American comics: Praising the sun, starting from Gotham!
Chapter 38 Damn it, I'm being rejected!
Bruce was cleaning the mud off his sleeves when the special watch on his wrist suddenly vibrated.
A red light flashed on the screen, indicating high-priority intelligence filtered by the Batcomputer: based on the signal frequency of the Lincoln March armor remnants and previous analysis, the location of the City Claws' hibernation pods had been locked.
The coffins underground are being opened one by one.
The Gotham baby's gentle gaze vanished, replaced by Batman's characteristic coldness and hardness.
"Looks like my leisure time is over."
He said in a low voice, then turned to walk toward the black luxury car parked at the door.
Xiu En was sitting on a bench, holding the steel hedgehog in his arms.
Upon seeing that his benefactor and driver was about to abscond, he immediately displayed his professional spirit of doing things for money.
"Huh? Cough cough, you're leaving already?"
Xiu En struggled to his feet, then coughed up a spark while covering his mouth.
"Looks like something big is about to happen. Should I go help out? Whether it's being a human shield or providing fire support, I can do it all now! I feel incredibly strong!"
As he spoke, he puffed out his chest with a hint of pride.
As he moved, the milky-white holy light pillar around his body flashed suddenly, instantly increasing the brightness within a 500-meter radius by one level, even illuminating the darkest corner of the orphanage with a ghastly white light.
Xiu En even felt that at this moment he was filled with divine radiance, enough to intimidate any villain.
Bruce stopped in his tracks.
The Dark Knight of Gotham turned around and, instead of answering immediately, silently sized up Shuen.
His gaze lingered for a full five seconds on that terrifying beam of light that seemed to be shouting "I'm here! Come and hit me!" to all of Gotham and even to satellites outside the atmosphere.
In those five seconds, even Jerami next to him stopped, covered his eyes with his hand, and muttered, "It's really blinding."
"No, Xiu En."
Bruce finally spoke.
Although his tone was polite, the obvious disdain in his eyes was almost overflowing.
"My operational philosophy is based on secrecy and fear. You're not really suited for that."
He pointed to the effect on Xiu En's body that made him look like he was going to be a ball light in a disco.
"It's too bright. I think I'd probably need to wear sunglasses to fight this with you."
After saying that, he opened the car door and gracefully got into the driver's seat.
"I'll definitely do it next time."
With the roar of the engine, the luxury car sped away, leaving Xiu En with only black smoke from the exhaust fumes.
"Tch, you don't know how to appreciate things."
Xiu En angrily sat back down on the bench and patted the steel bonsai in his arms.
"Next time for sure? Even the interns at Wayne Enterprises wouldn't believe such a perfunctory answer."
Before he could finish complaining, he felt a chilling plant scent coming from behind him.
Turning around, Pamela Ivy stood behind him like a ghost.
She had just settled the children, and now her gaze was completely fixed on the mutated plant in his arms.
And on his metal lungs that looked like they were about to explode.
"Since he doesn't include you in his activities."
Ivy held a pair of pruning shears in her hand, snip-snip-snip as she opened and closed them.
"Then do something useful here. Like... let me draw some blood, or give you a herbal therapy."
Alvin, standing nearby, gripped the hilt of his knife warily, but Shuen pressed it down with a wry smile.
"Okay, okay."
Before Xiu En could react, several extremely thin vines shot out like snakes, piercing his collar, cuffs, and soles of his shoes.
Xiu En looked down and saw three tiny black devices that had been crushed on the ground.
"Three. That control freak."
Ivy snorted coldly, her eyes filled with disdain for this high-tech voyeuristic behavior.
"He installed three on you: a receiver in the left collar, a GPS tracker in the right cuff, and the one in the sole of your shoe can even analyze your gait."
"And you!" Ivy turned to Alvin.
A few vines circled around Alvin's body, but finally stopped.
Ivy frowned, seemingly deep in thought, before finally retracting the vines with a look of disdain.
"Consider yourself lucky. If that bat hadn't left an eye open, he probably would have blown my roof off in a fighter jet. I'd love to see him furious, but these plants can't withstand any damage."
Alvin stood there expressionless, but the hand that had been about to cut the vines quietly returned to the hilt of the knife.
As for the children in the courtroom, they were too clean to have that dark, tycoon's twisted sense of humor.
"Alright, time to get down to business. You can start doing the hard labor now."
"If you mean to pull out all the weeds here?"
Xiu En coughed.
"I mean, to make you shine."
Ivy pointed to the plants behind her.
"Gotham has been experiencing rainy weather for half a month now, and my children are starving."
"Alright, then I'll act as a human bathroom heater for a while."
Xiu En shrugged.
He closed his eyes and slightly mobilized the Gengxin metal energy within his body that always made him feel hot, along with the radiance that came from his bloodline.
The next second, a warm and mellow light, centered on Xiu En, gently swept across the entire orphanage and greenhouse.
The plants of Gotham.
Most of them are like the people in this city: twisted, dark, tenacious, and starved of love.
But the moment they came into contact with that light, they went mad.
The leaves unfurl as if parched earth greedily absorbing rain.
The half-dead vines began to turn green at a visible speed, and the veins of the leaves flowed with a vitality that was almost fluorescent.
One plant, which looks like a variant of the Venus flytrap, even excitedly waved its two huge "lips," as if cheering for the sky.
Even more outrageous was that several desert plants that had been feigning death due to acclimatization issues suddenly sprouted pink flower buds within a minute, and shamelessly bent all of them toward Xiu En, as if they were on some kind of pilgrimage in the plant world.
Alvin felt the light falling on his body. Instead of the burning sensation he had imagined, it made the claw regeneration potion in his body, which always gave him a headache, much calmer.
Those court orphans reacted more directly.
He squinted like a group of real children, the corners of his mouth unconsciously turning up. One of the bold little girls even quietly moved two steps into the circle of light at Xiu En's feet, as if she wanted to get closer to the radiator.
"This heating is really strong, boss."
Jeremy yawned contentedly.
"If this feature existed in winter, could we save on heating costs while living under bridges?"
Ivy didn't say anything.
She simply watched the reactions of her precious plants.
"Wow, your light makes the plants more comfortable than before?"
She looked up at Xiu En, and the look in her eyes made Xiu En feel like he was about to become Tang Monk's flesh.
Xiu En silently pulled his collar up a little.
He suddenly realized that being monitored by Bruce had its advantages; at least Bruce wouldn't want to keep him in a flowerpot.
