As they flew over the old, uneven red brick chimneys in the West District, Xiu En's back, which had been straightened to maintain his divinity, gradually hunched over.
He hovered below the clouds, like a golden thunderstorm ball caught in a hurricane, stumbling but moving at great speed as he swept over the heads of the dripping beasts.
Xiu En never expected that simply dispersing a portion of his golden energy would cause his golden energy to surge violently.
The dozens of golden energy seeds that had just been distributed were like opening a valve in the body.
"Cough... Hah..."
Hugh hovered below the smog-shrouded clouds of Gotham, his fingers tucked into his windproof jacket as he clutched his chest.
With each breath, that familiar burning sensation flows backward through the trachea, grinding against the lung walls as I breathe.
The golden energy in the lungs and internal organs, which had been barely suppressed by the golden pill and the Longevity Scripture, began to grow and spread wildly, seemingly trying to strengthen it to the limit of what this body could withstand.
He closed his eyes and began circulating the "Shaohao Longevity Scripture" to suppress the pain, attempting to reintroduce the raging metal river into his lungs. Pain was inevitable, but Xiu En was already used to it.
Shuen pressed the headset, his smile widening even more than usual, his voice as steady as if he were simply having tea on the sofa at Wayne Manor.
Good evening, boss.
He looked down at the city, divided by black and neon lights, and spoke in a light tone.
"The trash in the west area was just cleaned up. It's environmentally friendly and pollution-free; we didn't even need a broom. By the way, you should have received the signal by now, right? Are any of the little mice's spots lit up again?"
There was a half-second silence on the other end, clearly indicating that they were using some kind of biological monitoring method to check Xiu En's heart rate, which had spiked to 280.
But in the end, what came through was still that reassuring, deep voice.
"The old clock tower in the North District. There's an unusual heat source there. Its movement over the past few minutes has been very strange; it doesn't seem to be running away, but rather building a nest."
"The clock tower?"
Xiu En took a deep breath.
"Alright, although this place is a bit out of the way, I hope this friend who's still awake won't be as susceptible to the sun as that battery Dracula from before. After all, my radiance is getting brighter and brighter now."
"Two more blocks. If I were you, I'd put the late-night snack Ah Fu made in the microwave right now. Don't make me go back and eat something cold."
The next second, the golden sphere in the air suddenly lengthened, leaving a blinding trail of flame as it hurtled towards the eerie, ancient clock tower in Gotham's North District.
On the spire of the clock tower in the North District, there once stood a colossal creature covered in gray-green scales.
The killer crocodile was preparing to teach the large bat that had disturbed his rest a lesson from the swamp, using its sharp claws.
But just as he raised his head and roared from above, the intense golden light overhead, which seemed to scorch his skin, caused him to instantly close all his nictitating membranes.
"Damn it, there's actually sunshine here?"
His reptilian instincts overwhelmed his ferocity as a Gotham criminal.
Without any hesitation or even uttering a harsh word, the killer crocodile nimbly flipped its massive body and leaped off the tower.
With a whoosh, he flung open the largest manhole cover and plunged into the dark, damp depths of the sewer without looking back. Before closing the cover, he even caught a hapless rat to eat, muttering to himself how Gotham was going crazy—the sun was shining at night!
"They run pretty fast. Looks like they don't have to hold back anymore when it comes to protecting wild animals."
Xiu En hovered in the air, looking at the manhole cover that was quickly and tightly closed, and nodded in satisfaction.
His rapidly growing and stronger golden energy was being forcibly suppressed back into his lungs by the Shaohao Longevity Scripture, which caused him to land on the bell tower platform like a branding iron that had just been fired, instantly scalding the moss and rainwater that had accumulated for decades around him, turning it curled and white, and emitting wisps of white steam.
He carefully avoided the stone handrails that looked like they were about to weather away; although he was now indestructible, this building was clearly not.
"Boss, just letting you know, I'm about to go in."
Xiu En spoke into the air, but only a faint electrical hum could be heard in the earphones.
"Also, if the bell inside rings a little off-time later, don't deduct my bonus. This is a centuries-old artifact, I'll try to be gentle."
He pushed open the rusty iron door.
The interior of the clock tower is very large, with countless gears and chains intersecting in the darkness.
And on those huge bronze bell beams, a giant creature hangs upside down.
Unlike the previous cyborg that merely resembled a vampire, this creature possessed membranous wings like a pterosaur, protruding fangs, and eyes that glowed crimson in the darkness.
Upon seeing Xiu'en, the still faintly glowing source of light, enter, it suddenly spread its large wings and emitted a teeth-grinding screech, attempting to scare away the intruder with its size and sound.
"This is my lair!"
The sound had overlapping echoes.
"A den? If you were a legal homeowner who paid property taxes, I might knock on the door. But unfortunately, your illegal construction is blocking the light."
Xiu En didn't even stop walking.
He raised one hand, and the raging Gengxin metal energy in his palm condensed into a golden arm armor with ancient patterns on his arm.
That is the embodiment of the concept of the Autumn Commander and the one who administers punishments, which originates from the bloodline of Shao Hao.
Direct use of light may affect this building.
And since they are pests, they should be executed.
"Hooohoo!"
The winged vampire pounced down suddenly, moving so fast that it left only a blur.
But in mid-air, it was horrified to discover that the luminous human was still smiling, and that smile sent its instincts, as a creature of the night, into a frenzy.
Xiu En simply delivered a hook punch.
But this punch, imbued with the blazing flames of the Golden Crow, the most powerful and yang energy, and the indestructible golden energy of Shaohao, not only shattered the monster's skull the moment it touched its face, but also injected a rule that forbids the existence of darkness into every single cell of its body.
The monster wasn't even knocked away and damaged the gears.
Its head vaporized and disappeared the instant it made contact with the fist. The remaining huge body, though still rushing forward due to inertia, was burned into a clump of carbon powder no bigger than a fingernail by the golden flames that Xiu En then spewed out.
The whole process was eerily quiet; the enormous bronze bell didn't even sway once. Only the verdigris on its surface was baked back to a brand-new brass color by the intense heat.
Xiu En shook the ashes off his hands, looked up at the huge gear that was still slowly turning, and was in a good mood.
"Done, job done."
