The Cinnabar Mole of a Beijing Circle Tycoon
Chapter 72 Whose Bonus Do They Want to Withhold?
The leather seat sank in a corner as he looked down at the project proposal in his hand, his long eyelashes casting a cold, hard shadow beneath his eyes.
His brows furrowed more and more tightly, and as his fingertips traced the inflated data, a chilling icy glint appeared in his eyes.
"Jason," he pressed the phone button, his voice low but with a penetrating, icy intensity, "have the project manager come to my office immediately."
Jason's heart skipped a beat. He knew something was wrong from Meng Jiangyu's voice, and he quickly replied, "Yes."
Within three minutes, the project manager arrived with Jason.
They stood in front of the desk, their backs ramrod straight, their heads bowed low, barely daring to breathe loudly, yet their eyes couldn't help but dart towards the project documents on the desk, their legs trembling.
Meng Jiangyu didn't look up, his fingertips still pressed against the page, and after a long while he finally raised his eyes and glanced at everyone.
Those deep eyes were as dark as a bottomless, icy pool, sending chills down the spines of the group.
"This report," he said calmly, without a trace of emotion, "does it think I'm blind, or that the Meng family's money comes from nowhere?"
Shen Qingyao was engrossed in reading a novel when Meng Jiangyu's indifferent voice caught her attention.
Shen Qingyao, who was reclining on the sofa, overheard the entire conversation. She had never heard Meng Jiangyu's voice so cold before, so she was naturally intrigued.
She held a romance novel in her hand, not turning a single page for a long time, but her dark eyes secretly glanced towards the desk, secretly watching Meng Jiangyu's cold face as he scolded people.
Shen Qingyao pretended to be engrossed in her book, but her ears perked up even more.
Meng Jiangyu's words made the person in charge turn pale instantly, cold sweat streaming down his forehead and soaking the back of his shirt.
He hurriedly bowed, his voice trembling, "Mr. Meng, I'm so sorry! It was our oversight that we didn't do a thorough enough check..."
"The verification was not thorough enough?" Meng Jiangyu interrupted him, standing up from his seat.
He was tall and imposing, looking down at the group. His brows furrowed sharply, his eyes as cold as sharpened blades. "A decimal point error can cost the company nearly a hundred million. Your 'laxity' is an attempt to make the Meng family pay for your negligence?"
The person in charge blushed deeply, lowered his head even further, twisted the hem of his shirt in his hands, and sweat dripped down his forehead: "President Meng, we know we were wrong! We'll go back and recalculate immediately, work overtime tonight, and definitely submit the accurate data!"
"Working overtime all night?" Meng Jiangyu sneered, a mocking smile curving his thin lips. "What I want are results, not your hard work. Meng Corporation employs you to get things done, not to waste my time with incorrect data."
"Please be more professional! I'm not stupid! This company isn't a charity!"
"Mr. Meng, please give us another chance. I promise this will never happen again!"
An increasingly oppressive atmosphere filled the office. The person in charge turned pale and apologized repeatedly, fearing that Meng Jiangyu would fire him at any moment.
"I'm giving you another week. Please use your brilliant minds to give me a professional project proposal!"
"Okay! Thank you, Mr. Meng, for giving us this opportunity!"
"You can leave now!" Meng Jiangyu's cold voice rang out again.
The project manager, his back soaked with sweat, followed Jason out of the office.
Shen Qingyao poured a cup of Pu'er tea from the coffee table and placed it in front of Meng Jiangyu. "Brother, you're so fierce!"
Meng Jiangyu tossed the project proposal aside, and looking at the young girl in front of him, the coldness in his eyes melted away, replaced by gentle ripples.
Meng Jiangyu took the teacup, his tone softening, a stark contrast to his previous demeanor, "Did I scare you just now?"
Shen Qingyao shook her head. "No, I've just never seen you lose your temper!"
Meng Jiangyu took a sip of tea and put down the teacup.
"I won't be mean to you!" Meng Jiangyu pulled Shen Qingyao into his arms.
"Honey, I didn't hire him for twice the market price to play house. He has to fulfill his responsibilities in his position." Meng Jiangyu played with Shen Qingyao's fingers.
"How much does he make a month?" Shen Qingyao asked curiously.
"He gets an annual salary of tens of millions!"
"So many!" Shen Qingyao exclaimed, her mouth agape in shock.
Meng Jiangyu's chest pressed against Shen Qingyao's back, bringing a comforting warmth.
He freed one hand, his slender fingers hooking open the top drawer of his desk, and took out a misty blue velvet box.
He gently placed the box in his palm, and with a soft click, the lid popped open, revealing the white diamond bracelet lying quietly on the velvet lining, its delicate light flowing along the chain.
He held Shen Qingyao's wrist, the cool chain against her skin, the silver clasp gently closing and causing a slight tickle.
Shen Qingyao looked down at the bracelet on her wrist, the smile on her lips impossible to hide. She turned and kissed him on the jawline.
As the soft touch landed, Meng Jiangyu's Adam's apple bobbed. He lowered his head, bit the corner of her lips, and chuckled softly, "You like it that much?"
Shen Qingyao was still playing with the delicate chain of her bracelet when she heard Meng Jiangyu's words. She tilted her head back and nuzzled his chin, her voice soft and sweet: "I like surprises."
Meng Jiangyu chuckled softly, pinching her earlobe with his fingertips. His gaze fell on the small diamonds on her wrist, a subtle smile playing in his eyes: "I'm glad you like it."
He paused, raised his hand, and brushed his fingertips across the corner of her lips. "This kiss was so insincere."
"Hmm!" Shen Qingyao tilted her head back. "What do you mean by lacking sincerity?"
Before he finished speaking, his kiss landed, carrying a cool, refreshing scent, light and gentle, yet so intense it took his breath away.
Shen Qingyao's hands unconsciously wrapped around his neck, the rhinestones on her wrist brushing against his shirt collar.
After a while, Shen Qingyao nestled in Meng Jiangyu's arms, inhaling the familiar scent of cedarwood. "Baby, you've learned to breathe properly, that's great!"
Shen Qingyao half-closed her eyes, humming and whimpering, ignoring him.
Jason knocked on the door, and Shen Qingyao was so frightened that she hid under the desk. Meng Jiangyu couldn't help but laugh when he saw the little girl like this.
"Come in!" Immediately, Meng Jiangyu looked up and stared at Jason as he entered.
"Mr. Meng, we have ten minutes left before the quarterly summary meeting."
"Okay, you go down first, I'll be down in a bit!"
"OK!"
Meng Jiangyu pushed his chair back two steps and helped Shen Qingyao up. "Baby, you're making us look like we're having an affair!"
"How embarrassing would it be if Jason saw this!" Shen Qingyao sat on Meng Jiangyu's lap.
"If I don't speak, he won't come in!" Meng Jiangyu said, supporting Shen Qingyao's waist.
"Honey, I'm going to a meeting!"
"Mmm!" Meng Jiangyu put Shen Qingyao on the sofa and covered her with a blanket.
The office door closed slowly, and Meng Jiangyu's footsteps disappeared completely. Only the faint sound of the central air conditioning running and Shen Qingyao's breathing remained in the office.
An hour later, Shen Qingyao woke up, and the blackout curtains in the office were slowly drawn open.
Shen Qingyao sat up; Meng Jiangyu's meeting wasn't over yet.
She idly swung her legs, her gaze falling on the large, genuine leather boss's chair behind the desk.
When Meng Jiangyu was sitting there just now, his back was straight, his eyes were cold and stern, and he exuded a sense of oppression that kept strangers at bay.
She rolled her eyes, walked over, touched the cold handrail, and then stood on tiptoe to sit down.
Meng Jiangyu, who is 190 cm tall, fits perfectly in the seat.
The chair was so large that it enveloped her entirely, and still carried a trace of Meng Jiangyu's cool, cedar scent.
Shen Qingyao imitated him, straightening her back, clearing her throat, casually pulling a document from the table and unfolding it. Her fingertips tapped lightly on the paper, and she lowered her voice to mimic his cold tone:
"This report," she deliberately lowered her voice, mimicking his furrowed brow and sending a deliberately sharp glance across the empty office, "does it think I'm blind, or that the Meng family's money is so easy to swindle?"
As she spoke, she slammed her fingertips on the table with a loud "smack," which was quite intimidating.
"Lax verification?" She raised an eyebrow, mimicking Meng Jiangyu's earlier sneer, a mocking smile playing on her lips. "A decimal point error can cause the company to lose hundreds of millions! Are you planning to make the Meng family pay for your negligence with your 'laxity'?"
She got more and more into her performance, then grabbed a pen from the table, twirled it awkwardly with her fingertips, and, with a stern face, lectured the air: "Working overtime all night? I want results, not your hard work! Meng's employs you to get things done, not to waste my time with incorrect data!"
"I'm not stupid, and the company isn't a charity!"
Finally, she couldn't help but burst out laughing, swinging her leg and humming, "Hmph, if you dare make a mistake again, I'll deduct three months' bonus! All of it!"
"Whose bonus do you want to deduct?"
