Lord: Starting with Summoning the Regular Army of Earth

Chapter 10 The Miracle Created by Goblins

"A child is dying, Sir Conrad," Will said anxiously.

He had just started registering the population from house to house with Sam when he arrived at Grandma Martha's house and learned that her six-year-old grandson, Tommy, had become seriously ill due to water poisoning. He had a persistent high fever and was unconscious.

Will didn't know what to do, so he ran back to try and find a cure from the books he had brought.

Hearing Will and Conrad's conversation, Matthew immediately pushed open the door and came out, asking, "Will, what's going on?"

"I'm sorry to bother you, Your Highness," Will said apologetically, but then immediately explained Tommy's situation in detail.

Hearing Will's description, Matthew roughly guessed that Natomi had gone into shock due to severe dehydration caused by diarrhea.

Without a second thought, he turned around and recounted the situation to the five "goblin" experts in the room.

Upon hearing this, the experts' expressions instantly turned serious.

Zhao Lanxin spoke first, "It's very likely an electrolyte imbalance. Do you have any salt or sugar here?"

"Yes!" Matthew said decisively.

He knew that Will had purchased a lot of ingredients and basic seasonings in Ironrock City before arriving at Emberstone Ridge, and the food he had eaten over the past two days was cooked with those ingredients and seasonings.

"Quickly, grab some salt and sugar, let's go take a look!" Zhao Lanxin made a decisive decision, her small green body exuding an undeniable professional aura.

The other experts nodded in agreement, all understanding that saving a life is the most direct and effective way to build trust and break down barriers.

In particular, the local inhabitants have a natural fear and hatred of goblins, and they may have to frequently contact or even cooperate with these inhabitants in the future.

Matthew immediately told Will to fetch salt and sugar. Although Will didn't understand what they were for, he didn't hesitate and did so immediately.

Afterwards, Matthew, along with Zhao Lanxin and Will, hurried to Grandma Martha's house.

Conrad gave the other four goblins a meaningful look and immediately followed, determined to protect Matthew at all times.

Grandma Martha's house was a low stone house. In the dimly lit room, besides old Sam, there were several neighbors who had come after hearing the news, and they were all talking at once.

"I told you the water was cursed, poor little Tommy."

"May the God of Light protect him; I hope he pulls through."

"I wonder if the water we're drinking today has really been purified."

"I hope we'll be alright," several old women murmured.

On the makeshift bed, the little boy Tommy lay with his eyes closed, his face ashen, and his breathing so weak that his chest was barely rising and falling.

"Make way! Make way! The lord is here!" Will's panting voice rang out.

The crowd quickly made way for them, their surprise and their gazes all falling on Matthew. They hadn't expected the lord to come in person.

But when they saw the dark green-skinned, sharp-eared, fanged goblin following behind Matthew, they instantly erupted in terrified screams and commotion.

"Ah—goblins! It's goblins!"

Old Sam jumped to his feet, instinctively drawing the dagger from his waist, but immediately realized that it might be a goblin summoned by the lord.

"Don't be afraid, everyone. This goblin is a magical creature I summoned. It has a way to heal Tommy and won't hurt you," Matthew quickly explained.

Hearing Matthew's words, the group felt slightly relieved, but they were still wary and suspicious, keeping a distance. Some even wondered if they had misheard. Could such a barbaric race really have a way to cure diseases and save lives?

Zhao Lanxin, disguised as a goblin, ignored the dagger in Old Sam's hand and his hostile gaze; all her attention was focused on the child.

She walked quickly to the bedside, and under Grandma Martha's tense but restrained gaze, she gently pried open Tommy's eyelids with her green fingers, then touched his forehead and chapped lips, her movements practiced and professional.

"Severe dehydration with electrolyte imbalance, signs of shock have appeared," she said quickly to Matthew in clear Chinese. "Go prepare warm water and a spoon!"

Matthew immediately relayed Zhao Lanxin's words to the translator, and Will promptly pulled the already panicked Granny Martha to the kitchen to fetch water.

Fortunately, she had just boiled water not long ago.

Will filled a wooden bowl halfway with hot water and handed it to Zhao Lanxin.

The latter took the salt and sugar from Matthew based on the amount of water, precisely took some out and put it into the warm water, and quickly stirred it with a spoon to dissolve it.

Her movements were calm and precise, carrying a professional authority that transcended her appearance, which unconsciously calmed the surrounding commotion. Everyone held their breath as they watched this bizarre scene—a goblin preparing medicine.

Moreover, they could see that this goblin was very different from the savage scum they had ever seen before.

In a daze, they even saw not goblins, but some kind of ancient prophet.

"Come on, help me gently lift him up and feed him little by little, one small spoonful at a time, slowly," Zhao Lanxin said to a woman beside her who was pale with fright, her tone leaving no room for refusal.

Matthew translated immediately, and the woman quickly did as he was told.

Under the tense gaze of everyone, Zhao Lanxin carefully dripped a spoonful of slightly salty-sweet warm water into Tommy's chapped lips.

At first, the child did not react at all.

When the second spoonful was fed, his throat seemed to move slightly.

The third spoonful, the fourth spoonful... A few minutes later, Tommy actually made a very faint swallowing sound.

"He swallowed it! He swallowed it!" Grandma Martha cried out first, a cry of despair at seeing a glimmer of hope.

Old Sam stared at everything in disbelief, his eyes filled with a complex expression.

Zhao Lanxin continued to patiently feed him water.

With the replenishment of water and electrolytes, Tommy's previously weak breathing gradually became stronger, and a faint trace of color appeared on his ashen face.

A miracle! A true miracle happened in the hands of a goblin, leaving everyone present except Matthew utterly shocked.

Will and Conrad exchanged a glance, a smile appearing on their faces, and they were even more excited about Matthew's magical summons.

Zhao Lanxin didn't straighten up until she had fed him half a bowl of water. She said to Granny Masha, "Remember this recipe: add a little salt and sugar to warm water. Continue feeding him small amounts frequently over the next few hours until he can drink water on his own. There's nothing we can do about his fever for now, but as long as he gets enough fluids, there's a chance his life can be saved."

Grandma Martha looked at Matthew with a puzzled expression, and Matthew immediately translated Zhao Lanxin's words into the common language of this world.

Upon hearing this, Granny Martha's eyes reddened, and she nodded repeatedly. Then, with a thud, she knelt down—not to the goblin, but to Matthew—and said gratefully, "Thank you, thank you, Lord! Thank you for saving Tommy!"

Seeing this, Old Sam silently put away his dagger, his feelings complicated. For some reason, he felt a renewed sense of anticipation for this new lord and for the future of Emberstone Ridge.

Matthew stepped forward to help Grandma Martha up, without offering much explanation, because the best way to dispel misunderstandings and prejudices is not through words, but through actions.

He believed that it wouldn't be long before all the residents of Emberstone Ridge would get used to the goblins they summoned and even become dependent on them.
