Chapter 157 Building a Snowman
Time slips away quietly, and the setting sun gradually dips westward, dyeing the sky a warm, orange-red hue.
After sleeping for a whole day, Wang Yuyu finally woke up fully and was full of energy.
He slowly stood up, lowered his head and rubbed his cheeks with the cold snow, then stuck out his tongue to carefully lick his messy fur, grooming himself clean before looking up at the tightly closed iron gate, his amber eyes full of anticipation.
But the iron gate remained completely still, without making a sound.
He lowered his eyes slightly, and the tips of his ears drooped down as he comforted himself, "It's getting dark, Tang Li must be busy with work. She'll definitely come to see me when she's done."
He strolled slowly across the snow, occasionally raising his paws and twisting his waist to loosen his muscles and bones, which had become stiff from sleeping for too long.
After all, she still needed to thoroughly inspect the territory that the zoo had designated for her that night, and she needed to figure out exactly how large it was.
After moving around for a while, he returned to the iron gate, gazing longingly at the gate panel. The expectation in his eyes faded somewhat, and he couldn't help but wonder:
"Why haven't you come to see me yet? Have you forgotten about me?"
He simply leaned forward, pressed his ear against the iron gate, and carefully tried to discern the sounds behind it.
He heard a jumble of voices, low growls from animals, and the soft clatter of tools coming from behind the door, but there was no sound of Tang Li, whom he longed for.
"Sigh!" Wang Yu sighed heavily, looked up at the surveillance camera above her head, deliberately put on a wronged look, as if she was complaining to the camera, and then left the iron gate with a dejected wag of her tail and looking back every few steps.
He hopped and skipped around in the open space, sometimes grabbing at the snowflakes falling from the sky, sometimes digging at the snowdrifts with his paws. After entertaining himself for a short while, he got bored and obediently lay back down on the snow, tilting his big head and staring intently at the iron gate, hoping that Tang Li would appear.
After waiting for a long time, the iron gate remained motionless.
Wang Yuyu couldn't lie still any longer. She had slept too long during the day and was now wide awake, with no energy to release.
He suddenly jumped up from the ground, his eyes lighting up as he looked at the thick snow beneath his feet: "How about we build a snowman!"
Without hesitation, Wang Yuyu immediately took action.
Although he was a tiger, and his claws were not as nimble as human hands, he was quick-witted and had plenty of ideas.
He quickly ran into the nearby woods, searched for a while, and then ran back to the open space behind the gate with two rounder stones in his mouth, placing them steadily in a spot with thick snow.
He crouched down in front of the rock and carefully used his two front paws to gather the surrounding snow onto the rock and squeeze it towards the center. The thick snow quickly enveloped the rock, forming a snow cake that bulged in the middle.
Wang Yuyu then repeatedly patted and pressed the snow cake with her paws, slowly shaping it into a small, somewhat irregular snowball.
After setting up the base, he extended one of his front paws and pressed it onto the small snowball, then slowly rolled it clockwise on the snow, allowing the snowball to gradually fill with snow and grow bigger.
When the snowball gets too big to be controlled with one paw, he immediately extends his other paw and squeezes the snowball from both sides toward the middle, compacting the attached snow and making the snowball more compact.
Once the snowball had been compressed to a smaller size, he switched to one paw and continued rolling it, repeating this several times until the snowball was so compacted that it could no longer be compressed. Only then did he stand up and use his front paws to push the snowball as it rolled on the snow, letting it grow bigger and bigger.
At this moment, in the security room at the back gate, Uncle Zhang had just woken up. He sat in front of the monitor screen with a thermos cup in his hand, slowly scanning the situation in various parts of the zoo, preparing to start his night shift.
As his gaze swept across the surveillance footage at the back door, he saw Wang Yu running back and forth between the various cameras and couldn't help but mutter in disbelief, "What's this guy with a secure job doing? He's still injured in his hind leg, running around like this, isn't he afraid of aggravating his wound?"
He quickly pulled up all the surveillance footage from the back door area. When he saw Wang Yuyu squatting in the snow playing with snowballs, he couldn't help but spit out a mouthful of hot water.
"Holy crap! Is this 'iron rice bowl' mentality just snowballing?"
Uncle Zhang's eyes widened as he stared intently at the screen, his voice filled with disbelief, "A tiger can actually build snowballs?"
He stared intently at Wang Yuyu on the monitor, watching the snowball roll bigger and bigger under his paws, from the size of half a tiger's head to half a person's height, and finally had to accept this fact.
Uncle Zhang slumped back in his chair, watching the figure running around pushing a snowball on the screen, and chuckled, "I'd heard Xiao Tang say that this guy with the 'iron rice bowl' (guaranteed job) is really smart, but I never imagined he'd be this smart! He can even make snowballs, no wonder it's called an 'iron rice bowl'!"
He smiled and shook his head, his gaze returning to the screen, where the snowball had grown taller than Wang Yuyu's body.
Uncle Zhang couldn't help but worry, muttering, "It's piled up so big, what if I don't hold it steady and get crushed? My hind leg isn't fully healed yet!"
As he spoke, he quickly took out his phone and dialed Tang Li's number.
Behind the iron gate, in the open space, Wang Yuyu looked at the snowball in front of him, which was taller than himself. Excitedly, he wagged his tail, circled the snowball twice, and growled twice as if in celebration: "Hahaha, it's so much bigger! Keep going, make it even bigger!"
Because his right hind leg was injured and he couldn't exert any force, he lowered his head and used his head to push the snowball forward, while carefully controlling the direction with his two front paws, moving the snowball step by step towards the center of the open space.
After receiving Uncle Zhang's call, Tang Li immediately put down what she was doing and rushed to the back door. The moment she pushed open the iron gate, her eyes widened in disbelief.
The snowball was almost as tall as her, standing round and upright in the open space. Wang Yuyu was pressed against the snowball, using her head to push herself forward. Her muscles bulged slightly from the effort, making it look extremely strenuous.
"A secure job!" Tang Li's heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly shouted.
Upon hearing the sound, Wang Yuyu suddenly looked up and gazed towards the iron gate. The moment she saw Tang Li, her amber eyes lit up.
"Watch out! The snowball is coming!" Tang Li's pupils shrank. Without Wang Yuyu's support, the large snowball used the terrain to roll back and head straight for him, who was completely unprepared.
Before she finished speaking, she rushed towards the snowball.
Wang Yu reacted instantly, hurriedly lowering his head and using his head to brace against the snowball, using his front paws to push off the ground, barely managing to stabilize the enormous creature.
Tang Li lunged at the snowball and held on tightly until it came to a complete stop, then let out a heavy sigh of relief, her back already covered in a layer of cold sweat.
She turned her head and glared at Wang Yuyu at her feet, gently kicking his front paw: "Get out of the way, I'll move!"
Wang Yu obediently jumped to the side, shook her slightly sore neck, and watched as Tang Li used all her strength to push the snowball step by step onto the flat open ground and stabilize it.
