The Cinnabar Mole of a Beijing Circle Tycoon
Chapter 31 Arrangements to be made immediately
On the morning of the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month, just as dawn was breaking, Meng Jiangyu had already finished his morning exercise.
Sweat soaked his black sports vest, outlining his smooth and firm muscle lines.
He took a shower, changed into clean pajamas, and glanced at the time; it was just past eight o'clock.
His feet unconsciously led him towards Shen Qingyao's room. He raised his hand and gently knocked on the door: "Yaoyao, are you awake?"
Inside the room, Shen Qingyao was fast asleep.
Last night's kiss was like a pebble thrown into a still lake, stirring her up and making her toss and turn until dawn before she finally understood what had happened.
Kissing between couples is a perfectly normal thing, there's no need to make a big deal out of it.
The more I thought about it, the clearer I became, and I finally drifted off to sleep in the middle of the night.
The knocking on the door pulled her out of her daze. She sat up groggily, her hair plastered messily to her cheeks, her eyes still somewhat glazed.
Almost simultaneously, the smart curtains on the wall slowly opened to both sides, and the morning light poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, instantly illuminating the entire room.
"Come in!"
Meng Jiangyu happened to push the door open and immediately saw the girl sitting on the bed.
Still sleepy-eyed, with a rosy blush on her cheeks, she looked like a kitten that wasn't fully awake yet.
His heart softened, and an unconcealable smile appeared in his eyes. He tiptoed over and said, "Awake? You look so groggy. Didn't you sleep well last night?"
Shen Qingyao blinked, and it took her a while to recognize him. Her voice was thick with a nasal tone: "Um... a little."
The two looked at each other, the air still seemed to hold the ambiguous atmosphere from last night's train carriage, but the previous restraint was gone.
Meng Jiangyu naturally bent down, his arms slipping under her knees and back: "Get up and wash up, I'll carry you over."
Shen Qingyao subconsciously wanted to nod, but then suddenly realized something, her cheeks flushed slightly, but she didn't refuse and obediently hugged his neck.
His embrace was steady, carrying a faint scent of shower gel that brought a sense of peace.
When they got to the bathroom, Meng Jiangyu placed her on a chair in front of the dressing table, then turned to squeeze toothpaste and get warm water, his movements as practiced as if he had done it a thousand times.
As Shen Qingyao watched his retreating figure, she suddenly felt that the scene was quite peculiar.
The man who was decisive and ruthless in the business world was now doing the most trivial things for her.
After washing up, Meng Jiangyu carried her downstairs and headed straight for the Western-style kitchen.
"What would you like to eat today? I'll make it for you." He opened the refrigerator door, revealing fresh ingredients neatly arranged inside.
"Anything is fine, yours will definitely taste good." Shen Qingyao sat on a high stool on one side of the island counter, watching him take the apron off the hook and tie it.
The black apron accentuated his upright posture, and the sleeves rolled up to his elbows revealed his smooth forearms, giving him an inexplicable sense of homeliness.
Meng Jiangyu began to get busy; the sizzling sound of frying eggs, the popping sound of the toaster, and the soft sound of boiling milk intertwined to create a warm morning prelude.
Shen Qingyao was so engrossed in watching that she suddenly felt the scene was too precious, so she quietly took out her phone and took a picture of his profile.
In the photo, the morning light falls on his focused face, the eggs on the frying pan have golden edges, and the background is a clean and bright kitchen. Every detail exudes the gentle warmth of everyday life.
"What are you filming?" Meng Jiangyu caught a glimpse of her movements out of the corner of his eye, turned around and glanced at her, a smile in his eyes.
"N-nothing," Shen Qingyao quickly put away her phone, her cheeks slightly flushed. "I just think... you look pretty like this."
Meng Jiangyu smiled and didn't ask any further questions. He put the fried sunny-side-up egg on a plate, toasted two slices of bread, spread her favorite strawberry jam on them, and finally brought over a glass of warm milk, placing them all in front of her: "Okay, try it."
The golden-brown fried egg was perfectly runny, the toast was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the strawberry jam had a perfect balance of sweet and sour. Shen Qingyao took a big bite, her eyes instantly lighting up: "Delicious! Even better than the breakfast shops outside!"
"Eat more if you like." Meng Jiangyu sat down opposite her, and seeing her satisfied expression, he also picked up a piece of toast and started eating.
The two would exchange a few words occasionally, but most of the time they would eat breakfast quietly, their eyes always unconsciously locked together.
The air was filled with a sweet, cloying aroma, like strawberry jam spread on toast, so thick it was almost overwhelming.
Sunlight streamed in through the kitchen window, falling warmly and brightly on the two of them.
Looking at the man in front of her, Shen Qingyao suddenly felt that perhaps this was what happiness was like.
No need for grand gestures, just the companionship of simple meals and the undisguised smiles in each other's eyes.
Halfway through breakfast, Meng Jiangyu wiped his mouth and suddenly said, "I'll take you to Tanzhe Temple later."
Shen Qingyao looked up at him, a hint of surprise in her eyes: "Tanzhe Temple?"
"Yes," Meng Jiangyu nodded, a gentle smile in his eyes, "I got you a good luck charm a while ago, and today is the perfect time to pray for it. I'll personally put the charm on you."
Shen Qingyao's heart stirred slightly, and the toast in her mouth suddenly tasted exceptionally sweet.
"Won't this be too much trouble?" she asked softly, but a sweet feeling welled up inside her.
"It's no trouble at all." Meng Jiangyu reached out and gently brushed her nose with his fingertips. "As long as you're safe and sound, it's all worth it, no matter how far I go."
Sunlight streamed through the kitchen blinds, casting dappled shadows on the back of his hand; the gentle touch seemed to linger on his nose.
Shen Qingyao lowered her head, quickly shoveled down a mouthful of milk to hide her burning cheeks, and whispered, "Okay."
After breakfast, the two went back to their room to change their clothes and then prepared to go out.
The crystal chandelier in the entryway cast a warm yellow light. Meng Jiangyu held the camel-colored cashmere coat in his hand, his fingertips brushing against the soft fabric.
Shen Qingyao stood in front of him, wearing the white sweater he had chosen, revealing her delicate collarbone at the neckline. A brown wool skirt hugged her figure, the hem of which fell above her knees, making her look gentle and dignified.
"Raise your hand." Meng Jiangyu's voice was low and gentle.
Shen Qingyao obediently raised her arms, and he casually draped his coat over her shoulders, his fingertips brushing against her neck, bringing a slightly itchy sensation.
He went around behind her and gently tied the belt around her waist, his movements as delicate as if he were handling a rare treasure.
Shen Qingyao looked down at her clothes. The wool skirt was of a delicate texture, and the coat was just the right length to her calves, making her figure look even more slender.
However, I can't see the full-body effect myself.
"I want to hang a huge full-length mirror on this wall."
"Okay, I'll arrange for someone to install it. We'll see it when we get back."
"Aren't you going to reconsider?"
"What's there to consider? You're the lady of the house, so your requests should naturally be met."
Meng Jiangyu took a step back, looked her up and down, and smiled with satisfaction: "Now I'll be your full-length mirror. You look beautiful."
Meng Jiangyu wore a black custom-made suit with clean lines that accentuated his tall and straight figure. He wore a black cashmere coat over the suit, with a corner of a white shirt peeking out from the collar, giving him a composed yet solemn look.
She raised her hand to straighten the lapel of Meng Jiangyu's coat, and when she looked up, she met Meng Jiangyu's smiling eyes. He reached out and tucked a stray hair behind her ear: "Let's go."
The two walked out of the entrance hall side by side, their leather shoes and boots making a crisp sound as they hit the floor.
