Dragon Raja: Lu Mingfei's War Journey
Chapter 52 Patrol and Bear Cookies
Nono led Susie through the Andes Mountains. This time, they had plenty of food, strong mixed-race physiques, and professional equipment and maps. They arrived at the crash site in just three days.
Decades have erased most of the traces, but Nono still managed to find the exact location of the wreckage based on her memory.
Nono crouched down and dug through the snow on the ground, and soon she could see the metal skin of the plane.
"This is the place. After the plane crash, he and I spent more than ten days here with other survivors," Nono said softly.
Susie looked around at the snow-covered hillside, finding it hard to imagine the horrific survival story that had unfolded there years ago.
Soon, a high-pitched chanting sound rang out from Nono's mouth without warning. It was not any language known to humankind, and the syllables were strange and difficult to pronounce, with a primitive rhythm.
Susie was surprised to see that as the chanting continued, the air around Nono began to heat up and distort visibly, and clusters of orange-red flames appeared out of thin air, like loyal elves, jumping and spinning around her joyfully.
The flames spread rapidly, forming a blazing ring of fire that encircled a large area of snow around Nono, cleverly avoiding the spot where she and Susie were standing.
The ice and snow melted rapidly under the high temperature, hissing and steaming up large amounts of white vapor, exposing more debris.
Susie was shocked by the sight. Was this Nono's awakened Word of Power? It had only been awakened for a short time, yet it already possessed such power.
Soon, under the domineering cleansing of the Word Spirit Blaze, most of the twisted and deformed aircraft cabin reappeared in the sunlight.
"Let's go in and take a look." Nono stopped chanting, and the flames around her immediately dissipated before she entered the half of the cabin.
The cabin was surprisingly clean, with no messy suitcases or corpses. It had been cleaned up so thoroughly that it was abnormally clean. However, there were still grayish-brown bloodstains on the floor and cabin walls, testifying to what had happened back then.
"The Enforcement Bureau handled this very well; they cleaned up the mess thoroughly," Susie said softly as she followed behind.
Nono didn't answer. Her fingertips brushed over the dark brown splatter marks on the bulkhead. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and initiated the profiling.
Memories flooded her mind once more; she seemed to smell the thick stench of blood again, and she saw Lu Mingfei once more.
The boy, like a demon, brandished a kitchen knife and wreaked havoc inside the cabin, but she felt no fear whatsoever; instead, she felt a sense of security.
Nono opened her eyes and said to Susie, who was looking around the cabin, "Let's go."
"So soon? Aren't you going to take another look at the traces from back then?" Susie said in surprise.
She now completely believed what Nono said. Although such a thing was really too incredible, dragons exist in this world, so such a thing seemed to have a certain rationality.
"No, there's nothing to see here," Nono said, shaking her head. The place had been completely cleaned up, so there was no point in continuing to look.
"Where do we go now?" Susie continued to ask.
Nono didn't reply, but just looked at the huge mountain outside the cabin.
The two soon began climbing the mountain. They had professional crampons and climbing equipment, but the climb was still quite difficult.
Nono found it hard to imagine how Lu Mingfei managed to climb up there on an empty stomach, without any climbing equipment, and while carrying someone on his back.
By the time Nono and Susie reached the summit, the sun was almost setting.
"It's so beautiful..." Susie was stunned by the orange sunset shining on the endless snow-capped mountains.
Nono was stunned by the sight, but quickly recovered and said, "Let's go back."
"Are you going back to that village to continue waiting for your little boyfriend?" Susie asked with a teasing smile, turning her gaze away from the beautiful scenery, trying to lighten the mood.
"No, back to Kassel," Nono said calmly.
"What? You're not waiting for him?" Susie said, somewhat surprised.
"Hmph... I made a mistake. When he came back, he was just an ordinary poor student, and he might even have mental problems. How could he possibly have the money to come to Chile..." Nono said with a wry smile.
When Lu Mingfei carried her away from the snow mountain, he was so reliable. His figure seemed to be able to carry the whole world. He was so reliable that she forgot that Lu Mingfei was just a student, a poor student wearing faded short-sleeved shirts and shorts. Where would he get the money to come to such a far place?
"So what do we do next?" Susie asked.
"We'll figure something out when we get back to Kassel. There are more resources and information channels there. We can use Norma to search the global population database and leverage the Executive Bureau's network... There's always a way. I won't give up. I will definitely find him!" Nono said firmly.
"I understand, don't worry, I'll help you," Susie said from the side.
The two began packing their things to prepare to go down the mountain, but before they went down, Nono went to the edge of the cliff, took a deep breath, and then shouted loudly.
"Lu Mingfei! No matter where you are, I will find you!"
Nuonuo's shouts echoed among the peaks, repeating the same phrase over and over again.
"Let's go. We need to find a place to rest before it gets completely dark." After shouting this, Nono turned around decisively and said to Susie.
The two then began their descent down the mountain.
-----------------
Meanwhile, in that small coastal town, Lu Mingfei was wearing a security guard uniform and patrolling inside the Golden Banquet. Of course, no one asked him to wear a security guard uniform, nor did anyone ask him to patrol.
However, Lu Mingfei felt that since he had signed a contract and received the money, he should get things done, and the security guard should do his job.
He needed money but didn't want to get involved with these thugs, so this conscientious work was the best way to distance himself from them and make his stance clear.
However, just as Yang Boxuan said, he basically didn't have much to do. Most of the small tasks could be handled by the other people in the venue. He would come here after school every day, patrol once an hour, and leave work promptly at three o'clock in the morning.
"Brother Lu, would you like a drink?" A member of the Black Snake Gang, dressed in a suit, warmly invited Lu Mingfei over for a drink.
"No, I still have to patrol," Lu Mingfei shook his head and refused. Today was his seventh day working as a security guard here, and he had already gotten to know most of the people inside.
"Brother Lu is really dedicated!" Another young man, also dressed in a suit and with a more amiable appearance, smiled and approached, holding an opened bag of bear-shaped cookies.
"Hey, Brother Lu, have some biscuits to tide you over. Patrolling is quite tiring."
Lu Mingfei didn't stand on ceremony when he saw the bear-shaped cookies. He grabbed one and put it in his mouth. Eating cookies wouldn't affect his patrol. The sweetness of the bear-shaped cookies filled his mouth, making him relax a little.
As expected, security guards and bear cookies are the perfect match.
"Brother Lu, you'll be off duty after one more patrol, right?" the young man in black holding the bear-shaped biscuits said with a smile.
"Yeah, I get off work at three." Lu Mingfei picked up another bear-shaped cookie and mumbled a reply.
This routine gave him a strange sense of peace; by day, he played the role of an ordinary student studying hard at school, and by night, he played the role of a dutiful security guard here.
Every day is like a precise copy: going to class, leaving school, patrolling, eating bear-shaped cookies, getting off work, and then waking up to continue the cycle. There are no sudden life-or-death crises, no moral choices that require testing one's humanity, and not even much complicated thinking.
He has gradually adapted to this black-and-white, simple, and repetitive life, which makes him feel that he is really returning to normal little by little.
Every day at noon, he would also take an hour without fail to see a psychologist for a talk. The doctor had recently praised him, saying that his PTSD symptoms had recovered very well, his emotions were becoming more stable, and his violent impulses had significantly decreased.
Lu Mingfei himself felt that he seemed to be much better; the frequency of those bloody visual and auditory hallucinations had indeed decreased.
Occasionally, he would be awakened by bizarre dreams in his sleep. Sometimes there was ice and snow, sometimes gunshots, and sometimes a blurry red figure calling to him from afar. But after waking up, he could not remember anything.
