Regulus of Hogwarts: Lord of the Stars
Chapter 7 Deep Rift
In the late autumn of 1968, the beech trees in the courtyard of number 12 Grimmauld Place lost their last leaf.
Regulus is seven years old.
The magic-guided cycle training over the past year has yielded remarkable results; he is now stronger, his physique is noticeably improved, his magic perception is more acute, and his control is more refined.
Sirius Black is now eight years old, and his rebellious phase has entered a new stage.
He was no longer content with just talking back; he even began to rebel systematically.
When Walbuca made him recite the family tree, he deliberately mispronounced the names; when he made him practice etiquette, he turned a teacup into a frog; when he made him wear a formal suit, he tore the collar.
During one dinner, Sirius openly questioned the pure-blood theory, enraging Walbuca. Regulus tried to calm things down, but Regulus saw it as an attempt to appease their parents, and the brothers began to speak less and less.
Sometimes Regulus would run into Sirius in the corridor, and Sirius would look at him with a complex expression, a mixture of anger at being betrayed, incomprehension, and a touch of disappointment.
He felt that my choice to choose the family was a betrayal of him, but in some ways, he was right.
On the first weekend of December, Malfoy arrived as promised. Everyone knew his true purpose: Malfoy, representing Voldemort, came to probe the Black family's stance.
Abraxas Malfoy was fifty-five years old, with a well-maintained appearance and long, silver-gray hair neatly tied back.
He wore a dark green robe with intricate snake patterns embroidered in silver thread on the cuffs, and held an ebony cane with a dark green black opal inlaid at the top.
"Wolbuga, you look great." His voice was smooth and pleasant. "Orian, long time no see. How's work in Wisengam?"
Orion sat in the head seat, his tone calm: "As always, what has Mr. Malfoy been up to lately?"
Abraxas picked up his teacup and gently blew on it: "Thinking about the future, the future of the magical world, and our future."
Lucius didn't come, and Regulus speculated that he might be preparing for a more important occasion, such as formally joining the Death Eaters or representing his family in Voldemort's core affairs.
"That lord greatly admires the Black family," Abraxas said, getting to the point. "He said that among the Twenty-Eight Sacred Races, the Black family has the oldest, purest, and most steadfast bloodline."
"Steadfast?" Orion asked.
"In terms of upholding tradition," Abraxas put down his teacup, "many families are wavering these days. The Potters openly associate with Muggle-borns, the Weasleys have almost become synonymous with blood traitors, and the Longbottoms, though pure-blooded, are too weak."
Only the Black family remained steadfast, and that lord believed such a family should occupy its rightful place in the new order.
Volbuga leaned forward slightly: "What specific plans does that sir have?"
Abraxas's voice rose slightly: "Revival! Cleanse the weak elements in the Ministry of Magic, rebuild Wizengamor's authority, and standardize magical education."
Most importantly, establish the dominance of pure-blood wizards and restore the magical world to its proper order.
"That sounds very ambitious," Orion said.
"It's foresight!" Abraxas corrected. "That man possesses not just ambition, but power, knowledge, and the determination to change reality."
He has already gathered a group of like-minded people; the Lestrange, Nott, and Carroll families... have all expressed their support.
"Show support for what?" Sirius suddenly interjected.
Walbuga frowned: "Sirius, when adults are speaking—"
“I’m asking the truth,” Sirius said, staring intently at Abraxas. “Support him in what? Murder? Persecute Muggle-borns? Or turn everyone into his slaves?”
"Sirius!" Walbuga's voice shrieked.
But Abraxas raised his hand to stop her, looking at Sirius with no anger in his eyes.
He said, "It's good that young people have questions. What that great man wants to establish is not tyranny, but order."
Under the new order, everyone will find their place. Pure-blood wizards are born to lead the wizarding world, half-bloods and Muggle-borns can serve, and Muggles will need to be managed.
"Why should we?" Sirius Black stood up agitatedly, shouting, "Why should you decide who leads and who serves?"
Abraxas stated matter-of-factly, "Based on strength, on millennia of heritage, and on the very nature of magic, it is a fact that pure-blood wizards possess more powerful and stable magic."
"I don't think so—" Sirius was about to continue.
Abraxas interrupted him, speaking gently: "You think it doesn't matter, but the rules of the world won't change because of an eight-year-old."
When you grow up and witness firsthand the chaos of the wizarding world, the fear and persecution of magic by Muggles, and how pure-blood families are marginalized, perhaps you will understand.
"What if I never understand?" Sirius's eyes were full of stubborn defiance.
"Then you'll have two choices," Abraxas smiled: "to accept not understanding but to follow the rules, or to be excluded by the rules."
These words were a blatant threat. Sirius's face turned pale, but he gritted his teeth and did not back down.
At this moment, Regulus spoke.
“Mr. Malfoy is right,” he said calmly. “Order needs power to maintain it. If pure-blood wizards do indeed possess greater magical talent, then having us lead the wizarding world will bring about a more stable and powerful society.”
Everyone looked at him.
Volbuga's eyes lit up, but Orion's expression remained unchanged.
Sirius Black stared at Regulus, his gaze shifting from shock to disbelief, and finally to disappointment.
"You think so too?" Sirius's voice trembled slightly, as if he were making a final confirmation.
Regulus met his gaze: "I'm stating the facts. If pure-blood wizards have greater magical talent, then this makes sense."
Sirius Black was about to argue, even more furious now, when Walbuga stood up and shouted, "Sirius Black, go back to your room, now!"
Sirius looked at his mother, then his father, then his brother, and finally at Abraxas, before turning and leaving.
After Sirius left, the atmosphere in the living room actually became more relaxed.
Abraxas picked up his teacup again: "The future of the wizarding world is not limited to Britain, Europe, America, Asia... That person's influence is expanding."
Supporting his family would give them the opportunity to participate in the rebuilding of the global magical order in the future, which would mean resources, knowledge, and power far exceeding what the Ministry of Magic can currently provide.
Regulus couldn't help but complain that Voldemort had big ambitions, aiming for the whole world, but he couldn't even handle Britain.
After a moment of silence, Orion said, "We need time to consider."
Abraxas stood up: "Of course, that lord never forces anyone. There's a small gathering next month in Wiltshire where several like-minded families will exchange ideas. If the Black family is interested, I can extend an invitation."
Walbuga looked at her husband, her eyes filled with expectation.
Orion nodded: "We'll consider it."
After Malfoy left, Walbuga immediately turned to Orion: "We must participate. Abraxas is right, this is an opportunity, and the Black family should take the lead in this new era—"
Orion interrupted her, his voice weary: "Wolbuga, this needs to be done with caution. Everything sounds wonderful, but what will be the cost?"
Among the weak elements he wants to purge may be our friends, or even family members.
"Andromeda is no longer family," Walbuga said coldly.
"And then there's Sirius, if his rebellious streak continues..."
"Then let him go!" Volbuga's voice suddenly rose: "The Black family doesn't need another rebellious son, we have Regulus."
She looked at her second son, her eyes burning with passion: "You spoke very well today. You were rational, logical, and considered the big picture. That's what a Black family heir should be like."
Regulus lowered his head and did not respond.
......
In the attic laboratory, Regulus sat in the dark, without turning on the lights, reflecting on everything that had happened that afternoon.
Abraxas's words revealed several key pieces of information: Voldemort's influence has extended beyond Britain and is expanding globally.
Voldemort tempted pure-blood families with the promise of a future order, offering them power and resources.
Voldemort's methods included the seemingly mild term "cleaning up," but he knew it would be pure violence.
No one knew that Voldemort would ultimately fail, except for himself, and this inevitable outcome was driven by a series of coincidences.
He needs strength.
