American comics: Praising the sun, starting from Gotham!
Chapter 148 The inherently evil capitalist actually gave my partner a day off.
The sunlight in the metropolis is much brighter than in Gotham.
Even in a relatively open space like a private airport, the restless atmosphere of a modern metropolis still hits you along with the heatwave.
But what arrived even faster than the heatwave was Louise Lane.
The Daily Planet's Pulitzer Prize winner, at this moment, calmly pushed aside a Wayne security guard who was trying to stop her.
She didn't even bring a photographer, which can only mean one thing: this was private espionage, or rather, exclusive interrogation.
As for how she knew Bruce's schedule?
I think this probably has nothing to do with Superman.
"Mr. Wayne, Mr. Shum."
"Just ten minutes ago, the NSA detected unusual gravitational wave signals over Kansas. And you suddenly landed in Metropolis at this time. It's hard not to make connections."
Bruce maintained his charming playboy smile and turned his head slightly to look at Hugh beside him.
This action subtly handed over the power of discourse.
Hugh interrupted Louise's impending second round of bombardment.
"It's a holiday, Ms. Lane."
As Xiu En descended the gangway, his trench coat fluttered in the strong wind generated by the propeller.
"Furthermore, as an advisor representing the major shareholder holding 51% of your newspaper's shares, I have the right to inquire about the status of my employees."
He walked up to Louise and asked with interest, "Where's that big guy? Clark Kent. I heard he works in journalism too. Why didn't I see him carrying your bag?"
"Clark?"
Louise was taken aback, clearly struggling to keep up with this sudden shift in thought.
"He's...he's following up on municipal news, I don't think that's related to the current situation."
"It's relevant now."
"Tell that big guy he's on vacation. Paid, double pay, effective immediately. The reason? Is it a company-sponsored research trip? No, the reason is that the company needs him to stay out of the news center for the next 48 hours, even if the sky falls."
"Wait, are you crazy?"
Louise's eyes widened.
"Right now, when we're short-staffed, you're giving my partner a day off?"
"Hey, you still know he's your partner, but you didn't bring him this time! And it's precisely because it's going to be chaotic that we can't let an intern who spills coffee on his shirt cause trouble here."
Xiu En spouted nonsense with an air of self-righteousness, while the sunflower on his shoulder nodded in agreement.
"Furthermore, as a compassionate advisor, I feel he should enjoy life to some extent. For example, going back to his hometown to see his mother, or wearing tighter clothes to the gym?"
Bruce then took over the conversation, took a check out of his pocket, and slipped it into the pocket of Louise's suit jacket.
"Mr. Shum means that some occasions are too dangerous or too boring for some people. And we would much rather see you, Ms. Lane, reporting the real big news, rather than having your pages diluted by a reporter who hasn't even been officially hired yet."
The two most troublesome men in Gotham bypassed the bewildered ace reporter with remarkable ease and headed towards the long-awaited stretch Lincoln.
Only after the car door closed did Hugh's voice drift lightly to Louise's ears through the half-lowered window.
"Remember to tell him that this leave is mandatory. If I see that big guy with glasses still stupidly taking notes on the street, I'll deduct your perfect attendance bonus."
The car window rolled up, and Louise was clutching the recording pen in her hand.
A few seconds later, she suddenly pulled out her phone and said through gritted teeth:
"Hey big oaf, congratulations! Our boss, who doesn't really care about anything, just got off the plane and went on a crazy trip and granted you mandatory leave. If I were you, I'd find somewhere to hide right now, or do something important that's supposed to be done on this damn leave!"
The extended Lincoln's sound insulation is so good that it makes you wonder if it can even block out the sound of an apocalyptic explosion.
Bruce pressed a hidden button beneath the car's refrigerator, and the center floor of the luxury car slowly rose, revealing a black tactical box.
Plan B.
The lid popped open, revealing a row of crystals emitting a faint green glow within specially made lead glass tubes, as well as several heavily modified tactical launchers.
The unsettling green fluorescent light filled the entire carriage.
Xiu En glanced at the expensive stones and shrank back with a hint of disgust.
"Boss, your taste is consistently terrible."
Xiu En frowned.
"The radiation from this stone smells like socks that haven't been washed in ten thousand years—it's pungent and irritating. Compared to that red cape, this thing feels more like a biological weapon to me."
"This isn't a snack for you."
Bruce was checking the data of one of the weapons, which resembled a grenade launcher.
"This is a bargaining chip. Clark already knows this, and not only has he not objected, he even feels that having this would at least allow him to sleep more soundly."
"That's because he's stupid."
Xiu En complained.
"Getting dizzy and lightheaded from this kind of radiation and then getting beaten up, what kind of weird fetish is that?"
"That's because he's stupid."
Xiu En complained.
"Getting dizzy and lightheaded from this kind of radiation and then getting beaten up, what kind of weird fetish is that?"
Just as this academic discussion about whether Kryptonians have masochistic tendencies was about to begin, Shu En's eye twitched suddenly.
The sunlight that had been streaming in through the car window seemed to have vanished without a trace, as if someone had pulled the switch.
The entire metropolitan skyline was swallowed by a sense of oppressive shadow.
Asphalt road surface.
Glass curtain wall.
There were also pedestrians eating hot dogs on the roadside.
Everything was stained with a layer of apocalyptic dark gray.
"Brake!"
The driver had already brought the Lincoln to a smooth stop on the side of the road.
All the vehicles in front stopped as if they were bewitched.
People rushed to open the car doors, pointing in terror at the sky.
There, a massive black ship, resembling a floating city, hovered in near-Earth orbit, recklessly tearing through the clouds.
"How dare they block the sun!"
Xiu En's originally lazy gaze instantly became more dangerous than the kryptonite in the car.
He straightened his collar and said in a chilling tone, "This is practically a provocation."
In that instant, everything—from the recorder in Louise's hand to the smartphone in a passerby's hand, from the row of analysis screens in front of Bruce to the center console of this luxury car, and even all the giant GG screens in the sky—turned into a sea of static.
A few seconds later, the piercing static interference dominated the world.
A blurry, distorted voice, speaking in almost every major language on Earth, hijacked every speaker.
"You are not alone."
You are not alone.
In this apocalyptic broadcast.
Bruce lifted the emergency panel under the car seat and pulled out a mechanical sight without any electronic components, his eyes displaying the cold, hard look unique to Batman.
"This means that the real cleanup work has begun."
Ivy: "That damn big black spaceship not only blocked the light, but it was also emitting a wavelength that made even the soil in this pot want to vomit!"
The sunflower leaves tightly cover both sides of the flower head.
"Xiu En, be careful!"
"rest assured."
Xiu En opened the car door, and in that instant, the huge black spaceship was reflected in his golden pupils, and his killing intent and the fire of the sun god ignited simultaneously.
