The Walking Dead: Starting as a Cowboy
Chapter 141 Extortion
Of course, the governor was greeted with applause and celebrations.
The governor, panting, patted the car and said to Martin, "Send the goods to Milton."
"Also, tell him that we're going to have a party in a while."
After saying this, the governor patted Martin on the shoulder and turned to continue to greet the cheers of the residents.
"Everyone, wait a moment."
Just as the convoy had left and the residents were about to disperse, the governor raised a hand, smiled, and called to the crowd.
"Governor, is there something you need?"
One of the old ladies asked.
The governor walked kindly to the old lady, helped her up, and deliberately lowered himself to say, "Grandma, there's good news, just listen."
Then, the governor straightened up and said solemnly:
"To celebrate Woodbury's continued existence, to celebrate the journey we've taken, and to celebrate the place we've built that we can call home, I've decided to throw a party."
The residents were stunned for a moment, then burst into a huge cheer.
The cheers were deafening, and everyone's face was filled with a dazed excitement as they mechanically clapped.
This is their first party since the apocalypse.
This inevitably drew their thoughts to the pre-apocalyptic world, and several sentimental women even shed tears, passionately shouting, "Governor, I love you!"
The governor smiled humbly and gestured with his hand, saying jokingly, "Thank you, I love myself too."
The laughter from the crowd grew even louder.
"In short, everyone get ready, and I hope we have a memorable and enjoyable party."
After the governor finished speaking loudly, he waved his hand to dismiss the crowd.
Suddenly, a gunshot rang out.
The governor turned around abruptly, drew his pistol from his waist, and looked at the guards at the main gate.
Several guards were so frightened that they immediately lay down, staring blankly at the direction from which the gunshots had come.
Not to mention them, the residents below also gasped in alarm, crouching low and screaming as they fled in a panic.
The governor asked loudly, "What's happening outside?"
"Shumpot, quickly evacuate the crowd and tell them to stay home and not come out," the governor ordered, looking at a burly black man with curly hair.
Shumpert and Martinez were both the governor's right-hand men.
Compared to Martin, Shumpert was much more composed, and immediately turned around to begin evacuating the crowd.
The governor strode up to the gate and looked out.
It turned out to be a group of burly men in military uniforms, looking fierce and menacing. They were carrying standard military weapons and driving two armored vehicles.
The heavy machine guns on the armored vehicles, gleaming coldly, were already aimed at the main gate.
Caesar, Daryl, Mohr, and several of his men stood in front of the armored vehicle, feigning anger on their faces.
The governor's eyelids twitched; this was clearly someone looking for trouble.
When he thought of anything related to the military, he could only think of one thing: the crashed helicopter he had just encountered.
The governor felt even more uneasy; they had just dragged back a few things when they came knocking on his door.
What a coincidence!
The governor set down his pistol, raised both hands, stood against the wall, and said with a smile, "Greetings, gentlemen. May I ask what brings you to Woodbury?"
Although he had realized that the other party was there to rob him, the governor did not want to provoke them directly.
Judging by that firepower, it might just shatter Woodbury.
Caesar smiled and gestured for More to come forward and speak.
Moore had a roguish air about him, and when he put on a military uniform, he looked like a thug who would deal in military weapons.
Moore stood to one side, legs slightly in front of each other, a cigar dangling from his lips, and shouted at the top of his lungs, "What are we here for?"
"Don't you understand?"
"Don't you remember who you killed before? What did you steal?"
Murder? Robbery?
The governor's eye twitched. What a joke! I've killed countless people and stolen countless things. Every time, I've eliminated all traces of the culprits.
The governor will not accept such ambiguity.
"I don't understand what you're talking about. We're just a group of people barely surviving in the apocalypse. We've never killed or robbed anyone. Everything we have is scavenged."
The governor spoke with great righteousness, but many residents in the small building behind him were craning their necks to watch the situation. He was not about to expose himself easily.
Moore chuckled, then his laughter grew increasingly wild, until he couldn't even straighten his back.
"You, Governor?"
"You can't kill? You probably don't know the reputation of the Woodbury Group in the Atlanta area. Any well-informed organization knows that the Woodbury Group is involved in widespread arson, murder, and looting..."
"I do not accept your slander." The governor, his face ashen, interrupted Moore's nonsense. "Just tell me what you're here for?"
As Mor opened his mouth, wanting to continue speaking, Caesar stepped forward and patted him on the shoulder.
This is the real deal.
The governor's gaze swept over Caesar.
Caesar looked at the governor and smiled slightly. "We've come to Woodbury to demand some compensation."
"What kind of compensation?"
"Just as I thought," the governor thought.
"You killed our people and stole our things; you must pay us back for everything."
Caesar said, glancing at Moore, "Bring the things over here."
The governor was determined to deny everything, saying, "I have never killed any of your people or taken anything from you. This is utter nonsense."
Moore and Daryl carried out a body, some guns, shell casings, and other items.
Caesar walked over to these things and gestured for the governor to look.
"Look, this is the most complete body of my comrade that I can collect. This morning, your Woodbury men attacked our camp, killed people, stole our guns and ammunition, and left evidence."
"These firearms and items can all be proven to be from you, Woodbury."
The governor's heart skipped a beat, his brow twitched, and an ominous premonition grew stronger.
Just from a distance, he knew that the guns were indeed from Woodbury, the ones he had robbed after luring the walkers to ambush and kill a group of people. Those items also belonged to some of his men.
Shumpert and his men around him also looked uneasy; they could all tell that the items came from Woodbury.
Shumpert walked up to the governor and asked in a low voice, "Governor, would you like me to take a closer look?"
The governor glanced at Shumpert, and his eyes revealed his determination.
The governor nodded in agreement.
Shumpert, accompanied by two others, scaled the wall above the gate and approached Caesar and his party.
The further she went, the greater the pressure on Shumpert became.
Mohr, Daryl, and the burly men standing around them had clearly never suffered much hardship. They were strong, ruddy-faced, and had calluses on their hands from frequent shooting. It was obvious that they were not people to be trifled with.
