Sure enough, Dahei and Erhei returned at dinner time.

The two, unaware of what had happened, excitedly recounted how they had followed a squirrel that day and emptied one of its food burrows.

They were simple-minded and even shared the nuts they found with everyone.

Sometimes, Black people aren't inherently bad; it's just that their environment is what it is.

Many Black people have an average lifespan of only twenty or thirty years, and they never see their father from birth to death.

They have a lot of clever tricks, but no real wisdom; they just drift along.

Because of their short lifespans, they prefer to live for the moment and are therefore unrestrained by the law, doing all sorts of things that defy common sense.

However, while Sun Chengwu sympathized with such a person, he would not entrust his back to him.

After receiving the nuts, Sun Chengwu reciprocated by bringing out reindeer hind legs to roast over the fire, with no limit on the amount for each person.

Sun Chengwu's actions drew cheers from the three black men. Even the shadow of almost dying had vanished for the curly-haired man, who stood up and kept praising Sun Chengwu.

However, before holding the bonfire party, Sun Chengwu had one more thing to do.

He called Huang Shi, and the two of them chased after the brown bear in the direction it had fled.

The brown bear's footprints were large, so it was easy to follow. More and more bloodstains appeared on the snow, eventually flowing down like a faucet, forming a continuous line.

This suggests that the animal likely lost too much blood.

They chased after it for two kilometers and saw a huge snow pit in the snow.

The pit was completely red inside, the snow was dyed red, and due to the low temperature, it condensed into a layer of red ice.

It looks like the brown bear tripped and fell here, then struggled to get up.

Inside the snow pit, Sun Chengwu saw the wooden arrows they had shot at the brown bear.

Further along, the bloodstains became much fainter.

The fact that the wooden arrow fell out indicates that the brown bear's wound has stopped bleeding; the thick layer of fat can prevent further bleeding by compressing the wound.

Upon reaching this point, Sun Chengwu had a bad feeling.

Could the brown bear have run away?

Judging from the direction, the brown bear should have returned to the cave where Wang Yu died.

The two chased after it and, sure enough, reached the outer edge of the cave.

The footprints disappeared at the entrance of the cave.

The intense stench inside the cave made both of them cover their mouths and noses. This extremely pungent stench would deter any human being; it was a reminder of the instinct to prioritize that was ingrained in their genes.

Sun Chengwu endured the stench of the corpse and entered the cave.

Once inside, the stench of corpses became even stronger.

Sun Chengwu dared not let his guard down. He drew his bow and arrow and carefully moved forward step by step, not daring to make a sound.

Soon, he saw Wang Yu's corpse, which had been devoured beyond recognition.

Last time I looked at it, I could still make out the shape of a person.

This time, only a few broken bones remained, and the flesh on them had been shaved off very cleanly.

Sun Chengwu squatted down to examine one of the broken bones.

He noticed that the bite marks were very clear, and there was still sticky saliva left. On the grayish-white bone, there was a touch of red blood.

Sun Chengwu raised his head warily, staring at the deepest part of the cave.

There was nothing inside.

However, bloodstains remained on the ground and on the walls of the cave.

That beast came back; because it was so hungry, it chewed up and ate Wang Yu's bones.

Then he left again.

The mountain is on a sunny slope. Although there is snow, it is not much, and many black stones are exposed.

Sun Chengwu came out of the cave and carefully examined the tracks on the hillside, discovering that the brown bear had walked up the mountain.

The trail was intermittent, but he kept following it and found another snow pit halfway up the mountain.

The bloodstains in the snow pit had not yet frozen, indicating that it had just been there and had not gone far.

Sun Chengwu squatted on the ground, his eyes scanning his surroundings warily.

Maybe that beast is hiding somewhere nearby watching them.

Huang Shi swallowed hard, and asked nervously, "Where is it?"

At that moment, a drop of hot liquid landed on the back of Sun Chengwu's neck.

He wiped it; it was sticky and had a nauseating, putrid smell.

He suddenly looked up and saw striking, fresh scratch marks on the tree trunk in front of him.

He looked up and saw a huge brown figure lying on the tree trunk five or six meters above him.

"Aww!"

The brown bear was spotted and suddenly crashed down from above.

Sun Chengwu was startled and quickly stepped back.

Boom!

The brown bear crashed to the ground, causing the snow on the trees to fall with a clatter. The surrounding snow and the vibrations from the bear's fall made Sun Chengwu lose his balance.

A strong sense of fear spread through him. As he backed away, he tripped over a stone and fell to the ground with a thud.

The brown bear's eye was filled with flesh and blood, making it look extremely disgusting.

The other one-eyed man stared intently at Sun Chengwu, his gaze fierce.

Sun Chengwu forced himself to calm down. There was no time to use a bow and arrow, so he thrust the stone spear in his hand at the brown bear's eyes once again.

The brown bear did not dodge, but swatted the stone spear away with one paw.

With a snap, the stone spear broke completely.

The brown bear stood upright; the wound on its abdomen had stopped bleeding, and the blood on its fur had frozen, hanging on its body mixed with blood.

It was very weak, and when it stood up it could not stand straight, and its body swayed.

This gave Sun Chengwu the opportunity to escape.

He turned around and scrambled down the mountain.

The brown bear swayed its massive body, let out another roar, but did not give chase; instead, it continued running into the woods.

Brown bears are highly intelligent; they are cunning, and could even be described as clever.

They hold grudges and know how to run away.

If they let it escape now, and it survives, they'll never have a peaceful life again.

Sun Chengwu looked up, watching the brown bear's retreating figure, and shouted to Huang Shi, "Don't let him get away, shoot him!"

Huang Shi had been aiming for it for a while, but he was too flustered and the arrow never hit the mark.

He finally got on board and aimed for the brown bear's rear end.

call out!

He loosened his fingers and shot an arrow.

However, the distance was too great, and his arrow struck a tree nearby.

Huang Shi got up to chase after him.

Sun Chengwu shouted to stop him, "Don't chase it! Don't be fooled by its current running speed, it's really fighting for its life. It's hard to say who will die between us."

Huang Shi ran back, asking worriedly, "Are you alright?"

Sun Chengwu shook his head. He stood up unsteadily, a sharp pain shooting through his right foot.

I sprained my ankle because I was running too fast.

He checked it and found it was only slightly red and swollen. He held his foot in his hand and rotated it clockwise. It stung a little, but it wasn't serious.

He breathed a sigh of relief, "Thank goodness, it's just a sprain, no broken bones."

Such an environment can damage bones, making them very difficult to heal.

The colder the weather, the less nutrition one gets, and even if one recovers, one may still be left with a disability.

Sun Chengwu looked up at the woods above and said with some regret, "It seems we can't kill it. Let's go back first."
