Chapter 36 Sky Blue School Uniform
Monday morning.
Lin Chuan stood in front of the bathroom mirror, looking at his sky-blue school uniform.
He never imagined that he would wear this uniform again in his life. Back in high school, he liked to be unconventional and didn't really like wearing school uniforms.
Now, however, he found the school uniform quite comfortable to wear. He touched the clothes and couldn't help but smile. "Not bad."
Lin Chuan rubbed his face, turned around and walked out of the bathroom without waking his parents who had been working until midnight the night before. He quietly opened the front door and went out by himself.
"Hey hey, good morning!"
Lin Chuan ran into Chen Xiyu.
She stood with her hands behind her back, smiling as she greeted everyone. She wore the same sky-blue school uniform, and sunlight streamed in from the corridor, falling on her slender figure. Every line on the girl's body exuded youthful beauty.
"Good morning," Lin Chuan said.
"I got up earlier than you today," Chen Xiyu said with a hint of pride.
"If only you could get up this early during military training," Lin Chuan said, and the two walked downstairs together.
"That's different, military training is exhausting," Chen Xiyu said.
"For top students, going to school is definitely much better than military training," Lin Chuan said with a hint of sarcasm.
"To you, I really am a top student," Chen Xiyu said with a smile.
More than half an hour later, the two stood at the door of Class 5 classroom.
Although he had been here many times before, this was the first time he had a proper class. Lin Chuan subconsciously glanced inside first.
The classroom was spacious and bright, with neatly arranged desks and long, light gray curtains hanging by the windows at the back.
Many students had already arrived, chatting in twos and threes. One student talked about where he went on the weekend, while another recounted the fun things that happened during military training.
For many, this is the first day of school after a long summer vacation, and from today onwards they are truly high school students, so they seem a little excited.
"Where do you want to sit?" Chen Xiyu asked.
"Let's find a spot in the back," Lin Chuan said.
"Oh, that suits you perfectly," Chen Xiyu said, meaning that those who don't do well in school like to sit in the back.
"Okay, Chen Xueba." Lin Chuan grinned.
Seeing that there were still empty seats by the window, Lin Chuan walked over without hesitation and chose a window seat.
He liked this spot; when he was daydreaming, he could look out the window at the scenery. Chen Xiyu was still sitting in the front row, but this time she had a new deskmate, Zhou Yun.
However, at the beginning of the semester, it doesn't really matter how you sit; the homeroom teacher might rearrange the seats later.
When the bell rang for the second time, Wang Xu ran into the classroom, looked around for a while, and soon saw his deskmate. He then ran over and sat down.
"Hehe, I'm not late, am I?" Wang Xu wiped the sweat from his forehead. "The bus I took on the way broke down, so I ran all the way from one bus stop away. I'm exhausted."
"If it were a normal morning reading session, you would already be late, but today is the first day of class, so it seems there was no morning reading session," Lin Chuan said.
Wang Xu breathed a sigh of relief.
Xue Ren also entered the classroom, and the noisy classroom quietly quieted down on its own. He was carrying a stack of test papers in his arms.
Wang Xu was taken aback, somewhat surprised. "What's Old Xue holding? Is it going to be a placement test on the first day of school?"
"Class, please be quiet. Today is your first day of high school, but we won't have class yet. We'll be having a placement test," Xue Ren said, placing the test papers on the podium.
"what?"
"Teacher, we have an exam on the first day of school?" many students groaned in low voices.
"Teacher, you haven't read the book."
"Don't worry, it's just a surprise check, a way to get a feel for things before the start of the semester. It won't affect the class assignments, so take the test with peace of mind," Xue Ren said.
Lin Chuan couldn't help but sigh, this No. 1 High School in the city is indeed strict; they started the exam before even having a single class.
In fact, it is normal for high schools to have a placement test on the first day of school. It's just that the high school Lin Chuan attended before wasn't very good, so there was no such procedure, and he didn't even know that it existed.
If I had known, he would have read at least a few books on the weekend; he really miscalculated this time.
Of course, some students seemed to know there would be a placement test and acted very naturally. For example, Liu Hao had a cousin who was a year older than him, so he asked beforehand and even studied over the weekend.
"Teacher, why didn't you say anything last week?" Zhao Jiajia said with a bitter face, clearly indicating that she hadn't reviewed either.
"If I tell you in advance, how can I conduct a surprise investigation?" Xue Ren glanced at her and said indifferently.
Zhao Jiajia could only stick out her tongue in frustration.
"The test papers were prepared by a few of us teachers, and they might be a bit harder than your high school entrance exam, so you need to be mentally prepared," Xue Ren continued. "Today we will take the three subjects of Chinese, Mathematics, and English. We will finish the exams in one day. If there are no problems, we will start the exams."
At this moment, both Lin Chuan and Liu Hao raised their hands.
"Are you two busy?" Xue Ren asked.
"Teacher, didn't we say before military training that I was the temporary class monitor? Now that school has started, shouldn't we elect a new class monitor?" Lin Chuan asked.
Xue Ren smiled and said, "There's no rush to elect a new class monitor. After all, besides the class monitor, there are also subject representatives and other class officers, but you haven't attended a single class. So we can't elect one. I plan to re-elect the class officers at the end of this month. Until then, you can continue to be the class officer."
Lin Chuan smiled wryly, feeling that Lao Xue was deliberately exploiting his labor.
In contrast, Liu Hao's expression was equally unpleasant, because he had just been preparing to elect a new class monitor, but Xue Ren's actions had dashed his hopes.
"Liu Hao, what's up?"
"It's alright now." Liu Hao smiled sheepishly, glad he hadn't asked first.
"Then everyone be quiet and get ready for the exam," Xue Ren said. "Class monitor, come up and hand out the test papers. We'll be taking the Chinese exam. By the way, I'm also your Chinese teacher."
It's not uncommon for a homeroom teacher to be a Chinese language teacher, but it's certainly rare to find a male Chinese language teacher.
Lin Chuan walked to the podium and took the test paper, but instead of distributing it directly, he simply divided it into five copies and gave them to the students sitting in the front row, then had them pass them down in order.
When he returned to his seat, the exam papers were passed down. Lin Chuan picked up the exam paper and glanced at it. He had some recollection of the familiar poems, but he couldn't quite remember them.
Although he did a simple review before entering school, he still had three years of junior high school knowledge, and he didn't have a photographic memory.
Even though he couldn't remember, now that he had the test paper in his hands, he still tried to answer the questions. Lin Chuan picked up his pen and began to work out the answers.
Although it was all done based on common sense, and it was done quite quickly, don't worry about whether it was right or wrong, just ask how fast it was.
With one hour left before the exam, Lin Chuan only had the essay to write. He glanced at the topic, a relatively simple semi-structured essay for junior high school students: "When _ comes."
After thinking for a while, he immediately picked up his pen and wrote his first essay since returning to student life, titled "When Tranquility Comes".
"In this small southern town, summers in my memory are always filled with heat and sparsely fallen leaves..."
Middle school essays are usually only a few hundred words long, but Lin Chuan filled the entire blank page with his writing.
As he put down his pen, Xue Ren stood up at the same time. "Alright, the exam is over. Last table, pass the exam papers forward."
The last student in each group moves their test paper forward, and so on, until the test papers are at the front.
"There's nothing to do this morning, so you can all go about your business. The second and third-year students are still in class, so don't go over there and make a scene." Xue Ren explained the situation and then left with the test papers.
"Finally finished the exam, it was so hard!" Wang Xu stretched and turned to his deskmate, "Old Lin, what about you?"
"It's been too long, I've forgotten most of it."
"Who isn't?" Wang Xu said.
Lin Chuan thought to himself, "The 'long time' in your heart is definitely different from mine. For you, it's just one summer vacation, but for me, it's been more than ten years in the blink of an eye."
They took math and English exams in the afternoon, but it was still Lao Xue who came. Since he was just a proctor, it didn't really matter which subject the teacher was.
When Lin Chuan was writing the math test, the knowledge points seemed quite simple, but unfortunately he just couldn't remember them. He could only pick a few questions that seemed like common sense and was too lazy to fill in the rest.
The final exam subject was English. After receiving the English test paper, Lin Chuan felt a sense of familiarity, as if he were coming home. Junior high school English was incredibly easy for him, and he finished it in just half an hour.
The rest of the time was spent waiting for the bell to ring, which was a bit boring.
Lin Chuan didn't have any novels downloaded on his phone, nor did he have any comic books hidden in his drawer.
He could only turn his head and stare blankly outside the window. The sun was setting, the city skyline undulated in the distance, and the sky was tinged with a wine-red hue. He thought about the novel he had been working on over the weekend, and about the future...
