Sun Chengwu and Richard trudged through knee-deep snow, following the direction of the hillside where the brown bear had last disappeared, searching deeper into the forest.

The cold wind blew fiercely, whipping up snowflakes that stung my face, making it both cold and painful.

Neither of them spoke, their ears perked up as they warily scanned their surroundings.

After walking for about twenty minutes, Richard suddenly stopped in a sheltered rocky hollow and pointed to the ground.

Sun Chengwu went over to take a look and saw several pools of blood on the snow that had frozen into a dark brown color. There were also a few clean bones scattered around, with some frozen tendons still attached to them.

Sun Chengwu squatted down, picked up a bone, and examined it closely.

The bone is only as thick as a little finger and looks like a rabbit's.

The cross-section is uneven, with small, sharp teeth marks and obvious tearing marks.

He frowned. "Something's not right."

Sun Chengwu handed the bone to Richard, saying, "Look at these teeth marks; they don't look like they were made by a bear."

Bears have thick teeth and a strong bite force; bones will either be shattered or leave a large tooth mark.

That tooth mark is so fine.

Richard took the bone, ran his fingers over the teeth marks, and his face darkened. "It's a wolf. Only a wolf would gnaw bones like this, like a dog."

He paused, then added, "And this wolf must have been starving; it licked the meat so clean, leaving nothing behind, and even chewed up the bones."

Sun Chengwu's heart skipped a beat; it was that lone wolf!

Sun Chengwu stood up, patted the snow off his hands, and said, "Let's go up and take a look."

They continued to search up the hillside.

The higher you go, the fewer trees there are, and the stronger the wind becomes, making it almost impossible for people to stand.

The surroundings were eerily quiet, with only the sound of the wind and the crunch of snow underfoot.

As they approached the top of the slope, Sun Chengwu suddenly stopped listening intently.

A very soft rustling sound came from behind and to the side.

His muscles tensed instantly. Without thinking, he turned around abruptly, simultaneously taking the bow and nocking an arrow onto it.

Just as he turned around, a gray shadow silently darted out from a patch of bushes bent low by the weight of snow to his side.

It was that lone wolf! They hadn't even noticed it getting this close!

"Richard, watch out!"

Sun Chengwu only had time to shout once before he had just grabbed the bow and hadn't even nocked an arrow.

Richard's reaction was surprisingly quick.

Almost at the same time as Sun Chengwu's warning, he seemed to have eyes in the back of his head, and his body suddenly rolled to the side into the snow. The movement was clumsy but effective, and he managed to avoid the lone wolf's attack.

As he rolled, the bow in his hand was already drawn. He subconsciously aimed, relying entirely on his senses, at the direction from which the gray shadow was rushing, and then released his finger!

"Boom!"

The bowstring vibrated, and the arrow pierced the air, shooting towards the lone wolf.

The lone wolf was fast and crouched low. Richard clearly misjudged the lone wolf's shoulder height. And since it was downhill, the arrow only grazed its neck, taking away a tuft of gray fur.

"Aww!"

Startled, the lone wolf let out a short howl. Without hesitation, it landed, pushed off the ground with its four paws, and using the slippery snow, it turned and darted down the slope into the dense forest.

When Sun Chengwu saw the lone wolf flee, a few glaring red drops were left on the snow.

It seems that although Richard's arrow didn't hit a vital spot, it still managed to injure it.

Sun Chengwu fired another arrow in the direction the lone wolf had fled.

But the lone wolf had already run far away, and the arrow was somewhat inaccurate, hitting a tree instead.

Sun Chengwu turned to look at Richard and asked with concern, "Are you injured?"

Richard stood up, brushing the snow off his body. His face was a little pale, and he shook his head, panting. "No... I'm fine."

That beast, he's damn cunning!

He looked in the direction where the lone wolf had disappeared with lingering fear. "Brother Sun, this wolf has its eyes on us."

It will definitely not give up easily and will definitely come back to launch a sneak attack.

"Looking for the bear like this is too dangerous. Maybe... we should go back first?"

Sun Chengwu stared at the direction the lone wolf had fled, feeling somewhat unwilling.

This beast has been harassing them; letting it go like this would be too lenient.

Sun Chengwu gritted his teeth and said, "I won't go back. When it catches up later, I'll deliberately create an opening."

Richard, kill him with one arrow!

Richard hesitated for a moment, "That wolf was very fierce. If I had missed, you might have gotten hurt."

Sun Chengwu took the stone spear off his back, a ruthless look on his face. "No matter how fierce a wolf is, it can't beat a man. If it really bites me, I'll just trade my life for its wounds."

Brother Li, your arrows are very accurate, I believe in you.

Receiving affirmation once again, Richard felt a little guilty. "Don't say that. I don't even believe myself."

Sun Chengwu said with certainty, "Brother Li, don't always underestimate yourself. You are clearly a very capable and strong person, but you always act like a coward."

With a temper like yours, anyone can bully you.

Our current environment can be described as a dog-eat-dog world; the more you back down, the more you get bullied.

Look, we just showed our backs, and even that beast dared to bite us.

If we don't really hurt it, it'll never end.

Sun Chengwu may be talking about hunting, but he is actually talking about how to be a person.

Richard was just a little dull and insecure, not stupid; he could tell.

But how can a personality formed over a lifetime be easily changed overnight?

Richard listened to him and nodded, saying, "Okay, if you trust me, then I'll protect you with my life."

That's exactly what Sun Chengwu wanted to hear: "Then let's keep going."

Just as Sun Chengwu and his group encountered obstacles, Huang Shi and Lin Can made a discovery.

They were searching for the direction of the coastline. They walked along the coastline for almost three kilometers when the terrain suddenly rose, and they entered a glacial area.

Brown bears, being large animals, do not enter glaciers, partly because the ice is thin and brittle, and their large size would cause it to collapse.

On the other hand, it is very cold on the glacier.

Although brown bears exist in the outer Arctic Circle, they are not polar bears and are also susceptible to the cold.

When the weather gets colder, they hibernate or migrate south.

Encountering a brown bear here is already quite unexpected.

Just as the two were about to head back, Huang Shi suddenly called out, "Lin Can, come here quickly!"

Lin Can quickened his pace to catch up and asked, "What's wrong?"

Huang Shi pointed to the bear paw prints and a pile of feces on the ground, his face extremely grim. "Look."

The feces were huge, enough to fill a basin, and were clearly the droppings of a carnivore. Even when frozen into a lump, they still smelled terrible.

The bear paw print, the size of a face, next to them further extinguished their last shred of hope.

The bear was right in front of them.

Huang Shi was getting scared and wanted to back out. "Why don't we go back first and let Brother Sun and the others take a look? If we keep going forward, we won't be able to escape if we encounter a brown bear."
