Chapter 91 exposes the fraudsters and takes you on a real adventure!
Although it was only afternoon, darkness had already engulfed Hogwarts like a tidal wave. Dark clouds pressed low over the spires of the towers.
"We have to find Lockhart," Harry said through gritted teeth. "He's the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, and no matter how much of a jerk he is normally, it's his duty now. He has to go save Ginny!"
"If he hasn't run away yet," Ron said pessimistically. "Have you read his books? Every time he's in real danger, he always 'just happens' to lose his wand or get knocked unconscious."
"Deserters are to be executed."
"In the laws of Rohan, those who desert in the face of battle will be stripped of their honor and banished to the wilderness."
The three of them ran wildly up the marble staircase, their footsteps echoing through the empty castle, with Rowe leading the way.
[Mission Objective: Intercept Grimma Clever Words]
[Suggested Action: Break down the door, no warning required]
They rushed to the door of the Defense Against the Dark Arts office on the third floor. Even through the heavy oak door, they could hear the chaotic sounds coming from inside—books being thrown on the floor, clothes being stuffed into boxes, and someone muttering frantically.
"He's inside!" Harry shouted, reaching for the doorknob.
"Step back, you who uphold the precepts."
Rowe growled and yanked Harry away. He took a half-step back, caught his breath, and then jerked his right foot up.
"Spartacus!!!"
"Bang!"
With a loud bang, the office door was kicked open by this powerful "Spartan kick"! The heavy wooden door slammed heavily against the wall.
"Who! Who is it! Don't kill me!"
Gilderoy Lockhart was leaning over a suitcase, trying to stuff a jade-green robe embroidered with gold thread into it.
The sudden loud noise startled him so much that he jumped up, still clutching a bright pink curling iron in his hand, trembling as if he had been electrocuted.
The office was a mess, as if it had been ransacked by orcs. The self-portraits that had been neatly hung on the walls had been haphazardly torn down, some even trampled underfoot; quill pens, ink bottles, and books from the desk were scattered all over the floor.
Professor Lockhart, who was always glamorous and impeccably groomed, was now disheveled, his tie askew, and his meticulously styled blond hair a complete mess.
He no longer looked like the debonair writer, but a thief caught red-handed, a burglar packing up his stolen goods.
[Enemy Unit Confirmed: Grimma Cleverton (Exile Form)]
[Status: Panic/Greed/Preparing to Flee]
[Equipment: None (Wand is lying on the corner of the table, only a curling iron is in hand)]
[Comment: Strip away the glamorous exterior, and all that's left is an empty shell.]
Rowe strode into the room, his boots landing on the scattered photographs. He raised the frying pan in his hand.
"when!!!"
The frying pan was slammed heavily onto the mahogany table.
Lockhart shuddered again in fright, dropping the curling iron from his hand, which rolled to Harry's feet.
"Where are you going, Grima?" Rowe's voice was high-pitched and full of sarcasm, echoing in the room. "Has your master abandoned you? Or are you planning to take the treasures you've plundered from Rohan (the wizarding world) and go to Mordor alone to claim your spoils?"
"I...I don't understand what you're talking about!" Lockhart screamed, his eyes darting around. "I...I just have an urgent...um...something I have to deal with! Yes, it's very urgent! I have to leave immediately! My agent...my new book..."
"You're trying to run away?" Harry stared at him, dumbfounded. "While Ginny was kidnapped? While the whole school was counting on you? You're the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor!"
"I'm a professor, but I can't do that!" Lockhart screamed in despair. "That monster...it took the girl! What can I do? I'm just a writer! I'm just a storyteller!"
"What about all those adventures you wrote in your book?" Ron roared, his face flushed red with rage that made him forget his fear. "You fought werewolves, vampires, even ghosts! You said you drove the Banden Ghost out of the castle!"
"That's someone else's business!" Lockhart roared hysterically, spreading his hands, finally tearing off his last pretense. "I just found them, listened to their stories, and then used a forgetting charm to make them forget they did it! And then they pinned the credit on me! What's wrong with that? Fame comes at a price! Do you think those autographed photos just fell from the sky?"
Harry and Ron were stunned. They had never imagined that this professor, who, while annoying, was at least somewhat respectable, was actually a complete fraud, a parasite who lived by stealing the glory of others.
[System determination: Enemy unit morale has collapsed]
[Intelligence Disclosure: Target Admits His Power Originated from Deception and Theft]
[The True Face of Clever Words: An Incompetent Vampire]
"As expected." Rowe sneered. "You admit it. You have no real power. You only steal the glory of warriors by whispering in the king's ear with lies and venomous tongues. You are even more pathetic than Clever Words. At least Clever Words is loyal to Saruman, while you are only loyal to your pathetic vanity."
He stepped forward, and Lockhart was so frightened that he retreated repeatedly until his knee hit his own box, causing him to fall into it with a thud, his hands and feet becoming entangled in the emerald green robe.
"No...don't hurt me!" Lockhart pleaded, tears and snot streaming down his face. "I can teach you the Oblivion Charm! It works really well! Just let me go...I'll give you all my salary for this semester!"
"Shut up."
"It seems you really are a piece of trash, not even worthy of dying as a warrior." Rowe turned to Harry, "But he's still useful."
"Useful?" Harry looked at Lockhart, who was cowering and trembling in the box, with disgust, as if he were a slug. "What use is someone like that? As a roadblock?"
"We need a mine detector," Rowe said casually, "or rather, a decoy. When entering a dungeon full of traps, someone usually needs to go ahead and test the hardness of the floor."
He grabbed Lockhart by the collar, pulled him out of the box like a chick, and roughly shoved him toward the door.
"Go ahead, Grimaldi." Rowe nudged Lockhart in the back with his frying pan. "To Myrtle's ablution chamber."
If we step into a trap, you'll be the first to know. This is your only real adventure in your life; you should thank me.
"I'm not going! There are... there are ghosts there! And monsters!"
"Go, or I'll deal with deserters according to wartime regulations right now."
"Believe me, my frying pan is harder than the basilisk's teeth."
Lockhart looked into Rowe's emotionless eyes behind his sunglasses, then at the frying pan that looked like it could flatten a person's head, and swallowed hard. He realized this second-year student was serious. He took a hesitant step.
[Battle Results: Successful Coup]
[Achievement: Exposing the Fraudster]
[Current Status Change: On the Eve of the Decisive Battle]
[System Reward: Temporarily increase all attributes by 10% (The Wrath of Justice buff lasts until the end of the battle)]
A group of people escorted the dejected Lockhart out of the office.
A deathly silence fell over the castle. All the portraits were empty, and the ghosts had hidden themselves away. Only their footsteps echoed in the corridors.
