Chapter 218 Modern Magic

Mar stepped forward, pulled Mia up from the ground, and hoisted her onto his shoulder.

Li Zhen, who had been keeping a close eye on Mal's movements, raised an eyebrow slightly.

He had no right to influence Mal's choices, nor could he comment on anything, but this kid's move was actually quite convincing.

His gaze swept over everyone, and this time he even deliberately avoided Rachel's gaze.

"You don't need to look at me like that."

Li Zhen turned around and faced the dark green night sky, where the sudden threats she had sensed earlier had come from.

"You are all just mortals, and your presence will only be a hindrance. If I am forced to be distracted in battle to protect you, then I will only fulfill Lilith's prophecy sooner."

After a moment of silence, Li Zhen finally heard the sound of the young Titans walking away, and she felt a sense of relief.

Constantine watched the group of children run away with a crooked eye, and quietly raised his hands. Before he could make any gesture, he heard Li Zhen's cold warning.

"You weren't one of those I was talking about."

"Fuck!"

Constantine cursed under his breath.

"What's the point of leaving me here, just to wait to die with you?"

Li Zhen ignored Constantine's questioning and simply continued to speak, stating a fact in a detached tone.

"From the moment a human brain issues a command to the moment the vocal cords produce a sound, or when a finger begins to move, the time is typically between 30 and 100 milliseconds."

"Even considering that I cannot use power or speed that would destroy the Earth's ecosystem, my neural reactions can always remain at a normal level without needing to be deliberately suppressed. Normal neural reflexes only require 0.007 milliseconds of command action time."

"I've witnessed various styles of teleportation magic more than once, and I assure you that even in the most intense battles, I will always keep a portion of my attention firmly on you."

"If you show any sign of wanting to run away, I will immediately abandon the fight and rush to find you."

Li Zhen didn't want to blindly engage in battle without any prior knowledge. If Luther had known, he would have already developed an antidote. Instead, he was still foolishly fighting the zombie Justice League because he couldn't contact Luther.

That's so stupid.

Therefore, he had to keep Constantine, who could contact the watchtower, by his side in a domineering manner.

"You can only run away after you've confirmed that Luther has done everything. That way, we'll both be safe. Otherwise, the aftershocks of my charge alone, combined with the enemy's combined attack, will be far beyond what your body, which is almost indistinguishable from an Earthling, can withstand."

Li Zhen suddenly turned her gaze and glanced at Constantine with an inscrutable expression.

"Or, there's another possibility: you can simply leave—"

"What's possible?"

Before Constantine could ask any questions, he saw a pair of enormous black bat wings, almost obscuring the night sky, emerge from behind a tall building.

Li Zhen's tone became slightly more hurried, but her expression was more serious than ever before.

"Don't try to break away or move away; you must always stay within my sensing range! If you do anything that approaches the edge, I will come looking for you directly!"

With a swipe of its massive bat claws, several bat darts silently streaked across the night sky, aiming straight for the throats of the two men on the ground.

Li Zhen and Constantine disappeared simultaneously, one after the other. The former dodged by relying on her superior reaction speed, while the latter used an invisibility spell to evade.

Two batarangs, their spinning centers flashing red warning lights, exploded the moment they hit the ground, illuminating a large portion of the dark green night with two enormous fireballs.

Constantine appeared silently on a tall building, gritting his teeth. After spewing out a string of profanities, he tentatively took two steps back.

As a result, Li Zhen's violent killing intent locked onto him in an instant.

Constantine froze, and a few seconds later he frantically grabbed at his beard.

"How am I supposed to know exactly how far your sensing range is!"

Constantine was furious.

His eloquence and deception were completely ineffective in front of Li Zhen. Li Zhen knew him like the back of her hand, and every time she would throw out a bunch of conditions on her own, and then immediately threaten him with death.

There were no sales pitches, no deals, and not even the slightest room for negotiation.

From beginning to end, there was only a naked threat of death, and Constantine felt that this brat was someone who would not hesitate to kill without hesitation.

And then there's magic immunity too.

This pure, unyielding executioner had him completely under his control. Constantine had lost count of how many times he had sworn to himself that he never wanted to see Lee Jung again in his life.

"Why would I make a deal with him outside of time? Or is the emperor and he not even the same person?"

Constantine poked his temple, but there was only a blank space.

"Damn! They deleted everything so cleanly. How come I didn't leave myself a single clue?"

Li Zhen had no idea about Constantine's dilemma; all he needed to do was make sure that the guy didn't turn around and run away.

This wasn't just for himself; after all, Constantine often acted without considering the consequences. Even if the magical shield could protect Constantine from viruses that spread through conventional means, he was probably like Li Zhen, with a lot of viruses attached to him.

Now, Kang might remember this. Once he runs away, he could find some magical place to have a drink and grab a bite, and then, on a whim, teleport to another real-world city. Then all the trouble he caused in Gotham tonight would be for nothing.

Once Constantine stopped fidgeting, Lee Jung shifted her attention back to Batman.

Of course, the Dark Knight can no longer be called Batman.

It looks almost exactly like a giant alien bat. Of course, it's a bit better looking than Gotham Bat, since its bat armor wasn't completely burst and its helmet was still on its head.

It's just that those dark, bulging eyes are a bit creepy.

After landing, the giant bat stopped moving, and at first glance it looked a bit like a huge and terrifying black sculpture.

Li Zhen hid in a small alley, not peeking out, but using the surrounding space to confirm the other person's location.

"Strange, why isn't he moving? Has Batman's consciousness not disappeared yet?"

"Are you two playing some kind of 'Statues' game? You little rascal (more than ten words censored)."

Constantine's voice suddenly rang in Li Zhen's mind.

This completely stunned Li Zhen.

He was unaware that Constantine would pull this stunt.

Is it because cursing at thin air isn't satisfying enough, and you have to use telepathy to get his attention?

"How did you manage to invade my brain?"

Li Zhen spared some mental response.

"Intrusion? Your understanding of magic is as superficial as those old-fashioned Earthlings!"

Constantine was very dismissive.

"Use your brain. You and your girlfriend have used telepathy so many times in front of me. Do you think I can't access your magical channel by simulating your mental fluctuations?"

Li Zhen's expression turned somewhat strange.

This doesn't sound like a description of magic; it sounds more like a hacker describing the process of breaking into a computer.
