The cave was so quiet you could hear the dripping of water from the ceiling, a slow, rhythmic "ding-dong," making time seem to stretch on endlessly. The firelight flickered, casting dappled shadows on the rock walls like dancing ghosts. The air was thick with the aroma of herbs, bitter yet carrying a faint hint of life.

Lin Feng lay on the straw mat, his face still flushed with a sickly pallor. His left arm was wrapped in thick strips of cloth, soaked in dark brown medicinal liquid, with occasional streaks of blood seeping out. Sweat constantly seeped from his forehead, dampening the straw beneath him.

Yun Yao stayed by his side, never leaving his side. She changed into the old linen clothes that Qin Yaosou had found for her. The loose-fitting clothes looked a little bulky on her, but they were clean and refreshing. The ash on her face had already been washed away, revealing skin as white as snow. However, the dark circles under her eyes and the weariness between her brows added a touch of haggardness to her beautiful face.

She held a warm, damp cloth in her hand and gently wiped Lin Feng's forehead, her movements as tender as if she were cherishing a rare treasure. "Brother Lin, please wake up soon, okay?" she murmured softly, her voice so soft that only she could hear it, tears streaming down her cheeks and dripping onto the back of Lin Feng's hand.

She held Lin Feng's uninjured right hand, which was frighteningly hot, yet strangely gave her a sense of strength. She had never taken care of anyone before, but at this moment, seeing Lin Feng's pained appearance, she only wanted to do everything she could to protect him, even if it was just wiping the cold sweat from his forehead.

On the other side, Shi Xiu and Liu Yun were also sitting not far away. They had arrived yesterday evening, and as agreed, they had led Shi Cao'er to this cave by following the secret marks left by Lin Feng that only their own family could understand (for safety, they went in two groups). When they saw Lin Feng unconscious and with a persistent high fever, Shi Xiu's tears welled up on the spot, and Liu Yun's legs went weak, and she almost collapsed, but was caught by A Yue in time.

"Sister Yun, will my husband be alright?" Shi Xiu's eyes were red and swollen like peaches, her voice trembling with sobs. She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. "It's all my fault for being useless; I couldn't help at all!"

Liu Yun patted her shoulder, her own voice trembling, but she still tried to remain calm: "Don't worry, Old Master Qin's medical skills are superb, Lin Feng will definitely get better. All we can do now is to take good care of him and not cause any trouble." Even so, when her gaze fell on Lin Feng, it was full of worry, and her fingertips trembled slightly.

Liu Yun got up and walked to Lin Feng's side. She took the wooden spoon for feeding medicine from Yun Yao and said softly, "Miss Yun Yao, you rest for a while. I'll feed him." She picked up the warm medicine bowl, scooped up a spoonful of medicine, carefully blew on it to cool it down, and then carefully fed it to Lin Feng's mouth.

A-Yue stood like a statue near the cave entrance, her ashen face hidden in the shadows, only her eyes shining brightly in the darkness. She rarely spoke, only watching the movements outside the cave warily. Occasionally, she would get up to check Lin Feng's wounds, touch his forehead to feel his temperature, and then silently retreat back inside.

"Ah Yue, you should rest for a while too. We'll watch over things here," Yun Yao said softly.

A-Yue shook her head, her voice low and deep: "I'm fine."

Yun Yao looked at Qin Yaosou, her doubts growing deeper. This old man's appearance was too coincidental; his medical skills were superb, and he knew the environment of the deep mountains like the back of his hand. Yet, he remained unusually calm in the face of people like them who clearly had something to hide. What exactly was his identity?

As night deepened, new firewood was added to the fire inside the cave, crackling and providing a meager warmth.

Qin Yaosou got up and walked to Lin Feng's side, placing his hand on Lin Feng's forehead. After a moment, he nodded: "The fever has subsided somewhat, and his life is temporarily out of danger."

"Really?" Yun Yao, Shi Xiu, and Liu Yun all gathered around at the same time, their eyes filled with surprise.

"It's only temporary," Qin Yaosou sighed. "He lost too much blood, his vital energy was severely depleted, and he still has many old ailments. He needs to be properly recuperated for a period of time, otherwise, he may suffer long-term health problems that could affect his lifespan."

Yun Yao's face turned pale instantly. She knelt down abruptly and kowtowed to Qin Yaosou, pleading, "Old Master Qin, please, you must save him! We're willing to pay any price!"

"Get up quickly." Qin Yaosou gently lifted Yun Yao with his cane, a gentle force helping her to her feet. "A doctor's heart is like a parent's. Since I've taken action, I will naturally do my best. However, conditioning the body cannot be rushed; it depends on his own fate."

He watched Lin Feng quietly, a look of understanding flashing in his eyes. He picked up the pestle again and continued to grind the medicine. The "thump, thump, thump" sound echoed in the cave, striking the hearts of everyone present.

In the latter half of the night, Lin Feng's high fever finally subsided completely, the flush on his face gradually faded, and his breathing became steady and long. Yun Yao and Liu Yun took turns watching over him, barely sleeping a wink all night.

As the sky began to lighten and the first rays of sunlight shone through the cracks in the cave ceiling into the cavern, Lin Feng's eyelashes trembled slightly.

Yun Yao, who had been holding his hand, immediately noticed. She held her breath, her heart pounding, and stared intently at his face: "Brother Lin?"

Lin Feng slowly opened his eyes, his gaze initially blank and unfocused. After a while, his gaze gradually sharpened, slowly sweeping across the cavern before finally settling on Yun Yao's tear-streaked face.

"Water..." He opened his mouth, his voice dry and hoarse.

"The water is here!" Liu Yun immediately brought over the warm water, carefully lifted Lin Feng's head, and brought the bamboo tube to his mouth.

The warm water soothed his throat, and Lin Feng's mind cleared somewhat. After drinking the water, he leaned against the dry grass, his gaze sweeping over Yun Yao, Shi Xiu, and Liu Yun surrounding him, then turning to A Yue guarding the cave entrance, a hint of relaxation flashing in his eyes. But when he saw Qin Yaosou not far away, his eyes instantly became wary.

"It was this old man Qin who saved you!" Liu Yun quickly explained.

Lin Feng looked at Qin Yaosou and said with difficulty, "Thank you... for saving my life, sir."

Qin Yaosou nodded slightly: "It's just a coincidence, don't worry about it. Your injuries haven't healed yet, you need to rest. This place is safe, you can stay here for a while." After saying that, he picked up his cane and bamboo basket, "I'll go check the traps and gather some herbs, you can do as you please." Before he finished speaking, he had already slipped out the door and disappeared into the morning light.

Only the five of them remained inside the cave. Sunlight shone on Lin Feng's pale face. Looking at the women before him, each with red eyes and a worried expression, the hardest part of his heart suddenly softened.

"I'm sorry to have worried you," he said softly, trying to force a smile, but the movement aggravated his wound, causing him to frown.

"Don't move!" Yun Yao immediately pressed him down, her eyes red-rimmed. "Old Master Qin said you need to rest and not move around!"

"Husband, I'm so glad you're alright, I'm so glad you're alright..." Liu Yun choked up, tears falling again.

Shi Xiu cried and said, "You scared us to death yesterday! Don't work so hard again!"

A-Yue walked to the stove, picked up the warm medicine, and handed it to Lin Feng: "Drink your medicine."

Lin Feng took the bowl of medicine and, without the slightest hesitation, tilted his head back and drank it all in one gulp. The bitter taste filled his mouth, but he didn't even flinch.

He handed the empty bowl to A-Yue, leaned back against the hay, closed his eyes, and began to regulate his breathing. Silence returned to the cave, broken only by the crackling of the fire and the tinkling of dripping water.

Outside the cave, the mountains stretched endlessly, shrouded in mist, like a giant net, shrouding all secrets and dangers. Lin Feng's awakening was not the end, but the beginning of another arduous journey. The mystery of Qin Yaosou, the pursuit of Di Rong, the unknown of the prefecture, and his own deeply hidden secrets... all were like the mist in the mountains, waiting to be unveiled, or perhaps, to become even thicker.
