Alaska Gold Rush Diary
Chapter 37 Another Crisis
Two days after the snake bite incident, Zhou Xin finally finished excavating all the previously marked locations.
After finding the gold nugget, their luck ran out again, and all they dug up afterward were tiny gold grains.
Fortunately, Edward's leg swelling had completely subsided, and the pain had become less noticeable, so he was finally able to resume his work.
He originally wanted to continue mining for gold the next day, but Zhou Xin stopped him.
His leg is still not fully healed and he is very inflexible. Forcing himself to move around might cause even more trouble.
Therefore, just to be on the safe side, Zhou Xin let him rest for another two days.
"Xin, you've worked so hard these past two days. I'll try my best to catch up!" Edward still felt a little apologetic for the few days he had been delayed.
"It's okay. You're not fully recovered yet. Just go back to work normally to avoid any other problems."
Edward knew he had a point and nodded.
Since all the marked points had been dug up, the two divided the work again: Zhou Xin continued to find and mark points, while Edward dug behind him.
Their gold-hunting life entered a stable period of more than a week.
Correspondingly, the harvest became very stable and uneventful, with only about one ounce of gold found each day.
This harvest is already quite considerable. If an ordinary gold hunter could have such a stable harvest every day, he would probably be grinning from ear to ear, because many times, they might not have any harvest for several days in a row.
However, Zhou Xin, who possessed supernatural abilities and had already found a piece of gold nugget, was still somewhat unsatisfied.
After catching a big fish, fishing for small carp will feel rather dull.
He kept reminding himself that he was there to dig for gold and make money, not to experience the fun of gold mining.
Small gold nuggets are the main course, while gold nuggets are a comforting dessert.
Although the team has now doubled in size to two people, it is still a manual operation and the nature of the work has not changed fundamentally.
To establish a medium-sized gold mine in Alaska, the investment in land leasing, equipment, and personnel would require at least four to five million US dollars.
Based on the current gold price of $2240 per ounce, and taking into account factors such as taxes, fees, and gold purity, Zhou Xin roughly estimates that he needs to find at least 2500 ounces of gold to start the mine.
Reaching the 2500-ounce target a day earlier means getting the mine up and running sooner.
That's why he rushed to Western Australia to hunt for gold immediately after the Alaskan gold rush season ended.
He had a clear goal, but Edward did not.
During this time, he watched the gold in the wooden box increase little by little, and he couldn't stop smiling every day.
"Gold is truly the most wonderful thing in the world!"
He grabbed a handful of gold and held it to his nose with relish, as if he could smell it just like Zhou Xin.
Their harvest has reached 28.7 ounces.
Just when the two thought they could continue digging for gold peacefully, trouble struck.
As the two were finishing work and heading back to camp, a car suddenly drove into the deserted wilderness and blocked their way.
Three men jumped out of the car. The one in the lead was about forty years old, burly, and his face was full of anger.
"Who gave you permission to dig for gold here? This is my land!"
Seeing that the visitor was hostile, Zhou Xin decided to find out the situation first, so he smiled and spoke politely:
"I'm sorry, I think you've made a mistake. We checked before we came here, and this land doesn't seem to have an owner at the moment."
Edward added, "That's right, we came here to search for gold because we confirmed that this land has no owner."
The man shouted, "I'm not mistaken! It's those damn incompetent idiots at the Department of the Interior and the Land Administration Bureau who are wrong!"
"May I ask what exactly happened?" Zhou Xin remained polite.
The man said angrily, "This land belonged to my uncle, who died last year."
"We haven't been in touch for many years, so I only found out about this a few months ago."
"He had no children; I am his only legal heir!"
"Those good-for-nothings didn't fulfill their duty of passing on my uncle's inheritance to me; they actually auctioned it off."
"I won't pursue his property, but I'm determined to get this land back!"
"Although I'm still suing them, this land will be mine sooner or later, so you must leave immediately and return all the gold you've harvested!"
After hearing his words, Zhou Xin was speechless.
This guy didn't even know his uncle had died, yet he demanded to inherit his estate after his death.
He immediately thought of stories in China where brothers neglected their parents while they were alive, but fought tooth and nail over the inheritance after their parents' death.
Although people around the world have different skin colors and cultures, human nature is generally similar.
Looking at the three burly men in front of him, Zhou Xin made a decision.
"We can leave, but we can't give you what we've gained."
The man's face hardened, and he said menacingly, "What did you say?"
Zhou Xin looked up into his eyes with a determined expression.
"Since you are still suing the Land Authority and have not won, it means that the land does not legally belong to you at present."
"Then the gold we found naturally doesn't belong to you."
The man was clearly taken aback by Zhou Xin's words, paused for a moment, and then burst into a tirade of curses.
"Fools, if you give me back my gold, you're not leaving here!"
His two companions took two steps forward, and the three of them surrounded Zhou Xin and Edward.
Edward showed no fear whatsoever, but rather a hint of mockery.
"If you can call your uncle over, we will definitely return the gold to him."
"You bastard, you're asking for it!"
Enraged, the man threw a punch at Edward.
But just as he was about to make a move, Zhou Xin, who was next to Edward, had already made his move first!
He swung the detector in his hand and smashed it hard into the man's waist.
Seeing the man's attitude and knowing that things couldn't be resolved peacefully, Zhou Xin chose to strike first.
They certainly wouldn't hand over their hard-earned harvest of nearly ten days to this guy so easily.
"Kill them all!"
The man bent over in pain and gave orders to his companions.
The other two had already made their move when Zhou Xin did, and Zhou Xin continued to wave the detector in his hand, using it as a stick to beat the dog.
Edward followed his example and used the detector as a weapon to fight back.
Once the man who had been ambushed by Zhou Xin had recovered, he also stepped forward and launched an attack.
Zhou Xin is actually quite strong; his previous work has given him a physical condition that is better than the average person.
If it were a one-on-one fight, he wouldn't be afraid of any of the three.
However, two fists can't fight four hands. At this point, it was two against three, and the two of them were quickly hit several times. The detector was also grabbed and pulled by the other party.
Just then, a wolf howl was heard, and Logan pounced, biting and tearing at one of the men's shoulders.
The person who was bitten screamed in agony, and his shoulder was instantly covered in blood and gore.
