Chapter 21 Derek's Thoughts

"Why didn't you tell the regiment when you were attacked?" Olsen asked.

Karen shook her head and said, "It happened so suddenly that I had no idea who the other person was, or even their supernatural profession."

There's no useful information; reporting it will only increase the workload for the unit.

Upon hearing this, Olsen looked at Karen's determined eyes and no longer had any concerns.

He trusted Karen's judgment.

"Captain Derek," Olsen turned to Derek, his tone serious, "I think Karen's discovery deserves serious consideration."

I suggested we immediately begin our investigation in the direction he indicated.

Derek's face darkened, and he said bluntly, "Olsen, is your chapter going to lead this investigation?"

Don't forget, the main party responsible for this case is our Knights!

I can't waste manpower on pointless tracking just because of a newcomer's intuition!

The atmosphere at the scene immediately became tense.

Derek's attitude was very tough.

In his view, Karen was nothing more than a spoiled brat who had managed to get into the war group by virtue of his noble status and a bit of luck.

Even though the incident of the sacred artifact being switched had caused quite a stir, he didn't think a mere kid could accomplish anything in such a murder case.

So-called intuition is utter nonsense!

He cannot tolerate a battle group, especially a newcomer, challenging his authority as the person in charge on site.

For a moment, the expressions on the faces of everyone in the battle group were not good.

One of the team members spoke up: "Captain Derek, although Karen is young, we have all witnessed his abilities!"

He said if there's been a discovery, then it's worth investigating!

Another team member added coldly, "It's better than some people just standing here. Do you think clues or the killer will just hand themselves over?"

Upon hearing this, Derek and the knights behind him glared angrily and immediately placed their hands on their weapons.

The situation escalated rapidly, and a conflict seemed imminent.

Olsen raised his hand to stop his teammates. He stared at Derek and said in a deep voice, "Captain Derek, we all have the same goal: to solve the case as soon as possible and eliminate the panic."

Since there are no other clear leads at the moment, why not try the direction Karen pointed out?

What if we make a discovery?

Derek snorted coldly, still relentlessly pressing on: "What if? If the pursuit yields nothing, who will bear the responsibility for the wasted time and manpower?"

Olsen, are you going to vouch for this newcomer's nonsense?

He directly brought up the responsibility for the case, attempting to make Olsen, who was representing the battle group at that moment, back down.

Seeing this, Karen, who was standing to the side, stopped being silent.

He stepped forward, looked calmly at Derek, and said, "Captain Derek, if the direction I've pointed out doesn't yield results, I'm willing to take full responsibility."

But what if you actually find something?

His meaning was clear: at this point, there was absolutely no room for backing down.

Derek looked at Karen's calm and seemingly genuine gaze, and his heart began to waver.

Could this kid really have some special ability?

But he was clearly only a Tier 1 warrior.

Just then, Adams Gill, the Order Keeper squad leader who had been silently observing the traces at the scene, suddenly spoke up: "Guys, I found some traces on the ground outside that alley."

It looks like a barely noticeable drag mark.

As the leader of the order maintainers, his words naturally attracted everyone's attention.

When Derek looked at the alley, he was shocked to find that it was the direction Karen had initially pointed!

Olsen perked up and looked at Derek: "Now there are two leads pointing in that direction. Do you still want to stick to your point of view?"

Derek's expression shifted rapidly for a moment.

Adams' discovery made it impossible for him to grit his teeth and persevere any longer. After all, the Order Keepers were a very special force in the city, and he did not want to offend them easily.

But his dissatisfaction with Karen and the Warband was even greater, feeling that they were deliberately trying to embarrass him.

"Fine! Since you insist, then we'll each conduct our own investigations!" Derek said curtly. "Since you trust your newcomer, then you can investigate in the direction he points out!"

Our Knights will remain on-site to maintain communication and provide support to other areas, lest everyone be led astray by an uncertain lead!

His words seemed reasonable, but in reality, he was pushing the most uncertain and somewhat dangerous investigation task onto the battle group, while he himself chose to stay behind for the relatively safe and secure option.

Moreover, if the warband does make any discoveries, the Knights, as the main party responsible for the case, will naturally deserve credit as well.

If nothing is gained, it is a misjudgment by the warband and has nothing to do with his knightly order.

Olsen gave Derek a deep look, seeing right through the latter's thoughts.

But he knew now was not the time to dwell on that.

Solving the case is the priority.

"Okay, we'll do it your way." Olsen readily agreed. "Our chapter will be responsible for tracking this lead, but I want each squad to maintain signal communication."

Once a discovery is made, signal it immediately.

"Of course, but I hope you don't waste your efforts."

Derek snorted coldly and led his knights to disperse on the spot, adopting an attitude of waiting for the outcome.

Seeing this, the Order Keepers team and the Mage Association team also started from the scene and expanded their investigation in different directions.

For a moment, only the Knights remained in place.

Olsen ignored Derek and turned to Karen, saying, "Karen, lead the way."

Everyone, please remain vigilant and pay attention to your surroundings.

At the same time, Karen took a deep breath.

He knew that the faint, intermittent aura captured by the mysterious runes might be nothing to ordinary superhumans.

But in his eyes, they were like fireflies in the darkness, faint yet able to guide him.

He concentrated, enduring the stinging pain in his right eye from continuously activating the mysterious runes, and led the battle squad into the dark alley near Queen Street.

Following Karen's directions, the warband squad left the main street of Queen Street and turned into the intricate network of alleyways.

The buildings here are crowded and dilapidated, with walls covered in stains and graffiti.

The air was filled with the sour smell of rotting garbage.

Compared to the bustling Queen Street not far away, this place seems like another world in the city, a corner rarely touched by sunlight.

As soon as they entered the alley, Olsen and the other three members of the warband formed a defensive formation, protecting Karen in the middle.

Their expressions were serious, and their hands remained on their weapons.

In this environment, unexpected situations may arise at any time.

Karen walked at the front of the group.

He moved slowly, occasionally stopping and closing his eyes slightly, as if carefully sensing something.

His brow furrowed slightly, for the lingering chill was indeed very faint and intermittent, as if it might dissipate into the chaotic atmosphere of the city at any moment.

If it weren't for the extremely special mysterious runes deep within his right eye, it would have been impossible for them to be detected.

"Turn left here!"

At that moment, Karen suddenly whispered.

He pointed to a narrow alleyway not far away, piled high with discarded wooden crates.
