Chapter 32: Sending Norbert away, Gryffindor loses a lot of points!
Saturday midnight, the castle fell silent.
Hagrid cried like a child, stuffing Norber's trunk full of brandy and dead rats, and even preparing a teddy bear for it. Though it was burned by Norber's sneeze as soon as it was put inside.
"Goodbye, Norbert! Mom will never forget you!" Hagrid sobbed.
"Let's go, Hagrid's voice is too loud," Hermione urged anxiously.
Harry and Hermione struggled to lift the huge wooden crate and covered it with the Invisibility Cloak.
"Love, come in too."
"No," Rowe refused. "The trunk is too big; the invisibility cloak won't conceal the three of us. Besides, the Fellowship of the Ring needs a scout."
He tightened his robes and disappeared into the darkness like a true northern knight-errant.
[Mission begins: Escort the source of calamity to the north.]
[Current Environment: Moria Mines.]
Threat Detection: Goblin Overseer (Filch), Orc Spy (Peeves).
The group began moving towards the castle.
For Harry and Hermione, it was a physically demanding task. Norbert kept rummaging around in the box, the clattering sounds echoing in the quiet corridor, making them break out in a cold sweat.
Suddenly, Lowe raised his hand, signaling to stop.
At the corner ahead, two eerie green lights appeared—the eyes of Mrs. Lorris.
[Warning! Outpost at the Eye of Sauron.]
Harry and Hermione's hearts nearly stopped.
Lo Wei took a deep breath and pulled a pebble from his pocket.
"Look over there, you foolish beast."
With a flick of his wrist, the pebble arced through the air and struck a suit of armor at the end of the corridor.
"when--!"
Mrs. Lorris was immediately drawn by the sound and rushed over like an arrow.
"Move! Move! Move!" Rowe urged silently with his mouth.
They took the opportunity to rush across the danger zone.
Next up is Pikachu. That annoying ghost is playing with a ball at the bottom of the stairs.
Instead of forcing his way in, Lowe imitated the hoarse, sinister breathing of Barrow the Blood (the Slytherin ghost, Peeves' only nemesis): "Peeves. I want to... turn you... into... a specimen."
The mischievous ghost let out a strange scream in fright and instantly flew through the wall and escaped.
Finally, panting, they climbed to the top of the Astronomy Tower.
The cold night wind stung their cheeks. Harry and Hermione slumped to the ground, feeling as if their arms were about to break.
"Have they arrived?" Hermione asked.
Lowe looked up at the night sky. Four flying brooms descended from the clouds.
[Reinforcements arrive: The giant eagle of the Misty Mountains.]
[Faction: Friendly.]
Four wizards jumped off their brooms; they were Charlie's friends, and each of them looked very capable.
"Is this the trouble?" the leading wizard asked with a smile, looking at the still-shaking box.
"Yes." Rowe stepped forward. "This is a young Smaug. Please make sure to take it deep into the wasteland, and don't let it wreak havoc on Middle-earth (Hogwarts) again."
The wizard paused for a moment, then burst into laughter: "Ha ha, Charlie's right, you're quite amusing, Hufflepuff boy. Don't worry, we'll take good care of it."
The box was secured with special harnesses. With a few whistles, the wizards carried Norber into the air and disappeared into the vast night.
Standing on the edge of the tower, Luo Wei watched the black dot representing "destruction" disappear into the distance and let out a long sigh of relief.
"Mission accomplished. The world is safe."
Harry and Hermione also smiled with relief.
"Great, finally rid of it." Harry wiped his sweat. "Let's go back to sleep. Ron will be overjoyed to hear this."
The three of them walked down the stairs happily.
Perhaps because they were too happy, or perhaps because they felt the biggest threat had been eliminated, they made a fatal mistake—they forgot to put on their invisibility cloaks.
As they reached the top of the stairs on the first floor, an oil lamp suddenly lit up, casting long shadows of them on the wall.
Filch stood there, a twisted, ecstatic smile on his face.
"Gotcha," he said softly, his voice filled with a wicked glee. "Still running around in the middle of the night. Potter, Granger, and that eccentric Hufflepuff."
[System Alert! Ambush!]
Enemy unit: Goblin Overseer.
Status: Captured.
"Come with me," Filch said. "Professor McGonagall is waiting for you."
At that moment, Harry felt his heart sink into his stomach.
In Professor McGonagall's office.
Professor McGonagall wore a checkered morning gown, her lips pressed into a thin white line.
[Boss Battle: The Wrathful Queen/The Dark Side of Galadriel.]
[Intimidation Level: MAX.]
"I never imagined this," Professor McGonagall's voice trembled. "The middle of the night! Still at the Astronomy Tower! And Neville Longbottom, he was searching everywhere for you, but I caught him. And Malfoy, he said you had a dragon and wanted to capture you all—that's utter nonsense!"
So Malfoy was arrested too? Rowe raised an eyebrow. That's good news.
Professor McGonagall declared sternly, "Gryffindor loses 100 points! That's 50 points each!"
"One hundred points?" Harry exclaimed in horror. This was practically wiping out all of Gryffindor's efforts over the past year.
"Hufflepuff, minus fifty points, Mr. Rowe." Professor McGonagall turned to Rowe.
Harry and Hermione lowered their heads in despair, knowing what hell awaited them tomorrow.
But Lo Wei still stood up straight.
On the system interface, although the [Academy Reputation] was plummeting, displaying a grim red, another line of golden text was shining brightly:
Main quest complete: Banish the source of calamity.
[Achievement Completed: The Bearer of Burdens.]
[Reward: Load-carrying capacity +2 (strength modifier).]
[Hidden Bonus: Willpower +1 (Facing the Queen's Wrath).]
"That's fair, Professor," Rowe suddenly said.
Professor McGonagall was stunned: "What did you say?"
"I mean, sometimes you have to pay a price to protect something more important."
"Even if I am misunderstood, even if I am punished, as long as the world remains at peace, I will have no regrets."
Professor McGonagall stared at him for a long time, and finally seemed to laugh out of anger.
"You're still as special as ever, Rowe. Now, all of you go back to sleep! The solitary confinement notice will be sent to you soon."
Harry almost cried as he walked out of the office.
"Everyone hates us."
Rowe patted Harry on the shoulder and handed him a handkerchief that he seemed to have pulled out of nowhere.
"Don't weep, you who uphold the precepts." He pointed to the moon outside the window. "Heroes are always lonely. In the end, people will sing our praises. As for now, let us enjoy this solitude."
Harry looked at Rowe, and although he was still very sad, for some reason, he suddenly felt less hopeless.
"You're strange, Rowe," Harry sniffed. "But thank you."
