The meeting was quick, and it was decided that sufficient combat preparations and defensive fortifications should be made before the arrival of the zombie horde.

After the arrival of the zombie horde, Black Pine Valley should be kept as quiet as possible. Do not fire shots or make any great noise. Patrols should be sent out every day, with people wearing robes covered in zombie flesh and blood.

Waiting for the walkers to leave.

According to Dr. Jenner's estimates, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the horde of zombies will only surround Blackpine Valley for a maximum of one week before leaving.

The meeting ended, and Caesar walked out of the conference room.

Daryl pulled Moore away, who was feeling weak and was helped away by his brother.

The two brothers stopped arguing at this point.

Caesar smiled slightly.

"The situation that Moore encountered on this trip must have been very dangerous, right?" A gentle female voice reached his ears.

A soft, warm little hand slipped into Caesar's palm. Caesar couldn't help but squeeze the little hand and said with a smile:

"Yeah, I almost died."

Daryl noticed, but was too embarrassed to express his concern directly. He's so awkward.

Caesar turned his head to look at Amy standing beside him.

Amy took Caesar's arm, shook it gently, and looked up at him:

"I hope our future children won't be like this."

"Yes, that's right."

Seeing Amy say this, Caesar naturally wouldn't shy away from it.

"How many children do you think we'll have in the future?" Caesar asked.

"Hmm~" Amy tilted her head back, thought for a moment, and said, "At least three."

"One older brother, one younger sister, and then a younger brother."

"..."

Amy clung to Caesar's arm and staggered toward home.

Caesar would occasionally say a word or two, making Amy laugh heartily.

……

The next day, at Bison Pass.

Caesar stood on the city wall, watching the residents below digging trenches.

"Boss, I'll dig a trench about 100 meters in front of the gate, about two or three meters deep and two meters wide, with the bottom filled with spikes and iron bars."

"Once a zombie enters, it's very difficult for it to crawl out intact."

"Hmm, and then what? These trenches can't hold off tens of thousands of zombies." Caesar nodded and pressed for an answer.

Jacques flipped through his notebook. "These trenches aren't primarily meant to stop the walkers, but at least to make things more difficult for them."

"There were also those abandoned vehicles before. We used them to block the trenches and filled the gaps between them with barbed wire. That was enough to stop a lot of zombies."

"Build a ramp in front of the gate so that the zombies outside can only climb up when they come up, and put some spikes on the ramp so that the zombies will run into them."

"These are the three main floors."

Jacques has finished his report.

Caesar pondered the matter but couldn't find any flaws in the arrangement, so he asked:

"Did you ask Daryl? He knows more about traps than I do."

"This was planned with Captain Daryl."

"That's fine then."

After seeing Jacques off, Caesar watched quietly as the residents went to work.

The weather is getting colder and colder, with gusts of strong wind blowing.

Caesar stepped down from the city wall, took a shovel, and joined the residents in digging the trench.

Digging trenches was not as easy as I had imagined; the ground was hard, and I could only dig a little bit with each shovel.

Caesar buried himself in his work, his efficiency comparable to that of ten men, and he dug trenches at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Before long, Caesar was sweating profusely from the heat.

"Would you like some water?" Beth stood gracefully on the trench, handing over a cup filled with warm water.

"Okay, thank you."

Caesar took the cup and drank it all in one gulp.

"Want more?"

"Another one, please."

After drinking the water again, Caesar handed the cup back.

"Is there something you need from me?"

Caesar glanced at Beth, who was still clutching the kettle and cup, and realized that something might be wrong with her.

Beth shuffled her feet into the dirt and asked softly, "Can I join the training camp?"

The training camp is where warriors are trained; Andrea and Carol both train there.

Those who have completed training can directly join the combat squad.

Caesar chuckled, leaning on his shovel. "Why don't you just go and register?"

Beth looked up and said anxiously, "I can't register. The people at the registration desk said I need my dad's permission, but my dad won't let me join the training camp."

Caesar recalled that if the applicant was young, he would seek their parents' consent.

"You can't discuss this with me; you have to discuss it with your dad."

After thinking it over, and meeting Beth's expectant gaze, Caesar still refused.

"Why?" Beth didn't understand, and her eyes welled up with tears.

Seeing that Beth was emotional, Caesar handed the shovel to someone nearby and led Beth to the rest area.

Sitting in his camping chair, Caesar glanced at Beth.

Beth stood stiffly, refusing to sit down, like a sulking child.

Caesar shook his head and chuckled, neither urging her to sit down nor saying a word.

The two remained locked in this stalemate, one sitting and one standing.

Beth was starting to feel unsteady on her feet. She glanced at Caesar, then quickly looked away.

After waiting for a while, Caesar seemed not to notice her gaze.

Beth could only cough lightly twice.

No matter what Beth did, Caesar didn't react; he just looked at the scenery in front of him and admired it to himself.

"Just tell me, how can I get my dad to agree?"

Beth couldn't hold back any longer and finally spoke up.

Caesar smiled and patted the camping chair next to him. "You sit down first."

"Oh." Beth sat down obediently and looked at Caesar intently.

"Tell me first why you want to join the training camp?"

Caesar turned his head, his expression becoming much more serious.

"I, I..." Beth's eyes darted around, as if searching for a suitable reason.

Caesar interrupted Beth abruptly, "You need to tell me the truth, or I won't help you."

Caesar's pupils were deep, and under his gaze, Beth lowered her head in grievance: "I... I don't want to stay at home."

"Or do some work like this, I want to learn how to fight, so I don't die helplessly like Jimmy."

The Jimmy that Beth mentioned was her boyfriend and the boy next door to the Herschel family. He died at the hands of Randall's gang.

"At first, I even thought about suicide."

Tears welled up in Beth's eyes.

"But I think I still have Maggie and my dad, and I won't let them be sad about my death."

"I didn't want to dwell on the pain of losing my family, so I wanted to do something. It was only after helping out that I realized..."

"I need to be able to protect myself, to be as strong as Maggie."

When Maggie was mentioned, Beth's eyes sparkled, and although tears still clung to her face, her smile was radiant.

Seeing that Beth was not as immersed in the pain of losing her family as in the original series, but instead had moved on.

Caesar smiled slightly. "Alright, I agree to let you join the training camp. I'll talk to your father about it."
