The Walking Dead: Starting as a Cowboy
Chapter 117 Pregnancy?
Morgan and Rick walked home together; they lived nearby and were neighbors.
Morgan was worried about his son Dwyane being home alone, so he always asked Lori to help look after him.
Fortunately, Dwyane is hardworking, sensible, and quite cheerful. He helps Lori with housework and so on, which Lori likes very much.
Rick patted Morgan on the shoulder, sighed, and said, "If you really can't adapt, then do something else."
"The engineering team is short-staffed, and Hershel is also hiring for farm work. If all else fails, you can learn to be an electrician or something..."
Rick offered his suggestion, and Morgan gave an awkward smile, saying apologetically, "I'm sorry, I put you in a difficult position earlier."
Morgan was recruited into the team by Rick, and in the eyes of others, the two were almost inseparable. Morgan's words against Glenn today will definitely reach the ears of the other team members.
This will inevitably have an impact on Rick.
Rick smiled. "I'm fine. You saved my life. There's no need to mention such trivial matters."
After chatting for a bit, the two arrived at Rick's house.
Opening the door, you can hear the sounds of children playing inside.
Rick and Morgan exchanged a smile, their weariness from being outside seemingly washed away by the sound.
Rick smiled and opened his arms. "Karl, I'm back."
Carl screamed and frantically threw himself into Rick's arms.
Dwyane was much shyer, but he still hugged Morgan, who asked softly, "Did you have fun today?"
Dwyane glanced at Lori, thinking he was being discreet, and whispered, "I'm happy, but Aunt Lori makes us do homework and study."
For children all over the world, the biggest enemy is studying and homework.
Lori and Rick, who were eavesdropping, and Morgan all laughed at the same time.
Dwyane then realized he was being eavesdropped on, and his dark skin instantly turned bright red, a deep red tinge against his skin.
After saying goodbye to Lori and Carl, Morgan took Dwyane home.
After a period of wild fun, Carl quickly fell asleep.
Rick watched Carl fall asleep, his deep blue eyes filled with love for his child. With a tender look, Rick lowered his head and kissed Carl's forehead.
Goodnight, son.
Rick closed the door and faced Lori, whose face was grim. "So, what do you want to argue about today?"
Rick's expression was cold, showing no affection whatsoever for his lover.
In fact, Rick loves Lori very much.
However, Lori's insecurity quickly surfaced after Sean left.
As Rick frequently went out on missions, especially long missions like returning to Kingsshire, Lori's emotions would erupt like a landslide, and she would often lash out at Rick.
Rick also understood his wife's infidelity from Lori's various reactions, and he chose to forgive her.
But later, Rick found that he couldn't actually accept it.
Adding to the shock, Lori looked at him with a horrified expression, as if he were a murderer, when she heard him say that he had killed someone while on a mission.
From that moment on, Rick knew that their relationship was slowly sliding into an abyss, beyond repair.
Lori pursed her lips. "I'm pregnant!"
"What?!" Rick was stunned for a moment, then asked in surprise, "Are you serious?"
Lori's expression didn't change; she was clearly not joking.
Rick took a deep breath, put his hands on his hips, and asked, "When...when did this happen?"
Lori paused for a few seconds, then asked, "Is this what you wanted to ask?"
"What else?" Rick took a step back, staring at Lori. "What do you think I should ask?"
Lori opened her mouth, but ultimately said nothing.
After a while, Lori confessed everything, but Rick's expression remained unchanged; he simply said something indifferently.
"I know all of that."
"You know?" Lori covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes.
But this no longer elicited Rick's pity. Rick frowned: "Didn't your blood test come back positive last time at the CDC?"
Rick doesn't know if the child is his or Sean's; he needs the child's exact birth date.
If it were at the CDC, Rick would believe that this was his child.
But if it were before, it would be hard to say whose it was.
Lori pursed her lips and lowered her head guiltily: "It should be... before the CDC, in the first few days after getting pregnant, nothing can be detected in the blood."
"I've been vomiting quite frequently these past few days, similar to when I was pregnant with Karl, plus my period hasn't come lately."
Lori's voice trailed off as she spoke, as if she were feeling very aggrieved.
Rick didn't think that far ahead. "Do you want to give birth or have an abortion?"
Their relationship broke down, and Rick stopped dwelling on his feelings for Lori; he had his own things to do.
"You want to abort the child, right?"
Before Lori could say anything, Rick spoke up.
Based on Rick's understanding of Lori, given the terrifying apocalypse, Lori would most likely not give birth to the child.
Lori is so stubborn and refuses to listen to advice; she must not have been able to find the medication before coming to tell me about the situation.
Things unfolded exactly as Rick had predicted.
In the small town, medicine is extremely precious and is kept in the hospital, which is a small wooden building, only much taller than other small buildings.
There are very few doctors up there, only a handful, and two of them are even "veterinarians" from the valley.
In other words, someone who doesn't have a medical license but frequently treats cowboy injuries after fights between two ranches.
Although their theoretical knowledge may not be extensive, their treatment skills are far superior to those of doctors in ordinary hospitals.
"You went to the hospital?" Rick asked.
Lori hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "I'll go find the birth control pills."
"But they didn't give it to us, saying that both husband and wife need to come and pick up the birth control pills."
Rick lowered his head and fell silent.
He didn't know what to do about this.
A sense of entanglement and hesitation churned within me.
The next day, the sky was overcast, and fine, hair-like rain began to fall from the sky.
Amy stretched her hand out the window, feeling a cool sensation spreading upwards from her palm.
Amy withdrew her hand, rubbed it together, and breathed on it.
"Caesar, is it going to get colder lately?"
Amy closed the window and lit several candles.
"Yes, it's going to get colder soon." Caesar leaned back in his chair and looked out the window.
Outside, the continuous dark clouds blocked out the sunlight, turning the entire sky into a heavy, leaden gray.
Caesar couldn't help but ask, "How are the winter clothing and food reserves in the town?"
Amy turned her head and replied, "We don't have enough winter clothing reserves. We can only equip our combat crew, and that's after we started collecting it as you instructed."
"From today onwards, the focus of any missions outside should be on collecting winter clothing." Caesar nodded.
"Our food reserves are also somewhat insufficient..."
knock knock --
A knock came at the door.
