Chapter 206 Viral Unrest

The dense, green fog that was everywhere above Gotham City suddenly became restless.

A pair of enormous, metallic gray wings pierced through the dense fog formed from the purest viral gas, and with a flap of their wings, the infected Hawkman fell from the sky.

His limbs were covered with fine down, while the tips of his hands and feet had been lengthened considerably and developed reverse joints, and his fingernails had transformed into dark, shiny claws.

Perhaps it's because before Hawkman's consciousness was completely taken over by the virus, he was attacked and seriously injured by several infected individuals who were targeting his bird-like skeletal evolution.

Therefore, after being infected by the virus, Hawkman's remaining obsession caused the microscopic structure of his internal skeleton to transform into a substance similar to nitrogen metal.

Among them were even many who had made a name for themselves in Gotham City and caused Batman a lot of trouble.

Of course, these beings, whose names used to be enough to stop the night's crying and whose appearances are now even more ferocious and terrifying, now kneel around the hall, guarding their only master to whom they now submit.

"The Justice League failed, and those little guys called the Teen Titans are still on the run."

Seeing that Jason ignored him, the sharp beak of the eagle, which had grown a keratinous sheath under the Hawkman mask, began to hiss mournfully.

The tremendous commotion shattered the already cracked glass on the exterior walls of the top floor of the Wayne Tower. Amid the sound of falling glass shards, Jason finally responded to Hawkman.

"It doesn't matter, they don't have any noteworthy abilities anyway."

Hawkman's round pupils dilated violently.

"Have you forgotten? That instructor from the Teen Titans! The one with superhuman strength!"

Hawkman began to exert force with his limbs, and his huge wings spread out again. With just a gentle flap, the resulting gale caused the metal structural beams at the top of Wayne Tower to rattle and clang.

He could no longer tolerate Jason's perfunctory attitude and began to press him relentlessly for answers.

"Human consciousness is still influencing you! You've been avoiding it, you're intentionally delaying the inevitable—we should have already conquered the world!"

Jason raised his head slightly.

"I----"

"I never wanted to take over the whole world."

Jason's excessively muscular physique caused his vocal cords to widen and thicken, while the red skull mask made his voice even deeper.

"You've been wrong about one thing all along, Hawkman. My consciousness is still under my own control, under Jason Todd's control. I only allowed these viruses to use my body to seek infinity and eternity, but I did not agree to destroy this world!"

Hawkman's flapping wings paused for a brief moment.

His emotions then became even more agitated.

"Consciousness dominated by despicable humans?! You are the source of everything, you are our common master! Why don't you completely erase his consciousness?"

Hawkman's claws dug deep into the metal beams, and with a sudden tug, he ripped open the top of the Wayne Tower.

With a gentle flick, the lid at the top of the Tower of Venn spun out like a boomerang.

Then he flapped his wings and swooped down toward Jason.

"Lord! Let me be your body! Then crush this vile creature into mud!"

But just a second before Hawkman's claws were about to engulf Jason's head, everything inside the tower seemed to freeze in an absolute stillness.

Deep within the eye sockets of the red skull mask, tiny golden lightning bolts flickered in Jason's dark pupils.

He tilted his head slightly, avoiding the sharp tip of Hawkman's outstretched claws, and then took a light step forward, his figure appearing behind Hawkman without a ripple.

"Let me tell you why."

Jason aimed his fist, which was as big as a frying pan, at the back of Hawkman's head.

"Because it can't do it yet, and even now, it's been fighting hard against me, trying to take control of this body and spread the virus all over the world."

"But unfortunately, I think I can delay a little longer."

The fist landed.

The entire Tower of Wayne seemed to tremble, and Hawkman finally stopped yelling and instead embedded himself into the floor in an unfolded posture, like a carpet portrait.

Jason withdrew his fist, and the surrounding tranquility returned to normal. He then put his hands behind his back and walked back to the chair in the center.

The infected people around them, who had been in a submissive posture, seemed to lower their heads even further.

But only Jason knew that some of these infected people had not truly submitted to him.

Especially those characters like the Penguin and Bane after they were infected.

Their will was not completely succumbed either; rather, after merging with the will of the virus, it gave rise to something even stranger.

A sinister and violent personality.

They are neither the original person, nor simply someone who wants to spread their own viral consciousness.

Jason, however, used the original virus to dominate all other viruses, confining them all to this place.

Of course, Jason's inner nature has not been changed; he has always maintained a glimmer of clarity in his heart.

However, as the virus further modified him, the original virus's subjective consciousness attacked more and more fiercely.

Allowing the infected Justice League to go out and hunt down the Teen Titans was Jason's temporary, roundabout compromise with the virus.

If he had continued to be so stubborn, going against the virus's instinct to achieve immortality, then the virus would have already gone all out to try and eliminate Jason.
