Chapter 36 As the tide rises, so does every boat

Ten minutes passed quickly.

Xiu En felt as if he had just finished a full-on high-end spa treatment.

His legs, which had felt as heavy as lead, became light, and the stinging pain that had accompanied his lungs miraculously disappeared.

He took a deep breath and found it incredibly sweet.

"Is this what it feels like to be a healthy person?"

Xiu En clenched his fist excitedly.

However, his cool demeanor lasted only three seconds.

On the system panel, the value representing [Physical Fitness] had just jumped up a little when the progress bar for [Shaohao's Blood/Gengjin Qi], which had been silent until now, suddenly spiked up significantly.

The metallic structures in the lungs proliferated instantly, as if mocking the fragility of the body.

"cough--!!!"

Xiu En suddenly bent over, and this cough was more violent than ever before, as if he were coughing up his entire lungs.

With a violent cough, tiny golden sparks escaped from between his fingers covering his mouth, landing on the ground and leaving small, charred dents.

The feeling of abundant power just now vanished instantly, replaced by an even heavier sense of burden.

Her rosy complexion, which had lasted for a second, quickly turned pale, and not only did her sickly appearance return, but it even gained a buff.

"Damn it!"

Xiu En was panting heavily, feeling a metallic taste in his throat.

"My body got stronger, and this damn metal energy got stronger too... What kind of ridiculous setting is this, where everything rises with the tide?!"

The Bat fighter jet slowly landed on the other side of the tarmac, the airflow making Xiu En's trench coat flutter.

The hatch opened, and Batman jumped out.

He didn't approach immediately, but stood a few meters away, frowning as he watched Xiu En coughing up sparks.

The miniature scanner on his wrist was frantically scanning data.

"Your lungs have a stronger high-energy response than before."

"The unknown energy you just absorbed seems to have worsened your condition rather than cured it."

"This is called, cough cough... a tactical upgrade."

Xiu En straightened up, wiped the corner of his mouth with his sleeve, and forced a smile.

"It looks a bit pathetic, but my lung capacity right now... cough, should be enough to blow this building apart!"

"Impossible, this building is of very good quality."

Not far away, Gordon was directing Gotham police officers to put Lincoln March, who looked like a toy with its batteries removed, onto a police transport plane.

As expected of Gotham's Black Flag police, they can remove their armor without batting an eye when faced with a mayoral candidate dressed in outlandish attire.

Hearing the commotion, Gordon turned around and saw the glowing young man coughing up sparks while chatting and laughing with Batman. He couldn't help but take off his glasses and rub his temples.

"Mr. Bat!"

Gordon shouted.

"I think we need to talk about this mess."

"Leave it to the legal team, Jim."

Bruce waved without turning his head. "I have more important patients to deal with now."

Gordon sighed and yelled into the walkie-talkie, "Back to base! Stop those reporters downstairs! Don't let anyone film anything up here!"

"It seems I'm the only patient here."

Xiu En leaned against the fighter jet's landing gear, feeling the cool metallic touch slightly relieve the heat inside his body.

He pointed to his still-smoking throat and looked at Bruce.

"I exhausted my life force to cover your retreat. Wouldn't that count as a work injury? And I think I just helped Gotham take care of a crazy mayoral candidate who was trying to carry out a terrorist attack."

Xiu En rubbed two fingers together: "I'm not greedy. A super-sized Wagyu beef burger without cilantro, plus this week's... oh no, this year's meal tickets."

I don't know when he went from Batman back to Bruce.

He led Xiu En downstairs and gestured to the luxury car that Afu had just driven up.

"Afu has already prepared lunch at the manor. Although there are no hamburgers, there is a specially made nutritious meal to suppress the rejection reaction in your body."

"It wasn't the vegetable juice you drank, was it?"

Xiu En's expression changed.

"Then I'll just keep coughing."

Not long after.

At the gate of Wayne Manor, five or six little heads were neatly squeezed into the crack of the door.

Just as the limousine rounded the bend and hadn't even come to a complete stop, the little boy standing at the very front moved.

He didn't speak, but stared intently at the platinum-gold radiance emanating from Xiu En, then stumbled and ran towards the car door.

The other children followed closely behind, their eyes, which had been filled with lifelessness, now reflecting a single color.

"My Lord Messenger."

Before Xiu En could even get out of the car, a dark figure slid down from the treetop next to him.

Alvin knelt on one knee as if he were paying homage to the Pope.

He looked at Xiu En, who was still coughing as soon as he opened the car door.

"Is this your divine power?"

Alvin watched as sparks splattered from Shuen's lips, making the floor sizzle.

"Even my breath carries the purifying fire."

"Purify my foot! Cough cough! This is deadly!"

Xiu En held onto the car door.

He glanced at the dark green, strangely celery-smelling special vegetable juice in Afu's hand, his expression more terrified than when he was facing Lincoln's powered armor.

I knew you guys were going to make me drink this!

"I won't drink it."

Xiu En waved his hand righteously, and pushed aside the children who wanted to rush over and hug his legs.

"If I drink this stuff, I'm afraid what I cough up won't be sparks, but biochemical poison gas."

"This is for the sake of your lungs."

Ah Fu maintained his unwavering, elegant smile and took a step forward while holding the tray.

"It contains kale, bitter melon, and..."

"Stop! Halt!"

Xiu En suddenly took a step back and pointed at the children surrounding his legs.

"I have important business to attend to. These kids just came out of that underground maze, and the psychological trauma they're probably experiencing is bigger than Gotham City itself. I need to take them to a place full of love and peace for some counseling."

Bruce leaned against the car, arms crossed, and looked at Hugh, who seemed to be willing to blow up a bunker as long as he didn't drink vegetable juice. His lips twitched slightly.

"You mean going to Martha Wayne Memorial Home?"

Bruce raised an eyebrow.

"Go find Ivy?"

"Yes, that's it."

Xiu En coughed up another string of sparks.

"The kids there are as lively as monkeys, which is a perfect way to balance out the lifelessness of these expressionless little guys."

"and!"

Xiu En turned his head and looked at the children who were still clutching the hem of his trench coat as if he would disappear if they let go.

His tone was unusually serious for a second.

"They came for the light."

"I need to show them the way."

Bruce remained silent for a moment.

His gaze swept over the children who should have been nestled in their parents' arms, but were now clinging to Xiu En like frightened little animals.

That was the sin committed by the court, and it is also a scar on Gotham.

"Get in the car."

Bruce turned and walked toward the driver's seat, his voice deep and Batman-like.

"I'll take you there. Ah Fu, take that pot of hot cocoa and some snacks with you. Leave the vegetable juice for later."

"Yes, sir."

Afu bowed slightly, the smile lines at the corners of his eyes deepening.

Xiu En, feeling like he'd been granted a pardon, immediately shoved the children into the car like ducks: "Quick, quick, get in! We're going on a spring outing! Alvin, you come on in too, don't hang on the roof, it's scary!"

"Yes, sir!"

Alvin immediately carried out the order, casually squashing an unknown insect that was trying to approach the car door, then sat upright in the car, his eyes sharply scanning the road conditions.

The extended luxury car started up again and smoothly drove out of Wayne Manor.

Inside the carriage, the children who were originally trembling with fear were now holding hot cocoa that Afu had handed them. Although they still didn't dare to speak, their eyes never left Xiu En.

Xiu En slumped in the leather seat, feeling like a mother duck with a flock of ducklings, but one who had tuberculosis.

"I hope Ivy doesn't let her man-eating flower bite me because I brought too many people to freeload at the restaurant."

Xiu muttered to himself, coughing up another spark that landed on the tissue Alvin handed him, instantly burning a hole through it.
