Chapter 254 Echoes
Shuen arrived at the spot where Kate and Maya had fallen.
Kate was leaning against a broken pillar, her arm cut open, blood soaking her sleeve, but a smile of relief graced her face.
Allow.
Maya huddled in the shadows on the other side, her joints, which had been dislocated and then put back in place, were covered in large bruises and swelling. Every breath aggravated the injuries to her internal organs, causing intense pain, but her eyes were filled with nothing but blankness.
Xiu En hovered above them and raised his hand.
A warm, pure golden light poured down from his palm, completely enveloping Kate and Maya.
Kate felt a warm current flow through her body along the wound.
She watched as the wound on her arm began to heal, the bloodstains evaporated and disappeared, and her skin returned to its original smoothness.
Maya's experience was even more intense.
The golden light not only healed all her internal and external injuries, but also seemed to flow through her throat with a will.
The vocal cord tissue is remodeled and regenerated...
She felt something in her throat.
Some things she didn't have, but everyone else does.
After doing all this, Shuen floated back to Clint's side.
Clint was leaning against his desk, panting heavily.
"Well done."
A beam of golden light shone on Clint.
The broken ribs were put back in place, the sprains and internal bleeding were healed one by one, and all the old injuries that had accumulated over the years, belonging to both Hawkeye and Ronin, were swept away by this power at this moment.
Clint felt as if he had suddenly become ten years younger, returning to the peak of his physical function.
Just as he was shocked by these changes in his body, he heard a voice.
A strange sound.
"Ho...ah..."
The sound was strange, and it came from a girl who had just stood up and was touching her throat with a blank expression.
Maya Lopez.
She opened her mouth as if to say something, but she didn't know how to control those unfamiliar muscles or how to coordinate her breathing.
She tried to make a sound, but could only produce a series of incomprehensible breaths.
For someone who has been unable to speak since childhood, the instinct to speak has long since vanished.
A look of panic crossed her face.
She looked helplessly at Clint, then at Kate, and then at the golden figure floating in mid-air.
Finally, she gave up trying for the time being.
She raised her hands and used sign language to express her feelings in Xiu En's direction.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Xiu En waved his hand.
"Excellent performances deserve appropriate compensation. I'm just a fair audience member."
Clint stood up, feeling full of power, but his heart was empty.
He walked over and, from beside Kingpin's massive corpse, gathered the ordinary training arrow.
He stared at the arrow for a very long time.
For him, the strongest bow could only ever be the reason he had to return to, the reason called home.
"Let's go back."
He said to Kate and Maya.
"Just like that, you're leaving?"
Kate looked at Kingpin's body and the messy office.
"Doesn't this area need some work done?"
"S.H.I.E.L.D. will handle it." Clint shook his head and dialed Hill's encrypted communication.
"Hill, it's me. Target cleared."
He simply said one sentence.
On the other end of the phone, Hill clearly needed some time to process the information conveyed by the combination of Kingpin and being eliminated.
Is it clean?
She only asked this one question in the end.
"Very clean."
"Understood. You may withdraw. The follow-up team will arrive in fifteen minutes. Patton, well done. Welcome...home."
As the black car drove through the streets of New York again, church bells rang in the distance.
Although Christmas has passed, warm lights still shine from the windows of every household outside the car window, and colorful lights and wreaths are hung on the shops along the street.
This city, and everything they experienced in the Colosseum, seemed like two completely different worlds.
Kate sat in the passenger seat, leaning wearily against the back of the seat, but her face was beaming with a genuine smile.
Maya leaned against the window in the back seat, looking at the heartwarming scenes of families reuniting outside, her emotions a mix of feelings.
Xiu En sat silently to the side.
"Here you are."
Clint suddenly handed something from the driver's seat to Shuen in the back seat.
That was a wrench.
"What?"
Xiu En was somewhat puzzled.
"A token of gratitude should be exchanged. You cured us, so I should also show my appreciation."
He actually took Xiu En's theory about eating metal seriously.
Xiu En looked at the wrench.
Ivy the sunflower covered her flower head with her leaves, unable to bear looking at it.
Xiu En fell silent. At least some bullets would have been fine. Even Xiu En couldn't quite understand this train of thought.
Then, he took the wrench, broke off a small piece, and put it in his mouth.
"The taste is alright."
"It has a human touch."
"The taste is alright."
"It has a human touch."
"Thank you for the iron."
Shuen, holding a wrench, spoke to Clint in a very serious tone.
Then, without waiting for the other person to react, he gently patted Clint's jacket.
The next second, the whole world turned into a flowing golden light in the eyes of Clint, Kate, and Maya.
When their vision returned to normal, the black car had stopped on a lawn covered in snow.
Before us stood a two-story wooden house.
Snow covered the rooftops and window sills, smoke was billowing from the chimneys, and orange light shone through the windows.
A Christmas wreath with twinkling colored lights hangs on the front porch of the wooden house.
This is Barton Farm.
Clint's real home.
As soon as the car came to a stop, the door of the wooden house was pushed open.
A gentle woman wearing an apron rushed out quickly.
That was Clint's wife, Laura Barton.
She saw the man she had been longing for getting out of the driver's seat.
"Clint! You're late!"
She rushed forward, hugged him tightly, and buried her face deeply in his chest.
Immediately afterwards, the three children, like three happy little birds, rushed out of the house screaming.
"dad!"
"Dad, you're back!"
"Dad, did you bring a present?"
They laughed and joked, throwing themselves into Clint's arms, clinging to his arms and legs, welcoming their belated Santa Claus.
Clint knelt in the snow, letting the children crawl all over his body like little monkeys.
His usually tense and wary face relaxed at this moment, revealing a gentle smile.
He kissed each child's forehead.
Here, there is only home.
The rear window rolled down silently.
Hugh, Kate, and Maya simply watched the almost unreal, heartwarming scene unfold on the porch.
Kate blushed slightly, feeling like an intruder peeping into someone else's family privacy, and fidgeted awkwardly with her bowstring.
Maya watched without saying a word.
She looked at Laura's smile, at the children's innocent chatter, and at Clint's unguarded fatherly demeanor.
So she chose to close her eyes.
Sunflower's expression, however, was full of confusion.
"Are they all alive?"
The sunflower tilted its head and seemed to be talking to Xiu En.
"Everyone, small and large, is perfectly fine. What happened?"
She clearly remembered Clint saying that his family had all disappeared because of Thanos' snap and had become Ronin.
But these people are clearly real; their vital signs and the light of their souls are incredibly vibrant.
"Time, Little Flower. Have you forgotten that this thing can be corrected?"
Xiu En explained to Ivy in a low voice.
"At this point in time, it's already after the snap was reversed. Although we sensed that Iron Man was still around, it was still strange. We didn't know which person was the one who snapped the fingers in this world, but it doesn't matter. Our purpose in coming here wasn't to snap the fingers. Everyone here has been resurrected, so after being resurrected, Clint is no longer a Ronin. The Clint we encountered is the one who is no longer a Ronin."
The sunflower suddenly realized.
"Oh, right, it's fixed. It was deleted and then restored."
Sunflower is starting to understand a little bit.
But her confusion only deepened.
"That's not right..."
"Since they are all alive, what is that phantom behind the bowstring? Where does the obsession with returning home come from? Where are its roots?"
In the shared vision of Sunflower and Shuen, the grayish-white power that supported Clint in shooting the causal arrow did not dissipate because their family was reunited.
On the contrary, when Clint was embraced by his family, that power was rekindled and enveloped the entire farm.
It is like a giant tree, and Clint is just the most conspicuous branch of that giant tree on the earth.
The true roots, however, are deeply embedded in these few ordinary, laughing, and completely unaware people before us.
That was a vow of protection that could never be lost again.
It is the anchor of the future.
It transcends the barriers of time and death, setting reunion as an absolute and unshakeable premise.
"Obsession, how wondrous."
Xiu En couldn't help but echo the exact same sentiment as Sunflower.
He discovered a completely new power.
It looks quite ordinary.
But it can influence cause and effect.
