Magicians never make wishes
Chapter 2: Say Less Things That Are Detrimental to Unity
"Please have Captain Dunshan wait a moment, I need to wrap up my magic experiment."
Ronan's tone was calm, yet it left no room for argument.
After the maid left, he recalled the way his teammates had been looking at him recently, realizing they must have become suspicious of him.
It's even quite possible that Hawkeye was behind it all.
After a moment of contemplation, he finally made up his mind.
"I hope to extract all the magical knowledge from my memory immediately."
As soon as he finished speaking, Ronan suddenly felt dizzy, and a book inexplicably appeared in his mind.
"Acquisition of the Mage class, advanced applications of mental power, twenty-four enhancement schemes for healing spells, optimization of the Mage's Hand spell configuration..."
All the magical knowledge in my memory was systematically organized and summarized, and materialized into a book of magical knowledge.
At the same time, all of the original owner's other memories unrelated to magic disappeared.
This was the first time Ronan had encountered such a situation, and he felt a little apprehensive.
But thinking about the possibility of facing his teammates' probing again, he could only carefully choose his words and grit his teeth to make another wish:
"I hope to immediately master the most familiar spell from my memory, at the cost of 5 points of willpower."
[Your wish has come true!]
[Wish Power Reserves -5]
In my mind, a glowing structure appeared next to the book of magical knowledge, orbiting the book in a circular motion.
With a thought, the book immediately unfolds automatically, and relevant knowledge floods into my mind.
The structure is called a magical configuration; as long as mental energy is injected into it, the corresponding magic can be cast.
Feeling his abundant spiritual power and the magical constructs that could be triggered at any time... Ronan finally felt a sense of security.
At this moment, the atmosphere around the central campfire was somewhat oppressive.
A dwarf with a full beard and only half the height of an adult, planted the two short axes he was holding upside down in the ground and said in a resentful tone,
"Captain, if you ask me, we shouldn't have chased those goblins."
The orc captain he mentioned, "Shield Mountain," was silently wiping a large iron shield. The flickering firelight illuminated his face, making his expression appear uncertain.
"We should have chosen the other group of kobolds," the dwarf complained. "Otherwise, Wolf Fang wouldn't have..."
"Evil Axe, I have to remind you, kobolds are much harder to deal with than goblins," Hawkeye interrupted him.
"Shut up! You filthy sprite!"
The wicked axe casually grabbed a short axe, pointing it directly at the gray elf opposite him, his eyes fierce.
"If it weren't for the incorrect information you gave us, why would we have recklessly charged into the goblin's lair?!"
"A goblin lair in the outer area can only house a maximum of four goblins. The usual procedure is to kill three, release one, find the lair, and then loot its contents..."
"Who knew you'd stumbled into a goblin's lair!" Hawkeye looked completely innocent.
What does this have to do with me, who's guarding the camp?
It's obvious that either the goblins are the problem or the teammates are the problem!
"Also, I am a grey elf, and I have no relation to the elves, your sworn enemies, the dwarves."
Although the Grey Elves have "elf" in their name, they are actually another race that has undergone a mutation and now resembles elves in appearance.
Of course, this doesn't prevent the evil axe from treating everyone equally.
"This time it's my fault."
After wiping the large shield, Dunshan took on the responsibility alone, saying, "As a shield guard, I should be the first to enter the cave to minimize losses."
"Captain, don't say that, I was too hasty..."
A human man lay on the ground, his body wrapped in bandages, speaking in a barely audible voice.
"Honestly, the captain hesitated for a second, and you just rushed in... Rushing in is one thing, but didn't you even glance at who was standing next to the treasure chest...?"
"You scoundrel! Stop making sarcastic remarks now..."
"You filthy spirit! You are the culprit!"
"What a pity, it was just a little short. If we had had one more teammate, we might have had a chance..." Wolf Fang sighed, feeling extremely unwilling.
Upon hearing this, the dwarves and grey elves shook their heads and sighed.
"Yeah, if we can keep the goblin under control for a while longer, the treasure chests ahead will be ours..."
"The temporary camp cannot be left unattended, especially since the employer is also there."
Why would it take two professionals to guard a camp?
"The mage is injured and cannot fight for the time being," Captain Dunshan explained.
"Dunshan, ever since the mage was injured, the fluctuations of his spiritual energy have disappeared... Don't you find that strange?"
Through constant surveillance, Hawkeye had indeed noticed Ronan's cover-up long ago.
"What's so strange about that?" a voice came from the darkness.
Everyone looked in the direction of the sound.
A handsome young man dressed in a white magic robe with gold trim chose the brightest spot and sat down calmly.
With a smile on his face, he quickly scanned his teammates by the firelight.
Orc Captain Shield Mountain, Dwarf Evil Axe, and Wolf Fang, also human.
as well as……
His gaze fell on a elven-looking man who was eyeing him sideways.
"Do you want to participate in my magical experiments, or are you simply annoyed by me? Doflamingo," Ronan asked menacingly, addressing the other man by his full name without any politeness.
Hawkeye's expression froze instantly, and his hand unconsciously reached for the weapon on his back.
For adventurers to address each other by their full names is considered extremely unfriendly unless they have a very close relationship.
"Hmph, what a load of bull—a magic experiment!" He sneered, looking Ronan up and down. "You think you can do that?"
"Looks like you know more about magic than I do..." Ronan shrugged and mocked.
His right hand, hidden inside his magic robe, concealed his slightly trembling index finger, as he continued his provocation.
"Why don't you try it yourself?"
Ronan was prepared to retaliate with all his might as soon as the other party made the first move.
Now there's no need to worry about how to kill him. With the new magic he's mastered, he can rightfully eliminate this gray elf who's been stalking him all day with just one strike.
"Alright, enough of what's detrimental to unity."
Seeing that the situation was getting out of control, Dunshan immediately spoke up to stop it.
"Although the mage hasn't been with the team for long, he's still part of the group. If any problems arise, everyone should help as much as they can."
Dunshan seemed completely unconcerned about the situation mentioned by Hawkeye.
He turned to look at Ronan and said gently.
"Wolf Fang is seriously injured. We'll need your help for the rest of the journey. Is that alright?"
His attitude was like a gentle breeze, but when you consider the actual situation, you'll find that his words were unusually cold-blooded.
They had just said they would help each other in times of trouble, but the next second they were asking to go to the battlefield.
It appears to be a question, but it is actually a strong demand.
"They're trying to use me as cannon fodder..."
Ronan had some doubts.
Given the nature of you guys, shouldn't Wolf Fang have "accidentally" died in the goblin's lair? How did he manage to come back intact?
He glanced sideways at the wolf fangs on the ground, then put himself in their shoes.
If I ended up like that, would my teammates bandage me up and carry me back?
The answer is obviously no.
If he really encounters this situation, he'll probably let loose and make all sorts of wishes.
Although Wolf Fang was seriously injured, he kept one hand inside his pouch, as if he was holding onto something.
Seeing this, Ronan guessed that this might be the key to Wolf Fang being saved.
There's no guarantee that there won't be some kind of suicidal scheme involved.
Ronan wondered if he should take some time to visit Wolf Fang, who was also human, and learn a few countermeasures.
But at that moment, his thoughts were interrupted by a dull whistling sound.
A huge rock covered in fresh soil ripped through the night sky and crashed into the campfire around which the group sat.
Dunshan reacted quickly, wielding his large iron shield horizontally and unleashing a powerful shockwave towards the ground.
The crowd was thrown back by the impact, barely managing to avoid the boulder falling from the sky.
"Enemy attack!"
