Chapter 22 The Self-Cultivation of a Flashlight

Bruce led Hugh out of the laboratory through the automatic doors and forward.

"So does the executive lunch really include steak? I bet it's not processed meat."

As he walked, Xiu En cautiously surveyed his surroundings, trying to find any flaws in the smooth walls.

"It would be even better with some garlic butter. But speaking of which, how much did you spend on the renovations? It looks more solid than those bank vaults outside."

"The walls here can withstand conventional small-scale directional blasts."

Bruce didn't even turn his head.

The tone was as if he were describing the fence of his own backyard.

"Lunch included Kobe beef tenderloin, but Afu doesn't like guests eating too much garlic. He believes it's disrespectful to the taste buds."

"That's such a shame."

Xiu En sighed dramatically.

"Looks like I'll have to make do with red wine."

Just as he was imagining the feast that was about to begin, the pain in his lungs intensified.

"Well……"

Xiu En stumbled and almost instinctively grabbed the cold wall beside him.

So he took out the reagent and tilted his head back to drink it down.

The cool liquid slid down his throat and instantly suppressed the flames raging inside him.

But this balance lasted for less than three seconds.

The medicine not only failed to calm the agitation, but the relatively mild Geng-Xin metal energy from the hair dye went completely berserk under the stimulation of this external force.

"Damn it!"

Xiu En only had time to utter one word before the stable and gentle halo above his head suddenly began to flicker wildly, like an old light bulb with a faulty connection.

The golden light flickered, transforming the entire corridor into a late-night disco scene.

His body felt like it was being roasted over a fire; his skin rapidly heated up, turning bright red, and even tiny wisps of white steam escaped from the gaps in his hospital gown.

[Merging process in progress... Failed.]

[The enforcement protocol is... attempting to assimilate the external energy...]

Assimilation success rate: 37%...

[Advance distribution of reward: "Basic Qi Cultivation Techniques - Poison Refining Therapy Chapter"]

[Technique Description: All things possess a spirit, and all poisons are medicine. This technique can forcibly refine substances identified as poison by the system into the host's own energy. Note: The refining process is extremely painful and has a certain chance of causing meridians to rupture. Please use this technique with caution.]

"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!"

Xiu En bent over in pain, clutching his clothes tightly to his chest with both hands.

"The energy radiation index exceeds the safety threshold by 300%! The body surface temperature is 78 degrees Celsius and is continuing to rise!"

Bruce stopped when Shuen let out his first cry of pain.

There was no panic on his face. Instead, with a calm and ruthless speed, he pulled out a palm-sized analyzer from a portable device at his waist and pointed it at Xiu En, who was convulsing on the ground.

A series of complex data scrolled rapidly on the small holographic projection screen in front of him.

"Activate emergency quarantine protocol."

Bruce spoke into the communicator on his wrist.

He reached out and grabbed Xiu En by the back of his hospital gown, then strode toward a metal door that had just slid open silently on the side of the corridor.

Behind that door was a small room with a completely different style from the outside. The walls were made of an unknown energy-absorbing material, which could not reflect even a ray of light.

Ah, so this is the room I need? Xiu En, though in pain, still subconsciously made a comment.

He threw the agonizing Xiu En directly into the infernal chamber.

boom!

The heavy metal door closed again.

"Listen! Whatever is happening inside your body, control that energy!"

"This room can absorb all forms of overflowing energy. You'd better figure things out yourself before you blow my medical center to smithereens. I'll be watching you."

In the pitch-black room, Xiu En was the only source of light. The golden light emanating from his body was extremely unstable due to the intense pain, sometimes expanding into a huge sphere of light, and sometimes shrinking to just a tiny spark.

"Easy for you to say, I'm almost done..."

Xiu En gritted his teeth, frantically replaying the description of the cultivation technique that the system had just given him in his mind.

Poison refining...refining...

He had no other choice.

Xiu En forced himself to sit cross-legged.

He closed his eyes and used his mind to feel the two energies within his body that were fighting fiercely.

He tried to stop suppressing them and instead guided the golden energy to devour the blue energy.

Each tiny fusion caused Xiu En excruciating pain as if his meridians were being torn apart, but he could only endure it. Sweat had already soaked through his thin hospital gown, evaporating into white mist on the scorching floor.

Outside the isolation room, Bruce Wayne stood in front of a huge one-way observation window.

On the holographic screen, the chaotic energy spectrum within Xiu En's body began to tend towards a completely new and stable structure under his guidance.

In the pitch-black isolation room, Xiu En's consciousness sank and floated in a painful purgatory, each second feeling like an eternity.

He clung desperately to the last vestige of clarity in his mind, clumsily transforming himself into a furnace, following the guidance of that sudden "Drug Addiction Therapy" manual.

Heavy, burning breaths replaced the painful groans.

The golden sharpness was no longer a simple tearing motion, but rather carried a tyrannical will, forcibly imprinting its own attributes onto the blue energy bit by bit.

Xiu En felt as if his internal organs had been turned inside out and cleaned.

He could even see that the wisps of dark blue energy gradually lost their original form under the burning of the golden flames, turning into the purest nutrients that were absorbed by the greedy Gengxin metal energy.

After an unknown amount of time, the last trace of blue energy was completely assimilated.

The excruciating pain receded like the tide, replaced by an unprecedented lightness and clarity.

Xiu En slowly opened his eyes, every inch of his flesh and blood brimming with explosive power.

The sluggish feeling caused by the metallization of the lungs has disappeared without a trace, and breathing has become long and powerful. I can even feel the dust particles floating in the air.

[System notification: Congratulations, host, on successfully refining the potion.]

[Rewards: Gengxin Metal Qi reserves +10%, Lung Metal Backlash permanently reduced by 15%. Skill "Exhalation to Soldiers" refinement increased. Special ability unlocked: Energy Shaping (Beginner).]

"Energy shaping?"

Xiu En subconsciously raised his head, and the halo above his head looked like a small sun.

He tried to concentrate and imagine the changes in the halo.

The next second, the round halo seemed to come alive, extending upwards from both sides and quickly transforming into two long rabbit ears.

The rabbit ears, made of golden light, could even sway gently according to his thoughts.

Xiu En almost burst out laughing.

"This thing is actually quite fun."

With a thought, the rabbit ears quickly retracted, returning to their original halo form.

He tried again, transforming the halo into a small crown, a wobbly angel halo, and even a pixelated "?" symbol.

Outside the isolation room, Bruce Wayne had been frowning for hours.

On the holographic screen, the two-color spectrum representing the chaotic entanglement of energy within Xiu En's body merged into one after experiencing an extremely violent fluctuation.

The blue spectral lines that originally represented the reagent were completely swallowed up, leaving only the gold spectrum with an energy level several orders of magnitude higher than before.

"A fusion of heterogeneous energies, and a benign fusion of one-way absorption."

Bruce muttered to himself, his fingers flying across the virtual keyboard, backing up the entire incredible data stream and encrypting it with triple security.

"The patient's vital signs are stable, cell activity has significantly increased, and no negative rejection reaction has been detected. He...ate it?"

Just then, he saw the pair of rabbit ears that had appeared above Shuen's head through the one-way observation window.

He silently zoomed in on the analyzer's lens, recording the pair of trembling light-powered rabbit ears, and added a new label to the document—"High-risk, shape-controllable light-powered weapon (?)".
