Transmigrated into a fat wife, farming, raising children, and picking up husbands
Chapter 180 Nangong Xuan
Xie Huai'an came out of the west wing with tea in his hand, and paused when he saw this scene.
Lin Xiuer, with her sharp eyes, quickly went to take the tea tray, personally poured a cup of tea for Nangong Chen, and respectfully presented it to him.
"Father, have some tea."
Nangong Chen was pleased with her understanding. He took the teacup, skimmed off the foam with the lid, and slowly sipped it.
Finally venting his anger, Nangong Chen was overjoyed. He put down his cup and then spoke.
"Now you believe I'm not a human trafficker, right?" He looked at Lin Xiuer, a smile in his eyes. "May I hold my grandson now?"
Lin Xiuer was taken aback.
"Yes, of course!" she nodded repeatedly. "I'll go and call him over right now!"
She dashed into the house.
Xiao Bao is obediently practicing calligraphy in his room.
The little girl sat upright at the table, holding a calligraphy brush, writing each stroke carefully.
Hearing the door open, before he could even speak, his mother rushed in like a gust of wind, picked him up, and ran out again.
When he came to his senses, he was already in the old man's arms, still holding the calligraphy brush in his hand.
Nangong Chen looked down at the little guy in his arms, and the more he looked, the more he liked him.
His little face was fair and tender, his eyes were big and bright, and his eyelashes were long. He was looking at him with fluttering eyes. He was just like his mother.
"What's your name?" he asked with a smile.
Xiao Bao obediently answered, "Lin Yi."
"Lin Yi..." Nangong Chen repeated it twice, then nodded. "Lin Yi, Nangong Yi, hmm, not bad, haha, a good name!"
He laughed and teased Xiao Bao for a while longer, asking him about his homework before putting him down.
Xiao Bao took his pen and ran back to his room to continue practicing calligraphy.
Nangong Chen turned to look at Lin Xiuer, "Actually, your mother gave you a name back then."
He spoke with a touch of nostalgia, "I said I hope my future children will be named Nangong Yu if it's a boy, and Nangong Xuan if it's a girl. Xuan as in Xuanji. Do you like that?"
Lin Xiuer was stunned.
Nangong Xuan.
As she murmured the name, a complex mix of emotions welled up inside her.
It turns out that her own mother, the woman who never returned after drawing away the pursuers, had given her such a beautiful name long ago.
"I like it," she said, her voice a little hoarse. "Of course I like it."
She lowered her head and wiped her eyes.
"Since this is the name my mother gave me," she said, "then I'll take this name."
This might be her only connection with her biological mother, whom she had never met.
She doesn't want to change.
Nangong Chen looked at her, a hint of relief in his eyes.
The setting sun slanted into the courtyard, casting a warm yellow glow on the ground.
Lin Xiuer sniffed and smiled.
"It's getting late, Father. What would you like to eat? I'll make it for you."
Nangong Chen laughed heartily and nodded.
"Okay, you can do it. Pei Zhao said you're a great cook."
Lin Xiuer waved her hand.
"I wouldn't say I'm outstanding," she said in a light tone.
"It's just that I'm forced by life. I need to earn money to pay off my debts and support my family, so I have to find a way to make it taste good."
Nangong Chen sighed and reached out to pat her head.
"Good boy," he said, his tone tinged with heartache. "Pei Zhao told me everything that happened before."
Lin Xiuer looked up at him.
"Don't worry, those who came to harm you have all been caught by your father."
A cold glint flashed in Nangong Chen's eyes. "It's just that we haven't gotten to the bottom of your mother's matter yet, so I haven't killed her. Father has already ordered them to interrogate her thoroughly."
He looked at her, his eyes serious: "I will definitely avenge you and your mother."
Lin Xiuer nodded heavily, wiped her eyes, and smiled again.
"I'm going to buy groceries now, you can rest for a bit."
Lin Xiuer picked up a basket and walked outside.
Nangong Chen watched her figure disappear through the door before standing up and slowly surveying the garden.
The courtyard was very clean, with blue bricks paving the ground, and several flowers and trees growing just right.
He glanced at the young man behind him.
"Is this your old family house?"
Xie Huai'an nodded.
He stood there, his gaze sweeping over the old locust tree in the yard, and the well...
"When I was young, my elder brother and I lived here with our mother," he said, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "We only went to the capital after my grandparents passed away."
"When I left, I was only about the same age as the young prince, so I don't have many memories of this place."
Nangong Chen nodded.
"Was that your sister in the store just now?"
Xie Huai'an was slightly taken aback, then nodded.
"Yes."
Nangong Chen stood with his hands behind his back, gazing at the distant sunset.
"Now that your father's wrongful conviction has been overturned, she no longer needs to live under an assumed name."
Xie Huai'an lowered his eyes and remained silent.
"After we return to the capital, I will announce to the world that your father's name has been restored. Ask your sister what requests she has, and I will try my best to grant them."
Xie Huai'an raised his head and looked at him.
After a moment of silence, he bowed with his hands clasped in greeting.
"Your Majesty is deeply grateful for your kindness in clearing my father's name."
"There are no other requirements."
Nangong Chen nodded, not in a hurry for him to make a decision immediately.
As soon as Lin Xiuer stepped out, she saw Pei Zhao waiting at the door.
She felt a warmth in her heart, walked over, and the two walked side by side toward the market.
Pei Zhao took the basket from her hand, and the two of them first bought a fish, then some ribs, cut a piece of pork belly, and picked out some seasonal vegetables.
Hui Xiu Ji picked out a few braised dishes and had Xiao He wrap them up.
Old Hu and Chen Mingxuan gathered around curiously, "How's it going, Xiuer? Who exactly is that old man?"
"Yes, Sister Lin, they didn't give you any trouble, did they?"
Lin Xiuer looked at them and sighed.
"It's a long story. Back then, something happened at home, and they accidentally lost me."
"Later, my mother took me in and raised me ever since."
She didn't dare say she was a princess, for fear of scaring them.
"Oh—" The group suddenly realized.
Wu Liangcai nodded: "No wonder he dared to speak like that, it turns out it really was his own father who came knocking on the door."
Chen Mingxuan also sighed, "This old man has had a tough time too, searching for you for so many years without giving up."
Lin Xiuer packed several kinds of braised dishes and said to Hu Yidao, "Old Hu, grill some extra meat skewers tonight and deliver them to my house later."
"Alright!" Hu Yidao patted his chest. "Leave it to me!"
Lin Xiuer and Pei Zhao carried the groceries back home.
By the time I got home, it was already dark.
The courtyard was lit with lamps, casting a dim, yellowish glow. Nangong Chen was sitting at the stone table drinking tea, while Xie Huai'an stood beside him, seemingly looking at something.
Xiao Bao was lying on the other side of the stone table, drawing something on a piece of paper with a brush. After drawing for a while, he would look up at Nangong Chen, then look down again and continue drawing.
Lin Xiuer glanced at it and felt a warmth in her heart.
She carried the groceries into the kitchen, rolled up her sleeves, and began to work.
Chop the ribs into small pieces and marinate them with soy sauce and a little wine.
Fry the ribs until golden brown on both sides, then remove them and sauté minced garlic until fragrant. Return the ribs to the pan and stir-fry briefly; the aroma will immediately fill the air.
