Baron Cullen

Chapter 22 The Hidden Entrance

Olsen made a gesture, and the squad silently turned around.

A member of the battle group carefully used his sword sheath to clear away the debris blocking the alleyway.

"To the right front, the doorway with the old iron sign hanging there—the aura I sense points there," Karen instructed again.

The crowd looked and discovered that it was an entrance that had been almost forgotten.

The door was crooked, and the rusty lettering on the iron plaque was long since blurred.

As the team ventured deeper into the area, the surrounding environment became increasingly remote and even darker.

The members of the battle group also began to feel a little apprehensive.

Although they trusted Karen, they still found her almost prophetic tracking methods somewhat incomprehensible.

This path is getting further and further astray; is it really possible to find any clues?

Only Olsen, with his seasoned experience, vaguely sensed something unusual.

He discovered that although Karen's chosen route was winding, it seemed to avoid all places where she might be seen or where ambushes could be set up.

Moreover, they have been moving closer to the unmanaged corners of the city.

This doesn't seem like a charade.

"stop!"

At that moment, Karen suddenly raised her hand.

The team immediately stopped and cautiously observed their surroundings.

They were at the end of a dead end.

In front of them was a thick-looking brick wall covered with slippery moss, and next to it were some construction waste piled up, all of which looked normal.

"Karen, there's no road here."

A young team member couldn't help but speak, his tone tinged with disappointment.

After walking for so long, could it really be a waste of effort as Derek said?

Karen did not answer.

He walked straight to the brick wall, the mysterious runes deep within his right eye still swirling slightly.

From that peculiar perspective, the almost dissipated aura finally disappeared into the wall in front of them.

He reached out and carefully felt around on the wall, feeling a damp, sticky sensation.

The rest of the band stood silently behind him, patiently waiting while keeping watch on their surroundings.

"Got it!"

Soon, Karen found an extremely inconspicuous yet abrupt depression, as if it had been artificially carved out.

He pressed gently against the indentation, and immediately felt an extremely subtle loosening sensation on his fingertips!

"There's a trap here!" Karen said in a deep voice.

Olsen immediately stepped forward.

He carefully examined the location Karen pointed to, and as an experienced warrior, he quickly noticed something amiss.

Those were not natural rainwater erosion, but rather man-made and carefully disguised cracks.

He gestured for Karen to step back, then gathered his extraordinary elements in his hands, placed his palm next to the loose brick, and pushed hard!

boom!

A slight whirring sound of a mechanism turning was heard, followed by a sound like stones rubbing together.

The next moment, to everyone's astonishment, a section of the seemingly solid brick wall slowly rotated inward, revealing a dark, downward-extending opening!

At this moment, the members of the battle group stood in front of the cave entrance, their initial excitement quickly replaced by shock and solemnity.

They all noticed the stench of decay and blood emanating from the cave entrance!

Olsen peered into the cave with a grave expression and said, "I didn't expect there to be a sewer entrance here!"

However, this entrance appears to have been abandoned for many years.

A narrow stone staircase, barely wide enough for one person to walk on, led down into the deep darkness below, and faint weeping could be heard coming from the depths.

At this moment, everyone understood.

The killer of the Queen Street massacre is very likely hiding right here!

Olsen looked at Karen, his eyes filled with shock and admiration.

This young man actually found such a hidden place by relying on that mysterious intuition!

"Send a signal to the Knights, the Mage Guild, and the Order Keepers," he ordered swiftly.

The signal flare soared into the sky with a sharp whistling sound, exploding into a bright burst of the battle group insignia against the gray sky.

The light was clearly visible even in daylight, enough to attract the attention of people several blocks away.

In the dead end, Olsen and his team continued to keep watch.

Each person gripped their weapon tightly, staring intently at the dark sewer entrance, like hunters facing a beast's lair.

The faint sounds coming from below made everyone tense.

Time passed slowly, and members of the Mage Association and the Order Keepers quickly arrived.

But the Knights did not appear for a long time.

"Damn it! Where are the Knights? What are Derek and the others doing?" Olsen asked anxiously.

Even if a second round of search is launched, the Knights cannot be too far from the scene and cannot possibly miss the signal flare.

Even if it's necessary to gather manpower, this time is sufficient.

Just then, a series of disordered but not hurried footsteps came from the alleyway entrance, and Derek led his squad of knights slowly over.

"Olsen, have you found a clue?" Derek walked closer, his gaze sweeping over the conspicuous sewer entrance, a complex look flashing in his eyes.

Olsen wanted to get angry, but he suppressed his emotions because he was on a mission.

He pointed to the sewer entrance in front of him and said coldly, "Karen led us here. There's a smell of blood down there. I suspect the murderer in this case is very likely hiding down there."

Derek leaned closer to the entrance and sniffed.

Immediately, the stench of blood and decay made his face change drastically, and he couldn't help but take two steps back.

He looked at the entrance in front of him, his eyes flickering.

Originally, I just wanted to see the warband make a fool of itself, but I didn't expect that the other side would actually find a suspicious clue.

But he must get a share of the credit.

With this in mind, Derek quickly calculated the situation and then looked at the captains of the three squads, including Olson, asking, "So what's the plan now? Who will lead the charge?"

Upon hearing this, members of all three factions, including the battle group, looked at him as if he were an idiot.

Ultimately, the Knights were primarily responsible for the Queen Street murder case, and these individuals were merely assisting in the investigation.

However, now, the leader of the Knights is asking such a question.

It's simply unbelievable.

Karen, who was standing to the side, didn't say anything, but he could see it clearly.

Derek did this simply because, as before, he was unwilling to take on the risks that might come with being the first to charge into battle.

"Here's an idea," Derek continued, "The warbands and the Order Keepers should take the lead, since you're good at handling these kinds of supernatural events."

The Mage Association then entered to provide them with remote support.

Our knightly order is responsible for the crucial rearguard action; after all, if we were to be flanked from behind after entering, we would all perish here.

These words stunned almost everyone else.
