The aliens who were picked up by Superman at the beginning
Chapter 29 Rejuvenation
The metal hatch of the Batcave was still warm, and the cold light from the control panel reflected Batman's profile.
The data stream scrolled rapidly across the screen.
"His overall performance has improved by about 3.7 times compared to Bruce Wayne's previous record."
Hal Jordan leaned against the stone wall, turned his head to look at the computer screen in front of Batman, his eyes filled with a hint of shock.
"Since such a race actually exists, I must report this data comparison to Oa, otherwise they might not take Vitrum seriously."
Batman nodded and stepped aside slightly. Hal immediately raised his light ring and briefly read the information on Bat's computer.
The green light ring began transmitting a signal, emitting a faint glow.
After Hal finished transmitting the message, he seemed to remember something more serious, and a look of worry flashed between his brows.
"Moreover, that kid's compatibility signal has probably already been recorded by the Yellow Light Ring, and Seneca will definitely not let go of such a promising talent."
"The Yellow Lantern Legion is currently hiding entirely in the antimatter universe, making even prevention very difficult for us."
His voice took on a somber tone, a stark contrast to his previous carefree manner.
Hal Jordan glanced down at the green light ring, which was flashing at an increased frequency, and his expression relaxed slightly.
"The OAA headquarters will send a few more Green Lanterns, who will arrive in the Galactic Sector by tomorrow morning at the latest. They will be lurking near the solar system and will be able to provide support immediately once they detect the Yellow Lantern Corps' signal again."
Without looking up, Batman lightly tapped the touch panel on the console a few times, bringing up a star map projection of the solar system's periphery, with red warning lines weaving into a net across the stars.
"The Justice League will be responsible for the defense of Earth's interior."
His voice remained low and deep, devoid of any extraneous emotion.
"Li Zhen's dangerous behavior has decreased. I just gave him a communicator. If there are any signs of a Yellow Lantern Legion raid on his end, we will immediately coordinate."
"Don't worry, as soon as they dare to tear open a gap in the antimatter universe, I will intercept and kill them immediately."
Hal raised his hand, and the Green Lantern Ring blazed brightly, enveloping his figure in a beam of green light. He pierced through the hidden exit at the top of the Batcave and vanished into the night sky in an instant.
Silence returned to the cave, and Batman remained staring at the control panel until he heard Nightwing's voice.
Nightwing looked left and right with the empty plate in his hand, then swept away the clutter on the table before putting the plate back down.
He glanced at the empty passageway, his tone tinged with helplessness.
"I tried to strike up a conversation with the girl, but she was more wary than I had expected."
Nightwing reached up and rubbed his temples, adding.
"She remained silent the entire time except when eating steak. When asked about her background or plans, she did not respond at all."
Batman listened quietly; he understood Nightwing's personality.
If Nightwing really didn't get anything out of him, he usually wouldn't waste so much time talking.
They usually just slink away, at most reporting it later through an encrypted channel.
Seeing the man who raised him as stubborn and unyielding as a rock, Nightwing grinned and made a few funny faces behind Batman's back.
He then reported to his supervisor in a more relaxed tone.
"Only when I mentioned Li Zhen to her did the girl say that she helped Li Zhen accept everything he had done in Witrum."
Nightwing shrugged, casually pulled over a stool, and sat down.
That's all, that's it.
Batman finally looked up and switched the monitor in the Batcave lobby. A faint purple magical aura still lingered in the corner.
"Activate 24-hour comprehensive monitoring, keep a close eye on all her movements, and do not allow any oversight."
He raised his hand to put away the monitor and star map projection, then opened an abnormal energy warning program, his tone solemn.
"Before Li Zhen left, he vaguely expressed to me that the girl's situation was similar to his, and that there was a hidden danger behind her that was even more troublesome than that of Vitrum."
Nightwing's expression instantly turned serious. He sprang to his feet, moved closer to the control panel, and stared at the blurry energy trajectory that Batman had displayed.
"More troublesome than Vitrum? Just who is she?"
"Li Zhen said she came to Earth to ask for help, but she refused to reveal the core secrets to us."
Batman's eyes remained sharp, as if this man would never tire, and even when faced with a series of cosmic-level problems, his judgment remained unaffected.
But this time, Batman finally opened that encrypted channel again.
He contacted another person.
"Oracle: Closely monitor the interactions between those two, record any unusual behavior, and report it promptly."
Meanwhile, in the deep alleys of Gotham City, Li Zhen and Rachel were walking side by side.
The streetlights at the alley entrance were old and in disrepair, their light flickering and casting irregular silhouettes of the two figures on the ground.
"Have you eaten?"
Li Zhen turned her head and asked, then smiled as she recalled the plates Ye Yi had been carrying around.
During his stay in Gotham, thanks to the stamina boost from his superpowers, he hadn't been eating on time much, and now he's feeling a bit mentally unaccustomed to it.
Rachel rolled her eyes wide in an undisguised manner.
"Frozen steak doesn't heat up long enough; it's not as soft as bread I make myself."
She paused, her tone becoming somewhat sarcastic.
"Is this what you mean by 'piggybacking' on the wealth of others'?"
Li Zhen was surprised for a few seconds, then laughed twice after figuring it out, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
"You can't blame him for that."
He pointed behind the two of them; the bat cave they had seen before was roughly in that direction.
"Think about it, a hidden outpost tucked away in a sewer under a cliff would definitely prioritize storing food in canned or frozen goods, which are easy to preserve and have a long shelf life. Don't expect good taste from them."
As the two reached the alley entrance, Li Zhen stopped, her usual nonchalant demeanor replaced by a more serious expression.
"Rachel, if you don't want to keep wandering, why don't you join me?"
His tone was sincere, without a trace of probing.
"At least I won't have to steal to fill my stomach anymore, or have to barely spend the night in abandoned corners."
Rachel's eyes suddenly turned cold, and she subconsciously took a half step back. A faint purple magical aura emanated from her body as she warily stared at Li Zhen.
"You've seen my memories, so you should know just how terrifying 'He' really is."
"That demon could break through the dimensional barrier at any moment and come looking for me. Anyone who gets close to me will be swept into endless darkness. Why would you seek your own death?"
Li Zhen was silent for a moment, then raised a finger and shook it.
"The one you mentioned wants to devour Earth, but the fleet from Vitrum may also arrive one day. For this planet, both threats are catastrophic."
Rachel was stunned. She recalled the planetary civilizations in Li Zhen's memory that were crowned with the glory of conquest but were tragically wiped out.
To be honest, while individual Witrumians may not be as strong as Superman, their warriors could easily spare a few to restrain Superman and keep the Justice League occupied.
The remaining Vitrumians would be able to wipe out the rest of the ordinary people on Earth in a very short time.
That overwhelming destructive power was more direct and rapid than the dark corruption of the Three Palace Demon.
She couldn't be sure which of the two disasters would come first.
In other words, her current situation is similar to that of Li Zhen.
Bearing a deadly hidden danger, once the general public becomes aware of it, they will surely be met with fear and rejection.
She understood better than anyone the loneliness of having no one to rely on and nowhere to belong.
Rachel's tense shoulders relaxed slightly, her eyes held a more complex expression, and she no longer resisted Li Zhen's approach.
"So what are your plans for the future?"
She spoke, already agreeing to the idea of the two of them traveling together.
Li Zhen looked up at the night sky.
"Before getting your help, all I wanted was to escape to Earth and eke out a living, because I was constantly haunted by the nightmares of Witrum."
He wasn't exactly a passionate and idealistic person; thirty years of ordinary life at the bottom of society had left an indelible mark on his middle-aged soul.
The outstanding achievements he made on Witrum cannot shake the fact that he has countless times resigned himself to fate and bowed his head to life.
Until the raven stitched the other half of his crimson soul into his brain.
Li Zhencai rediscovered a mindset that he had subconsciously scorned.
"...I want to become stronger than Superman."
He turned to look at Rachel, his expression finally free of any trace of the weariness from the past.
"Prepare for the day when Witrum may come."
Rachel's deadpan gaze remained unresponsive, but she subconsciously asked a question.
"What if they never come?"
"Then I will travel the universe to find them, and if they are not in this universe, I will go to other universes. I will defeat all those who oppose me until Witrum exists in another form."
As soon as she finished speaking, Li Zhen added a sentence.
"Of course, at the very least, I need to be strong enough, or fully prepared."
Just as Li Zhen was excitedly about to ask Rachel what she thought, she saw Rachel staring at her with an almost idiotic look, a hint of disdain on her lips.
"Who's asking you about these vague and abstract things?"
Rachel rolled her eyes, her tone blunt and unforgiving.
"I'm asking where you're going to live next. When I'm alone, I don't mind living in a warehouse or hiding in the sewers, but you said you can't keep living like this..."
She paused for a moment, then posed a more practical question.
"And then there's the food. I can't keep relying on stealing, or occasionally mooching Batman's frozen steaks, can I?"
Li Zhen's resolute expression froze instantly, and she coughed awkwardly twice.
"Well... I have an escape pod. It's not very big, but if I tidy it up, it'll be big enough for two people to stay in."
"As for food, don't worry, I can catch fish, you won't starve."
Rachel sighed and remained silent, seemingly accepting the arrangement that sounded hopeless and unappealing.
After walking a distance, Rachel suddenly added something.
"I really regret helping you. Your soul is no longer appealing; you're so young it's nauseating."
