The Walking Dead: Starting as a Cowboy
Chapter 137 Winter is Coming!
As time went by, defensive lines were built outside the Bison Pass.
The trenches, filled with wooden stakes and iron bars, were very dense and difficult for the zombies to traverse given their mobility.
Behind them was a defensive line composed of abandoned vehicles and barbed wire.
Beyond that was a small slope of two or three meters, with wooden stakes reinforced with broken pieces on the surface. When the sunlight flashed by, the cold glint it reflected made one doubt its sharpness.
Preparations are complete.
Caesar was very satisfied with the fortifications.
After its last trip to Atlanta to gather supplies, Yellowstone now has no shortage of supplies and fuel for the winter.
Even if the people of Yellowstone don't step out of the valley all winter, no one will starve to death.
With the fortifications completed, all that was left was to await the arrival of the zombie horde.
During this time, Caesar also frequently sent Daryl along with Carol to scout out the movements of the walkers.
Each time Caesar returned from an outing, the report he received was that the zombie horde was advancing in the direction of Black Pine Valley.
This also confirms Dr. Jenner's theory.
Dr. Jenner followed Morales to the Yellowstone prison.
"Dr. Jenner, inside are the experimental materials the boss prepared for you."
Morales held out his hand, gesturing for Dr. Jenner to look ahead.
Dr. Jenner paused for a moment, then took two steps forward. Inside the iron prison were several people bound by ropes.
It was none other than the group of police officers from Grady Memorial Hospital.
"They are all yours now."
"What does this mean?" Dr. Jenner was a little confused. He remembered that the experimental subjects he asked Caesar for were normal people who were about to become zombies.
Morales looked at Dr. Jenner with surprise: "Isn't the material you wanted someone who's turning into a zombie?"
"Yes, none of these are either."
"You could just let them get bitten by walkers, then cut off their brains for experiments."
Morales explained it quite naturally.
Dr. Jenner's eyes widened. This was utterly inhumane.
Morales seemed to understand Dr. Jenner's thoughts and explained calmly, "Don't worry, none of them are good people here, they're all damned bastards."
"No matter what experiments you do, you'll still go to heaven when you die."
Dr. Jenner paused slightly, remained silent for a moment, then exhaled a breath of stale air. "Alright, I'll use them for experiments."
"As long as it meets your needs, that's fine."
Morales bowed and expressed his gratitude.
With the materials in hand, we can start experimenting like crazy.
Dr. Jenner looked up at the large amount of experimental material in front of her, her eyes gradually brightening, and a cruel smile curled at the corner of her mouth.
Hehe, I'm going to slice you all up and study you.
……
The zombie horde arrived as expected, reaching Blackpine Valley.
The densely packed zombies maintained a distance of about one meter from each other, moving loosely in one direction. The zombies covered every inch of land as far as the eye could see, stretching as far as the eye could see.
The horde of zombies ahead crashed right into the trap in front of Black Pine Valley. The zombies had no concept of retreat; they just charged forward headlong.
The zombie that had just fallen into the trench was instantly impaled by wooden stakes, and its limbs were also impaled by a dense array of wooden stakes.
It's like a candied hawthorn skewer with several wooden sticks stuck in it.
The pierced zombie was unable to move, but the zombies behind it continued to advance, stepping into the trench one by one.
The wooden stakes were sturdy enough to withstand the penetration of one zombie after another.
But when the number of zombies piled up on the wooden stakes reached a certain point, the zombies on top would directly crush the zombies below.
As the weight piled up layer by layer, the zombies on the wooden stakes began to slide down them, forcing the wounds on their bodies to widen until the zombies below were shattered into pieces.
The trench held back over a thousand zombies, whose body parts gradually filled the trench.
On the city wall, Caesar and his captains stood watching the zombies attack.
They were all dressed in robes covered in the blood and flesh of the zombies, so they didn't have to worry about attracting the zombies' attention.
Caesar asked, "Dr. Jenner, are you sure these walkers won't attack us?"
Dr. Jenner stated without hesitation, "I testify with my research career that these walkers will not attack us."
Caesar believed him.
"Let's go, leave the patrol team to watch over things, I'm going back to rest."
Caesar waved his hand and walked down the city wall.
A group of captains remained on the city wall, and Dr. Jenner, firmly believing in his theory, also left.
Glenn and the others looked at each other, hesitating whether to leave.
Moore was the first to move. "Watching a bunch of walkers commit suicide, how boring you guys are."
With that, Moore left.
Daryl patted Glenn on the shoulder and left.
Glenn's lips twitched, and he muttered, "Fuck, aren't you worried the walkers will actually attack?"
More and more zombies entered the trap; they had no brains, until the trench was filled with the corpses of their own kind.
They then walked into the second trap.
This trap further hindered the walkers' progress; they couldn't climb, and could only scratch at the barbed wire and abandoned vehicles.
The horde of zombies piled up toward the trap like a traffic jam.
A figure stopped in the horde of zombies. Unlike the zombies around her who kept moving forward, she had chains in her hands connecting two zombies who had lost their arms and jaws.
The figure stared at the tall city wall for a few moments, then turned and disappeared into the horde of corpses.
Several days later, a sufficient number of zombies pushed aside the trap, directly knocking over the abandoned vehicle.
But even after they crossed the third trap, they crashed headfirst into the wall of the Bison Pass.
The people of Huangshi are becoming increasingly unconcerned.
Because the walls of Yellowstone are incredibly thick, and given the weak physique of the zombies, there's only one way to get over them.
That is to use the corpses of their own kind to build a staircase leading upwards, so that the next group of their kind could directly cross the city wall.
That day, Caesar was having lunch, enjoying a warm and cozy moment with Amy.
There was a knock at the door. Caesar paused for a moment, then called out, "Come in."
Caesar picked up a clump of rice, stuffed it into his mouth, and looked at Morales as he entered the restaurant.
"What is it?"
Morales smiled broadly. "The walkers outside are leaving."
"There were too many of them. The zombies blocked the city gate in a huge circle, and the zombies behind them moved forward and left along the mountain wall."
The Buffalo Pass is like the mouth of a bottle, and the city gate is like a barrier built at the mouth of the bottle. When the number of zombies fills the gap between the mouth of the bottle and the barrier, the zombies behind will walk directly along the body of the bottle.
Caesar calmly nodded. "Understood."
Seeing Caesar's composure, Morales also suppressed his smile.
It seems the boss had anticipated this. He's the boss after all; I should stay calm.
With that thought in mind, Morales left the stone house.
Although Caesar's expression remained unchanged, he quickened his movements by picking up food with his chopsticks and shoveling rice into his mouth.
Amy glanced at Caesar and couldn't help but laugh, "If you're happy, just be happy, why can't you keep it to yourself?"
"Hahaha," Caesar said with a chuckle, "You have to maintain some mystery when you're out in the world."
Caesar relaxed and chatted with Amy while eating.
Caesar glanced out the window unintentionally.
Snowflakes drifted outside the window, stuck to the windowpane, and slowly melted away.
Caesar put down his chopsticks. "Winter is coming!"
