Chapter 31 Charmander, Hagrid's New Pet!
Time flies, and April has arrived. The Easter holidays have made Hogwarts much more relaxed. The four of them are going to visit Hagrid today.
"The shadow of Lonely Mountain is approaching."
Rowe sat in Hagrid's cabin, staring at the center of the fireplace, muttering to himself.
There, amidst the raging flames, lay a black egg.
[Warning! Signs of an impending catastrophe detected.]
[Item Identification: Descendant of Smaug / Remnants of Ankaragun.]
[Current Status: Incubating (Progress 98%).]
Danger Level: SSS.
"Hagrid,"
"Take my advice, while there's still time, let's cook it. For the peace of Middle-earth."
Hagrid was busy adding firewood to the fire when he heard this and turned around abruptly, his bearded face filled with shock and confusion.
"Cooked? Oh, Rowe, you must be kidding!" Hagrid stood protectively in front of the fireplace. "It's a Norwegian Ridgeback! How rare, how beautiful! I checked the books, these dragons need high temperatures to hatch, like their mothers breathe fire on them."
"You know it breathes fire," Rowe said, pointing to the egg. "Once it hatches, it will turn this place into a second ruined Eribor! It will steal our gold and burn our village down!"
"Don't be silly, it's still a baby." Hagrid looked at the egg with affection. "I'll call it Norber. Listen to that, what a lovely name."
Harry, Ron, and Hermione sat to the side, feeling that Rowe's reaction was a bit excessive, but they were also deeply worried about keeping a dragon in the cabin.
“Love is right, Hagrid,” Hermione tried to reason. “You can’t keep a dragon in the cabin. Dragons are forbidden at Hogwarts. And it grows very fast; it could tear your cabin apart in a few days.”
"I'll take good care of it," Hagrid hummed stubbornly as he continued to heat the fire.
The temperature inside was ridiculously high. Ron's face was flushed, and he kept wiping away sweat; Harry felt like his glasses were about to melt.
But in Loewe's perception, it was more than just heat.
This is the lingering heat from the Doomsday Volcano. It's the scorching heat before the gates of hell open.
Suddenly, a cracking sound broke the silence.
"Click."
Everyone fell silent instantly. Hagrid rushed excitedly to the fireplace, and Harry and the others curiously crowded around.
Only Luo Wei, like a startled rabbit, sprang up from his chair in an instant and darted under the wooden table with astonishing agility.
"Back off! Back off now!" Rowe shouted from under the table. "That's the roar of a dragon! It's coming out!"
The cracks in the eggshell grew wider and wider. With a screeching sound, the eggshell burst open.
A small black dragon staggered out. It had spiky wings, like sharp obsidian daggers; its nose was long, and white smoke billowed from its nostrils; its orange-red eyes gleamed in the firelight.
In Hagrid's eyes, this was an adorable little dragon.
In Rowe's eyes, this was a miniature version of Smaug, perched atop a pile of gold coins, roaring at the world.
[System Alert! A Boss-level Larva has arrived!]
[Company Name: Norbert]
[Race: Ancient Dragon]
[Skill Detection: Hellfire/Dragon's Might (。)]
"Oh my goodness, look how beautiful it is!" Hagrid reached out his rough, calloused hand to stroke the baby dragon's head. "It recognizes its mother!"
"Don't touch it!" Rowe screamed under the table. "It'll bite your hand off! Just like the wolf Kaharos bit off Beren's hand!"
As if understanding Rowe's words, the little dragon suddenly turned its head and opened its mouth towards Hagrid's finger.
"call!"
A ball of orange-red flame spewed from the little dragon's mouth, directly igniting Hagrid's beard.
"Damn it! Put out the fire! Put out the fire!"
Rowe burst out from under the table in an instant, ran quickly to the kitchen, and returned with a bucket of water in his hand. He aimed at Hagrid's face and the little dragon in the fireplace, and splashed it hard.
"Splash!"
The cold water extinguished the fire on Hagrid's beard and soaked the newborn dragon to the bone.
The little dragon let out an angry hiss, shrank its neck, sneezed, and spat out a few wet sparks.
"Oh, Rowe!" Hagrid wiped the water from his face, looking at the trembling little dragon with some concern. "You scared it! It was just sneezing!"
"It's a test launch!" Rowe held up an empty bucket in front of him. "This is the first wave of dragon breath! If I don't intervene, the entire cabin will be reduced to ashes!"
Harry couldn't help but laugh when he saw Hagrid's face covered in water and Rowe looking like he was facing a formidable enemy.
"Well, at least Hagrid's beard is saved." Ron shrugged.
Hermione suddenly pointed out the window, her expression changing drastically.
"Someone's there! Someone's watching through the gap in the curtains!"
Harry whirled around, only to catch a glimpse of a platinum-blonde head flashing by.
"It's Malfoy!"
[Warning! Enemy scouts detected.]
Mission Objective: Prevent intelligence leaks.
"Damn spy!"
Rowe threw away the bucket, drew his wand from his waist, and dashed toward the door in a blur.
"Don't let him get away! He'll bring the message back to Isengard!"
Lowe burst through the wooden door and rushed into the night. But he only saw Malfoy's receding figure. The Slytherin boys ran faster than rabbits.
Lo Wei stood in the darkness, his chest heaving violently.
"We've been exposed."
He turned around and looked at Harry and the others who had rushed out.
"The Demon Eye has turned this way. War is about to begin."
Hagrid, holding little Norber who was still sneezing, looked bewildered: "What war? Rowe, could you get me a towel? Norber has a cold."
Rowe looked at the "world-destroying dragon" being held in Hagrid's arms, then at the helpless Harry trio, and sighed deeply.
[System Settlement:]

[Enemy scouts were repelled (but not captured).]
[Achievement Obtained: Dragon Tamer (Fake)]
[Reward: [Fire Resistance] Lv1 (Passive skill, derived from close-range dragon breath).]
In the following weeks, Norber grew at a frightening rate.
Worst of all, its existence is no longer a secret.
Ever since Malfoy peeked through the window, Hagrid has become neurotic.
"We can't keep it any longer, Hagrid," Harry pleaded earnestly. "Malfoy could betray us at any moment."
"But it's still so small..." Hagrid looked at Norber, who was gnawing on a table leg, with teary eyes.
"It almost bit off Ron's finger yesterday!" Hermione exclaimed angrily. "Ron's still in the hospital! When Madam Pomfrey asked him if he'd been bitten by a dog, he just said he accidentally cut his hand while cutting sausages. Merlin, who's going to believe that excuse?"
"Charlie replied," Harry said suddenly, waving a piece of parchment in his hand. "This Saturday at midnight, at the top of the Astronomy Tower. His friend will come to pick up Norbert."
Luo Wei nodded, his gaze deep.
"Very good. Operation to banish Smaug is officially underway."
