"Chen Jianguo, you have absolutely no manners."

Chen Deshun glanced at Chen Jianguo, a faint smile on his face: "Your grandparents came all this way, aren't you going to invite them upstairs for a seat and some hot water? What's the point of making them stand downstairs waiting like that?"

After saying that, Chen Deshun walked between the elderly couple, gently supporting one of them with one hand, and said with a very considerate smile: "Mom and Dad, you've never been to an apartment building before, have you? Let's go up and take a look, see what the inside of the apartment looks like, and what kind of belongings the young people have acquired."

Grandma Shen's eyes lit up: "I've only ever heard how wonderful the apartment buildings in the city are, but I'm so old and I've never been inside one."

The old man, hands behind his back, said with great interest, "Come on, let's go upstairs and have a look around!"

"Grandpa, Grandma, upstairs... upstairs is messy, it hasn't been cleaned up!" Chen Jianguo's expression changed slightly as he stammered, trying to find an excuse.

He didn't really want his grandparents to come upstairs to his house. One reason was that the house was small, but more importantly, his wife, Liu Rui, didn't like outsiders touching their things.

The elderly couple came from the countryside and had never seen much of the world. If they got dirty or damaged, Liu Rui would have a hard time explaining it when he got home from get off work.

"What's the big deal!" Old Mrs. Shen waved her hand dismissively. "Your grandpa used to fight with dogs for a kennel, and he slept in the cowshed and pigsty. How could he complain about your house being messy? Even if it's messy, it's still better than where the livestock live, right?"

"We're not outsiders. If no one's cleaning up your place, I'll have your grandma do some cleaning for you later," the old man chimed in.

As soon as they finished speaking, the elderly couple stepped onto the cement steps.

Chen Jianguo sighed, his face looking like he'd swallowed a fly, but he didn't dare to say anything and could only quickly follow.

The group went up to the fourth floor, and Chen Jianguo took out his key to open the door.

The house wasn't big, with one bedroom, one living room, and one bathroom, but it was spotless and not dirty at all.

The floor was smooth cement, the walls were painted snow-white, and there was a nearly new cabinet with a radio on top.

What surprised the elderly couple the most was the gleaming faucet and toilet in the bathroom.

Chen Deshun didn't seem to care much about these things; he was used to them.

After all, he had personally witnessed how rapidly the country and city would develop in the future.

Since the reform and opening up, China has completed the industrialization process that took Western developed countries hundreds of years in just a few decades.

As urbanization becomes more widespread in the future, buildings will become increasingly taller, with some exceeding a hundred stories, making it quite time-consuming to even take an elevator.

The most famous one is the Lujiazui Tower in Shanghai, which has 119 floors and a total height of 632 meters, making it the tallest in China and the second tallest in the world.

It takes about one minute to go from the bottom floor to the top floor by taking the high-speed sightseeing elevator.

The five-story building where Chen Deshun lives may look nice now, but compared to the high-rise buildings of the future, it is no different from an adobe house.

The old man couldn't help but reach out and touch the faucet, then turned to examine the toilet for a long time, muttering, "The lives of city people are just different, just so different..."

Grandma Shen also wandered around the house, touching this and looking at that.

Chen Jianguo felt his vanity greatly satisfied looking at his grandparents' naive and unworldly appearance.

He pretended to pour water for the group, and then sneaked into the bedroom when no one was looking.

In the bedroom, she quietly opened the cabinet door and took out a wad of money wrapped in a handkerchief from a cookie box at the very back.

This is his salary that he just received today.

"My dear grandson, where have you been? What are you doing hiding in the house?"

Old Mrs. Shen's voice could be heard outside, sounding like she might push the door open and come in at any moment.

Startled, Chen Jianguo quickly stuffed all the money into his pocket, threw the empty cookie box under the cabinet, and walked out as if nothing had happened.

"Nothing much." He chuckled dryly, changing the subject: "Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, it's getting late, let's go get some roast duck!"

Liu Rui was still angry that he hadn't cooked breakfast. The soy milk and fried dough sticks he bought outside had already been digested. Since he couldn't escape this meal anyway, he might as well finish it quickly and have a good meal so he could get on with his business.

The four of them went out the door and headed straight for the bus stop.

Although it was noon, there were still quite a few people waiting for the bus. After finally squeezing onto one, the bus was packed with people, and it was hard to find a place to stand.

Chen Deshun helped the elderly couple squeeze through the back of the carriage for a long time before finally finding them seats towards the back.

Chen Jianguo was blocked by the car door, smelling the car full of sweat and smoke. He was constantly being pushed and shoved, and his face was long and disgusted.

The bus swayed and bumped along, stopping and starting, and it took almost half an hour to finally reach Qianmen Street.

As soon as I got off the bus, a lively and bustling atmosphere hit me.

On the wide road, cars and bicycles jingled and clattered as they shuttled back and forth.

Shops lined both sides of the road, from state-run stores to private stalls, with shouts and calls of vendors rising and falling.

The elderly couple were so overwhelmed by the bustling scene before them that they couldn't take it all in. They looked around, finding everything new and exciting.

Even Chen Jianguo was a little stunned.

He usually lives a life that goes back and forth between home and work. When he has a rare holiday, he just wants to stay at home and sleep with his wife. He had no idea that things had changed so much around Qianmen.

"Where is the roast duck restaurant?"

Grandma Shen tugged at Chen Deshun's sleeve, stood on tiptoe, and peered around, searching for the sign of the roast duck restaurant.

Chen Deshun pointed to an antique-style archway not far away: "It's right there, Quanjude!"

In February 1980, the Beijing roast duck restaurant officially restored the time-honored brand name "Quanjude".

Many people may not have eaten at Quanjude, but they have certainly heard of it.

Quanjude was founded in 1864, which was the third year of the Tongzhi reign.

It is famous for its innovative "hanging oven roast duck" technique, which is the source of almost all hanging oven roast duck techniques at that time. It has a pioneering position in the industry and was an important venue for state banquets in the early days of the People's Republic of China.

By this time, Quanjude had already opened several branches in Beijing.

However, only two are the most famous: one is the Hepingmen store, and the other is the Qianmen store in front of us.

The Hepingmen branch was built under the personal instruction of Zhou Enlai. It was a seven-story building and the largest roast duck restaurant at the time, often used to receive important foreign guests.

The Qianmen store is the oldest original store, and it still retains the century-old wall that was built in 1901. It has the deepest historical heritage and was later officially recognized as a "cultural relic protection unit".

Looking in the direction Chen Deshun pointed, a three-story antique-style building stood in front of them, with the "Quanjude" signboard in gold on a black background standing out.

The entrance was bustling with traffic, with bicycles and cars crowding together, and people coming and going in an endless stream. Just looking at its grandeur, you could tell it wasn't a place that ordinary people could afford.

Chen Deshun breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the long queue at the entrance.

It has been less than three days since I was reborn.

Although he had confirmed that this was reality and not a dream, his memory and brain had not yet fully aligned, and some information gaps had not been sorted out.

Take, for example, Quanjude in Qianmen. Such time-honored brands were extremely popular at the time. Whenever they opened for business, there were almost always long queues outside.

As a national culinary icon, Quanjude in Qianmen also undertakes foreign affairs reception tasks.

If there are plans to receive foreign guests on that day, the business may not be open to the public, and ordinary customers will be turned away.

Judging from the scene at the restaurant entrance, even though it was well past lunchtime, the queue was still incredibly long.

It's clear that today's business is for individual customers, so this trip wasn't a wasted trip.

The old man clicked his tongue and secretly glanced at Chen Jianguo beside him: "Eating in this place must cost a lot of money, right?"
