Regulus of Hogwarts: Lord of the Stars
Chapter 59 Natural Magic
The legacy of the Eldrin ancestors' "Natural Magic" is directly imprinted in their consciousness.
This is not a list of spells, but only the trajectory of the flow of magic and the method of resonating with nature, as well as the ancestors' understanding of the magic of nature.
Natural magic has attributes, a trajectory, and is a living thing with its own temperament.
Just as the wind will bypass obstacles and water will flow along gullies, it requires resonance and guidance, not simple plunder.
The ancestor's talent was an innate bridge, allowing him to communicate directly with the magic of nature and to see its flow directly; it was his natural eye.
Regulus didn't have those eyes, nor was he fortunate enough to have them, but he could sense the emotions and states of plants—it was another sensory system.
Like the blind men and the elephant, they could not see the whole picture, but they could feel the outline.
That's enough. All of Eldrin's decades of experience exploring the magic of nature: which paths are viable, which are dead ends, which places are traps, and which places hold treasures.
Now he just needs to walk this path in his own way.
He recalled his previous experiment with daisies, where he guided the magic of healthy daisies to repair their damaged counterparts. It was successful, but inefficient.
Now he understood the problem: he was merely moving magic, like scooping water with a bucket, while Eldrin was digging a canal to bring the water in.
However, there is no such thing as a wizarding world where one can rise to the top overnight by relying on inheritance. Otherwise, Grindelwald or Voldemort would have been able to gather an army of inheritors and sweep across the earth long ago.
The legacy contains the spirit and will of our ancestors. It is one of only a dozen or so inheritances in the Black family over the past thousand years. Each one is the culmination of a lifetime of hard work and cannot be easily mastered.
Regulus needed to digest, to dissect, and to make the insights of his ancestors his own.
"Kreacher, bring a few bowls of white wine," Regulus called softly from the wooden table in the attic.
The house-elf appeared instantly, its nose almost touching the ground, carrying three pots of lush white succulents in its arms. The leaves were thick and emerald green, with fine hairs along the edges; these were magical plants renowned for their healing properties.
Pureblood families often cultivate these plants in their home greenhouses. They can be used in medicine, and their magic possesses defensive and healing properties, making them less susceptible to contamination by dark magic.
"Young master, Bai Xian was just taken from the greenhouse in the courtyard; it's the freshest."
Regulus nodded, gesturing for Kreacher to place the potted plant by the window.
Sunlight streamed through the glass and fell on the leaves. He stretched out his hand, his palm hovering above the leaves, and magic enveloped the white petals.
Following the logic of the inheritance, he first sensed the magical trajectory of Bai Xian, flowing along the veins of the leaf and gathering at the tip of the leaf, carrying a warm and gentle feeling.
He let his own magic sway gently in sync with Bai Xian's rhythm, searching for a point where their magic would synchronize.
This step was much more precise than when guiding the daisies. The insights he gained from the inheritance allowed him to quickly locate the main channels of magical flow and avoid the fixed nodes of plant magic.
Fifteen minutes later, I finally felt a faint warmth flowing into my palm.
That magic carried the freshness of grass and trees, completely different from his own magic, gentle yet firm.
Regulus twitched his fingertips, guiding the warm magic to his fingertips, where it condensed into a pale golden bead.
Then a thought struck him, and a shallow cut appeared on the skin next to the bead, just turning red.
Regulus guided the pale golden beads to cover the wound, and in an instant, the stinging sensation disappeared.
Half a minute later, the reddened skin began to heal, a scab formed after one minute, and the scab fell off after three minutes, leaving only a faint mark.
The effect was far inferior to the potion made with white peony juice, but the idea and process were correct. He skipped all the steps of picking, grinding, and mixing, and directly extracted the healing magic of white peony.
He made a comparison in his mind. Compared to the forced repair of the healing spell, this was more like the plant's own healing process, cell division, tissue regeneration, slow, but natural.
Regulus once again placed the white safflower leaf on his palm.
This time, he sped up the guiding speed, splitting his magic into two streams: one for synchronizing magic and the other for gentle guiding, increasing the efficiency by half compared to the first time.
During the third induction, Regulus clearly felt that the flow of Bai Xian's magic had slowed down.
He looked up at the potted plant. The once lush green leaves had lost their luster, the edges were starting to wilt, and the outermost leaf was even turning yellow.
He immediately withdrew his magic, the lingering warmth still on his fingertips.
He quickly figured out the reason: magic is the foundation of magical plants, just like blood is to the human body. Excessive extraction will only cause them to wither and even revert to the state of ordinary plants, losing their magical properties.
Regulus reached out and gently combed a small amount of his magic along the veins of the leaf, simulating the magic of natural growth.
Ten minutes later, the wilted white daisy recovered, and the leaves stopped turning yellow, but the lost luster was not fully restored.
This led him to conclude that the core of nature magic is symbiosis, not plunder, and that extraction and nourishment must be balanced.
Regulus practiced all day long.
During this time, Orion came to the attic once, stood at the door for a moment, and did not disturb him.
Regulus's focused expression reminded him of the focused individuals described in the ancestral notes; only wizards who truly immerse themselves in honing their skills can go far in magic.
Regulus was unaware of his father's visit; he was engrossed in a new discovery: different types of natural magic could coexist for a short period.
He mixed the gentle magic of the white flower with the sharp magic of the thorn flower in a certain proportion and guided it to the wound on his fingertip. The healing speed was faster than using either one alone.
Furthermore, the healed skin is smoother and leaves no faint marks.
This made him realize that the potential of nature magic lies not only in the application of a single attribute, but also in the combination of different attributes.
Then he began to combine natural magic with his own magic.
When casting the Ironclad Spell, he mixed in a small amount of the cool magic of magical mint, so that the defensive barrier could not only resist the impact of the spell, but also alleviate the mental pressure caused by the spell breaking.
He also tried to combine the viscous magic of the sap grass with clear spring water, so that the water could not only extinguish fires but also neutralize mild toxins.
He tested the combination with a small amount of the venomous tentacle's juice, mixing the sap grass's magic into the water and applying it to the fingertips scratched by the venomous tentacles. The redness and itching quickly subsided, proving that the combination was indeed effective.
The path of natural magic is open.
Regulus stayed in the room all day.
Orion knew his son was practicing heritage magic and didn't let anyone disturb him.
In the evening, Walbuga knocked on the door.
"Regulus, it's time for dinner."
At the dinner table, Walbuga first praised Regulus for his performance at the Malfoy family dinner.
"Regulus, you did very well at the Malfoy family dinner." She cut a piece of roasted lamb chop, her tone full of pride. "Composed and proper, you gave the Black family a lot of face."
Regulus kept his head down, chopping the vegetables on his plate, without saying a word.
"I've already made arrangements for the next few days." Walbuga put down his knife and fork and wiped his mouth with a napkin.
"Now that you're on holiday, don't stay cooped up in your room all day. Go out more and get to know the heirs of various families."
The Malfoys, Nott, and Yaxley families will all be working together from now on.
As she spoke of this, her eyes lit up: "The bonds between pure-blood families must be established from childhood, so that they can help each other in the future. This is the foundation of the Black family's glory."
Regulus put down his fork, looked up, and calmly gazed at his mother with his gray eyes: "Mother, I'd rather practice magic now."
Walbuga raised an eyebrow, clearly not expecting him to refute.
"Practice can be taken slowly, but networking is also very important." Walbuga frowned. "The Black family can't rely solely on magic; connections are crucial—"
"Networking relationships are built on a foundation of power," Regulus interrupted her, his tone firm. "If I don't have enough power, they won't even look at me."
Volbuga opened his mouth, wanting to refute, but couldn't find the words, because Regulus was right.
"I'm eleven years old now, and the strength I've shown has already earned their respect. If I become even stronger, strong enough that they look up to me in awe, that's what I'll achieve."
Regulus looked into his mother's eyes: "It won't be me who has to maintain the relationship; it will be them who have to figure out how to please the Black family."
"The glory of purebloods is not maintained by dinner parties, but by a strength that others dare not underestimate. As you know, what that lord values is never who knows whom, but who can provide real value."
Walbuga's expression changed, then she fell silent. What she cared about most in her life was the honor and status of the Black family.
Although she was fanatical about pureblood glory, she was not entirely without reason.
She stared at her son for a few seconds, then finally nodded: "You're right, strength is fundamental."
She changed the subject, her tone softening: "But we can't just focus on practicing. No matter how important magic is, we also need to take care of our bodies."
