."

After finishing his drink, Don Quixote collapsed and began snoring loudly.

Livy removed Don Quixote's armor and dragged him back to the sofa.

I wonder if he'll remember this after he gets up...

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the dusty window and shone on Don Quixote's face.

He sat up abruptly, letting out a groan.

A hangover headache feels like a lumberjack is chopping at the top of his head with an axe.

"Awake?" Li Wei was sitting leisurely at the dining table, shaking his protein shake. "I made you breakfast, it's on the table."

"Cough cough..." Don Quixote's voice was hoarse, his brows furrowed in a frown. "I blacked out yesterday? I don't remember anything at all?"

"Yes, you threw up yesterday," he said. "You almost drank toilet water too."

"Really?" Don Quixote rubbed his temples suspiciously. "But I don't remember anything at all."

After washing up in the bathroom, he came out shaving.

"I'll be very busy for the next two weeks," he said, back to normal as he left. "I plan to renovate in October and raise the rent, or start looking for tenants again. That way, my 10% stake will bring me more than $1500 in net profit every month."

"Not bad," Li Wei said with a smile as he downed the protein shake in one gulp. "I'm going to become a rich person with a stable income."

"This is nothing," Don Quixote waved his hand, "we have a lot more to do."

Under the bright sunshine, Li Wei and Don Quixote dressed and went their separate ways.

Over the next two weeks, Don Quixote displayed unprecedented enthusiasm and passion.

He seemed like a different person, spending his days moving between that dilapidated building in the Bronx, personally overseeing the repair of the water pipes with Jose and a few familiar undocumented immigrant workers.

After being cursed by the witch, Don Quixote seemed to be severely weakened. After saying that he needed to rest for a while during a sleepwalking episode, he fell into silence once again.

Meanwhile, Li Wei's identity issue was finally resolved a little over a month after he arrived in America.

With the principal's help, his visa was successfully transitioned to a one-year F-1 student visa.

Although the green card process will require a longer waiting period and review, it at least means that he can stay here for a long time, legally and openly.

In late September, the wind in New York was starting to get chilly, and the sea breeze blowing from Bay Ridge was getting colder day by day, but the PSAL (Public School Athletic League) football team was burning hot.

4 wins!

Li Wei only needed to make a slight move to exceed his opponent's limit.

He had these high school kids completely under his thumb, leading Franklin K. Lane High School into the playoffs ahead of schedule.

When the final whistle blew to end the last regular season game, a sparse chorus of applause rang out from the stands.

"Genius, genius! Perfect game reading ability! Unbeatable stamina! Sharp mind!" Wen Si was the first to flatter Li Wei, "Li Wei, you should go play in the NFL."

"Four more years, right?" Li Wei smiled, took the water he was offered, unscrewed the cap, and took a sip. "I need to join the NCAA first."

.

"That's not necessarily true," Wen Si said mysteriously. "Let me tell you—"

'

"Hey! Levi!" Travis ran over at the most inopportune moment. "Beautiful long pass!"

"You caught it well... Oh, by the way," Levi pulled him in front of Vince, "Travis, the running back I mentioned to you before."

Travis shrank back somewhat awkwardly, then puffed out his chest as if remembering something. Having grown up in this kind of place, he instinctively felt a little intimidated by Wensi's suit and tie.

"And Craig... come here!" He called over Craig, the black quarterback who had just returned from injury. "If he hadn't gotten injured, I wouldn't have been able to start."

"Don't say that, buddy," Craig said, genuinely ashamed. "I played terribly. Even if I hadn't gotten injured, I still couldn't beat Tottenville High School."

Li Wei ignored his words. He put his arms around the two men's shoulders and looked at Wen Si: "Mr. Wen Si, I think these two players are very talented. Could you consider them and take a look at their game footage?"

Wen Si glanced at Travis, who looked silly, and Craig, the shy-looking black man.

"Okay," he smiled, "I'll ask Coach Miller for the videotape later."

Travis and Craig were overjoyed.

Even someone as slow-witted as Travis knows what it means for a seasoned scout to be willing to seriously review their game footage.

"Hey buddy," Craig hugged Levi tightly, "thank you, really, thank you."

"Alright, gentlemen," Wen Si put his arm around Li Wei's shoulder, "let me speak with Mr. Li Wei alone for a bit longer."

The two walked to a secluded corner, and scout Arthur Vince glanced at Travis and Craig, who kept turning back to look at each other.

"What do you want me to do for you?" he asked directly. "There's a lot I can do, but I want to get in sync with you first."

He held up three fingers: "1. You want them to get the same treatment as you. 2. You want me to send them to their desired schools. 3. I just want to give them a chance, a place to study, and a scholarship to receive."

"Each of these three conditions requires different resources," he said. "Some things are very difficult, and I may not be able to do them."

"I understand," Li Wei said. "Well... I'll choose number 3. My relationship with them is not bad, but not that good. I'll just lend a hand."

Travis and Craig each have their own difficulties. Levi would like to help them, but there's no need to exhaust Wensi's connections and resources for it.

"That's good," Wen Si breathed a sigh of relief. "I thought you two had a good relationship and wanted me to get them into D1 or G5 level schools."

"To be honest," he said, "they have talent, but it's just average. They might seem good in high school, but if you force them to follow your lead, it will only be a thankless task. You might even take them to a world that doesn't belong to them, and they won't be able to accept it and will resent you."

Li Wei nodded: "I understand, so I just want them to be able to get scholarships to go to university, that's all I can do."

"Understood," Wen Si said, pulling out a notebook and writing the matter down. "Oh, right, what was I going to tell you again—oh right!"

He looked around, leaned closer and whispered, "You've really had the best luck lately. You've got everything going for you. You've really run into Lady Luck's bottom."

Li Wei was taken aback and asked, "What happened that I happened to be in?"

"Looking at the situation in the year-end election, anyone with a discerning eye can see that the Democratic Party is going to come to power this time, due to its diversity..."

LGBT, IQ, CAP, GNF, NBA, and other related themes are poised for another surge in popularity.

Without a single stumble, Wen Si rattled off a string of rapid-fire phrases, "To cater to the new president's rise to power, and because New York is a blue state, plus!" he emphasized, "the New York Giants have been declining for over a decade, and you!" He pointed at Levi, "are another Asian-American with unparalleled talent! So your good days are about to begin!"

"I don't understand a single one of those long strings of abbreviations," Li Wei said calmly. "So what good days are coming for me?"

"Would you like to skip the NCAA?" Scout Arthur Vince took a deep breath. "Go straight to the NFL? Enter the NFL draft next March."

Li Wei paused for a moment before cautiously speaking.

"The NFL has age requirements," he said. "You have to have graduated high school at least three years ago, so even if I wanted to participate, I couldn't."

'

"Never mind that," Wen Si interrupted him impatiently. "I just want to ask you one question: do you want to participate?"

"Yes!" Li Wei said firmly, "Of course I want to!"

"Great!" Wen Si patted his shoulder hard, then pulled his hand back with a grimacing expression. "Then when you go to training camp next week, go straight for the top pick and 5-star player certification. Show some dominance. I have confidence in you."

"And then?" Li Wei was taken aback. "You mean the owner of the New York Giants will come to see me, and then, if he thinks I'm a good fit, he'll push me onto the stage and help me get rid of the age-related clause?"

"It's not settled," Wen Si waved her hand, "it's a special regulation, only for you."

"I'm not entirely clear on how this works either. I just submitted your materials," he added. "I have high hopes for you. Keep it up, kid."

Even after he got home, Li Wei was still a little dazed.

That evening, he told Don Quixote about it.

Don Quixote, however, was quite optimistic about the matter.

“Since your doctor has told you you’re ready,” he said, “and your scouts think so too, you should trust the opinions of professionals, not me, a layman. This is an overreach of knowledge, because my understanding of football is limited to the basic rules.”

"Besides, this matter is still not settled, isn't it?" he added. "Go to the training camp first. Even if this matter doesn't work out, it won't affect your subsequent plans."

"Anyway, I've got your back," he said optimistically. "You can't lose either way."

"Yeah, right," Li Wei threw himself into the sofa. "I'll pass the training camp test this weekend first."

To get the equipment, you need to participate in the All-American Bowl. To participate in the All-American Bowl, you need to become a 5-star player. To become a 5-star player, you need to pass the training camp certification and become the MVP.

He's ready to wreak havoc on everyone.

The New York leg of the 247SPorts Elite Training Camp was held at the training facility next to the Metropolitan Life Stadium.

This place is not only the cradle of the New York Giants and Jets, but also the ladder of advancement that countless high school students dream of.

Accompanied by Coach Miller, scout Wen Si, and others, Li Wei arrived at the training camp at 7:00 AM to register and have his height and weight measured.

He glanced around at the high school students from the New York area who had come to attend the training camp.

Yeah, I've destroyed at least half of them myself.

"How's it going?" Coach Miller asked in a low voice, "Are you confident?"

"Hmm..." Li Wei looked around. "I'm not targeting anyone on purpose. I just want to say that everyone here is..."
