Chapter 30 Snape's Targeting, An Inspiring Victory!
In February, Hogwarts was hit by a rare blizzard.
The lake surrounding the castle was covered with a thick layer of ice, and even the willow trees were bent over by the weight of the snow.
At six in the morning, the sky was still dark. By the Black Lake, a lone figure was trudging through knee-deep snow.
Wearing a long robe, Lowe sank deep into the snow with each step, then struggled to pull himself out. His breath condensed into white mist in the cold air, and tiny ice crystals clung to his eyelashes.
"Keep warm...don't stop!" Lowe gritted his teeth, feeling the soreness in his calf muscles. "If I collapse here, I'll be buried by the snow and won't be discovered until spring when the ice thaws, just like those unlucky guys who collapsed at the foot of Redhorn Peak."
Just then, a figure appeared ahead, also struggling in the snow.
That was Oliver Wood, the Quidditch captain of Gryffindor. He looked like a snowman and was carrying a flying broomstick.
The two met in the snow. Wood paused for a moment, then showed an expression of admiration.
"Hey, Rowe!" Wood shouted, his voice slightly erratic in the snow. "You're out for a morning workout too? I knew you had a Quidditch heart! This kind of weather's perfect for building willpower, right?"
He mentally gave Rowe a thumbs up: Although he was a Hufflepuff, his love for sports was even more Gryffindor-like than that of a Gryffindor!
Luo Wei stopped and glanced warily at the vast white wasteland around him, then nodded solemnly.
"You're right, Wood," Rowe's voice was low and hoarse. "To avoid freezing to death while crossing the snow-capped mountains, we must acclimatize our bodies to this harshness. Only the strongest warriors will survive to see the White Tower of Gondor."
Wood: "...Huh? Gondor? Is that a team's home stadium?"
Before Wood could figure it out, Rowe had already started running again, heading deeper into the snowstorm.
...
Two hours later, in the Hufflepuff common room.
The atmosphere here is completely different from the icy, snowy landscape outside. The round room is filled with warm, orange firelight, and the aroma of toasted bread, hot chocolate, and currant jam is intoxicating.
This is the place in Hogwarts that most resembles the "Shire".
The students sat in small groups around the fireplace, enjoying the lazy weekend. Justin Finley was discussing the latest Chocolate Frog picture with Ernie McMillan, while Hannah Abbott was braiding Susan's hair.
Lowe sat in the armchair closest to the stove, a frying pan resting on his lap. He was carefully wiping the bottom of the pan with a piece of deerskin.
"Love, are you really not going to go to the medical wing?" Susan asked worriedly, looking at Love's red ears. "Your hands are frozen."
"It's just physical pain, Susan."
"Compared to being swallowed up by that blizzard, this frostbite is nothing."
"Where did you go?" Hannah asked curiously. "Wood said you ran ten miles in the snow."
"I'm patrolling the border," Rowe said casually, hanging his gleaming frying pan back on his belt. "At this time when darkness is drawing ever closer, someone has to stay alert."
Just then, the door to the lounge was pushed open, and Cedric Diggory walked in, bringing with him a chill. His expression was not good.
"Bad news, guys." Cedric shook the snowflakes off his cloak. "Snape is the referee for today's Quidditch match."
The lounge erupted in chaos.
"Snape?"
"Gryffindor is doomed to lose!"
"He'll definitely find an excuse to send Harry off!"
Luo Wei paused for a moment. His pupils contracted slightly, and the system interface on his retina refreshed instantly.
[Warning! Enemy units have been deployed.]
[Company Name: Severus Snape]
Threat Level: High.
"I knew it."
"That black-robed wizard... he finally couldn't resist getting involved himself."
Susan looked at Rowe with some unease: "Rowe, you're not going to do anything stupid, are you? Like running onto the court with a frying pan?"
Lowe turned his head and looked into Susan's worried eyes. He took a deep breath, trying to make his expression look less ferocious.
"Don't worry, Susan." He gave a forced smile. "If that black-robed wizard dares to lay a hand on Harry, my frying pan will speak for justice. But for now, all we have to do is witness."
...
Quidditch pitch.
Although the snowstorm had stopped, the cold wind was still biting. The stands were packed with students wrapped in thick scarves.
Rowe stood in the stands of Hufflepuff, gazing down below.
Snape, dressed in a long black robe, hovered in the center of the field like a giant bat on a broomstick. His face was grim, and his eyes were fixed on Harry Potter.
[Enemy unit has locked onto target: The Ringbearer.]
[Malicious detection: Extremely high.]
The game started.
"Gryffindor foul! Hufflepuff awarded a free throw!"
"What is that player doing? Points deducted!"
Although it was against Hufflepuff, Snape was clearly targeting Gryffindor, or rather, Harry.
"Shameless!" Ron shouted angrily, waving his flag in the Gryffindor stands. "He's biased!"
Lo Wei gripped the railing tightly, muttering to himself.
"Hold on, Harry. Don't let his dark aura affect you. You are the hope of the free people..."
At that moment, Harry suddenly moved. He rode Nimbus 2000, shooting towards the ground like a golden lightning bolt.
Snape tried to stop him, but Harry was too fast.
Amidst gasps of surprise, Harry brushed past Snape's nose, and in that instant, he reached out and caught the golden dot of light.
The match is over.
The entire arena erupted in cheers! The Gryffindor students cheered wildly, and even the Hufflepuff students applauded the spectacular scene.
But amidst the noisy crowd, Lo Wei's reaction was the most unusual.
"Praise be to those who uphold the precepts!"
Luo Wei suddenly raised his arms high and roared to the sky.
"He did it! He used speed to overcome the power of darkness! He broke through the Demon Eye's seal!"
Susan, who was standing next to her, was startled and spilled the popcorn she was holding all over the floor.
"Love?" She cautiously poked Love's arm. "Are you... are you alright? We (Hufflepuff) lost."
Luo Wei turned his head and looked at Susan with teary eyes.
“Winning or losing doesn’t matter, Susan,” he said, his voice choked with emotion. “What matters is that the flame of hope still burns. As long as the Ringbearers haven’t fallen, Middle-earth is still saved!”
Susan: "..."
She decided it would be better to send Rowe to Mrs. Pomfrey for a brain checkup.
[System Settlement:]
[Observe the Battle: The Miracle of Helm's Deep.]
[Achievement Completed: Witness.]
[Reward: Cold Resistance] Lv1 (Effective with prolonged snow training).]
Luo Wei wiped away his tears, feeling a warm current flowing through his body.
"It's worth it," he told himself. "Even if my legs break, it's worth it for this moment."
In the wind and snow, he watched Harry being tossed into the air by his teammates, as if he were seeing Frodo being rescued by the giant eagle at Mount Doom.
The tyrant's whistle, though piercing, could not stop the winds of freedom.
