Two more days passed.

During his lunch break, Chen Zheng went to An Jianjun's office again.

The door wasn't closed properly, so he pushed it open and went inside.

An Jianjun was sitting behind his desk, holding a bucket of instant noodles and slurping them down happily.

Upon hearing the door open, he reflexively shoved the instant noodles under the table, sat up straight, and immediately put on a stern face.

Then he saw who it was.

"Tsk, it's you. Ah."

An Jianjun's shoulders slumped immediately. He bent down to retrieve the instant noodles from under the table, stuck his chopsticks back into the noodles, and continued slurping.

"You scared me! I thought Anran had come back."

Chen Zheng pulled out a chair and sat down, without any formalities, getting straight to the point.

"Commander, have you heard anything about Lan Meng, since you said you'd keep an eye on her?"

An Jianjun rolled his eyes.

"They're already getting anxious after only a few days."

"I asked around and had my old comrades help me inquire."

"Blue Dream's core research data has all been taken away by the higher-ups and is now sealed at a very high level. My authority as a brigade commander is not enough to access it."

"I contacted other people, but they said the research hasn't officially started yet and they don't have any leads for the time being."

Chen Zheng nodded, but didn't reply immediately.

An Jianjun picked up another noodle with his chopsticks and suddenly looked up at him.

"However, there's some news."

"The central government will soon form a number of special research teams to focus on in-depth analysis of the components of Blue Dream to see if it can be converted into medical value."

"We'll be drawing personnel from all systems across the military at that time. You can take a look then."

Chen Zheng immediately replied, "Then could you give me some Blue Dream samples so I can study them myself?"

An Jianjun almost dropped his chopsticks.

"Do you think those are goji berries, something you can just take and brew whenever you want?"

Chen Zheng fell silent.

Seeing this, An Jianjun quickly added, "That thing is a controlled item. I also handed over the tube you brought back last time."

"If I let you do your own research on Lan Meng, what if something goes wrong? How am I supposed to explain this to my superiors?"

Upon hearing this, Chen Zheng replied earnestly, "Brigadier, I have a background in pharmacy. I'm not just messing around; a very small sample size is all I need."

He paused, a hint of annoyance in his voice.

"When I left the Cloud Club, I never expected things to turn out this way, so I didn't bring much with me."

"Unfortunately, having the formula for Blue Dream isn't enough; it also requires various specialized equipment to synthesize. Even if I knew the formula, it wouldn't be of any use."

An Jianjun put down his chopsticks completely.

He crossed his arms, leaned back in his chair, and looked at Chen Zheng with a rather strange expression.

The two sat facing each other without saying a word.

After a long silence, An Jianjun suddenly spoke.

"Chen Zheng, you said last time that you had a hidden illness, but you didn't tell me what it was."

Chen Zheng's face froze for the first time.

An Jianjun stared at him and said slowly and deliberately.

"I can help you with Blue Dream, but I need to know exactly what you want to cure."

"If you don't explain it clearly to me, I can't help you find the right path."

"If that research group's research direction is completely unrelated to your condition, it will be a waste of time to look for them."

Chen Zheng fell silent.

About ten minutes later.

Finally, he took a deep breath.

His lips moved twice.

An Jianjun almost didn't hear clearly as they approached.

But he did hear it clearly after all.

An Jianjun froze for about five seconds.

Then, the corners of his mouth began to tremble uncontrollably.

He suddenly turned his head away from Chen Zheng and pretended to cough.

"Cough cough cough..."

Chen Zheng's face darkened instantly.

Are you laughing?

Upon hearing this, An Jianjun turned around abruptly and shook his head with a serious expression.

"No! Absolutely not! This is a very serious matter!"

"As your superior, I would never... cough cough!"

He turned around again.

Chen Zheng stood up expressionlessly and was about to leave.

An Jianjun quickly grabbed his arm and said something.

"Sit down, sit down. I'm being serious, I'm being serious."

"It's not a big deal. With modern medicine so advanced, this kind of illness is no longer a terminal disease."

"Besides, didn't you say that Lan Meng might have a solution? Let's take a look."

As he spoke, he cleared his throat, trying to appear serious.

"First of all, I can't give you Lanmeng's sample directly; this is a bottom line that can't be crossed."

"If it's discovered, we'll both be punished."

Chen Zheng remained silent, waiting for him to continue.

An Jianjun sighed helplessly, then held up one finger.

"But I can do something else."

"I can help you secure a spot in that central research group."

"If you can get into that group, Lanmeng's samples, data, and equipment are all readily available. You can conduct research however you want, and it will all be legal and compliant."

Chen Zheng's brows relaxed slightly.

But then An Jianjun added a sentence.

"But to be honest with you, this isn't something I can decide with just a few words."

"The selection of members for that group is approved by higher authorities. At most, I can only make recommendations. Whether they are selected depends on luck."

"Around when?" Chen Zheng asked.

An Jianjun pondered for a moment.

"If things go smoothly, we can finalize it in the next few days; otherwise, it's uncertain."

Chen Zheng nodded, said nothing more, and got up to walk towards the door.

As he reached the door, An Jianjun called out to him.

"Chen Zheng".

Chen Zheng stopped but did not turn around.

An Jianjun said it very seriously.

"I'll take this to heart. Don't rush into anything, and don't try to do anything yourself."

Chen Zheng hummed in agreement, then opened the door and left.

The door closed.

An Jianjun was left alone in the office again.

He stared at the door for two seconds, then finally couldn't help himself, covering his mouth with one hand and laughing silently for a while.

After laughing, he shook his head and sighed.

No wonder this kid always has goji berry water in his hand.

So that's really the reason.

An Jianjun leaned back in his chair, his mind replaying Chen Zheng's expression when he said those two words.

The contrast between someone who could crush a grandmaster with a single punch and uttering those two words was truly ruthless.

Laugh it off, but business still needs to be done.

An Jianjun picked up the landline on the table again and dialed a number.

"Old Zhou, it's me again."

"Jianjun? You've been calling me more often these past few days than my wife has. What's up?"

An Jianjun considered his words for a moment before speaking.

"Keep a close eye on that Blue Dream research group you mentioned."

"Notify me immediately when a spot becomes available. I have someone here who absolutely has to be included."

There was a pause on the other end of the phone.

"Who goes there? Why are you in such a hurry?"

An Jianjun glanced at the doorway, and only after confirming that no one was there did he whisper.

"A very important person."

"Okay, I've got it."

After hanging up the phone, An Jianjun pushed the soggy instant noodles aside, took out a cigarette pack from the drawer, and shook out a cigarette.

Take a deep breath after lighting it.

Chen Zheng, that kid, is really tough, and he's really suffering...
