Chapter 68 The Non-Existent Cat and the Flower Without Regret

"Alright, alright, everyone else, please step back. Especially those kids who think they can save the world."

Shuen cleared his throat and moved Jenny and a few little devils who were trying to climb onto his back aside.

He stretched out his finger, and the light spot on his fingertip began to compress rapidly.

"If the bird we just saw was a texture created due to insufficient graphics card capabilities, then this next one is quite different."

The golden specks of light were no longer the hazy mist, but had condensed into a high-density fluid.

They swirled and outlined themselves in the air, first as a translucent skeleton, then as flesh and blood filled with light, and finally as a layer of fluffy, shimmering golden fur.

一只猫。

But this is not just an ordinary stray cat.

It has a long, even somewhat exaggerated, tail, elegant and agile limbs, and ears that are slightly upturned and always seem to carry a cunning air.

The shadow of Serena from another world.

Although Ivy didn't say anything, when the golden halo landed on the grass and made a meow, Her Majesty the Queen, who was pruning a Venus flytrap, stopped.

"Watch closely, this is a limited-edition move."

Xiu En wiggled his finger.

This cat, composed of pure light and some kind of memory data from the divine essence of Shaohao, suddenly lowered its body in place.

Then, it leaped up suddenly.

In mid-air, it completed a 720-degree spin and a backflip, and even at the highest point, it used its claws to strike a pose similar to a celebration after successfully stealing something.

"Smack!"

Although the action was cool, perhaps because the lighting model hadn't fully adapted to the gravity parameters, or perhaps because Xiu En was too incompetent, the cat slipped slightly when it landed and ended up face down, turning into a golden pancake.

But the next moment, it bounced back up like liquid and casually shook its fur.

A burst of laughter erupted from the crowd, even the prospective believers who had only joined the Sun Church a few days ago were rolling around in laughter.

Only Ivy didn't laugh.

She crouched down, extended the vine finger that had just had half its thorns cut off, and carefully reached for the glowing little thing.

She had expected to touch nothingness, or perhaps some kind of scalding energy.

But what came through her fingertips was a warm, tingling sensation with a slight electric current, as if a cat were actually nudging her palm with its head.

"Even though she doesn't recognize you in that world, this backflip thing really exists!"

Xiu En shrugged, casually picked an apple from the old tree next to him that looked like it was wrapped in tin, took a bite, and found it really hard.

"Perhaps, maybe, possibly, it contains the regrets of a certain world."

The little cat didn't resist Ivy's touch; instead, it ran along her vines until, just like countless afternoons on the rooftops of Gotham City.

She curled up on her shoulder, a mirror image of the spot the sunflower projection used to love to be.

"It's a poor imitation."

Ivy muttered something, but her eyes were slightly red.

Instead of pushing away the light, she gently covered it with the leaves extending from her collar, as if making a temporary nest.

"But the feel is pretty good. I'd say your after-sales service met the standard this time."

She stood up and commented.

"Although its backflip looks as ugly as a wrestling match."

Ivy's eyes remained fixed on the glowing cat on her shoulder, her fingers unconsciously tracing its iridescent back.

But this heartwarming scene lasted for less than ten seconds.

She turned her head and looked Xiu En up and down as he prepared to sneak another bite of fruit.

His gaze was as if he were examining a newly unearthed, unknown ore.

"The memories from that world mention that your metallized skeleton is very strong."

Her voice was so soft it was almost dangerous, and the roots beneath the ground beside her began to wriggle restlessly.

"You absorbed that thing—I don't know what it's called—so theoretically, its hardness and toughness should have undergone a qualitative change. For your future safety..."

Ivy smiled a pure and innocent smile.

"We need some real-world data. Don't worry, it's just one bite."

Before Xiu En could even ask the question "How do you bite it?", the ground cracked open.

This time, instead of those decorative little plants, a giant, dark purple Venus flytrap grew, its stem still smelling of earth.

Its scientific name may be very long, but at this moment it is a gaping maw covered with barbs and fangs.

This little cutie, who was about half as tall as Xiu En, seemed to have been starving for three days. She quickly and ruthlessly swallowed Xiu En's left arm, which had just been showing off and performing magic tricks.

"Awooo."

She could even hear the sticky sound of drool dripping from his mouth. Jenny covered her eyes in fright, peeking through her fingers, afraid that she would see her older brother turn into a one-armed hero.

"Crack—Boom!"

A metallic clang rang out, followed by the crisp sound of something hard shattering.

The once-fierce Venus flytrap seemed to have bitten into the hottest iron plate in the world; its entire flower head shuddered violently, then withered and died at a visible speed. It spat and opened its mouth, pulling out Xiu En's arm unharmed, leaving behind several broken plant fangs dripping dark green acid on the ground.

Xiu En flicked the highly corrosive viscous liquid off his sleeves, which evaporated instantly upon contact with the faint golden light on his skin.

"This counts as a work injury, right? This definitely counts as a work injury."

He held his arm up in front of Ivy and waved it; there wasn't a single tooth mark on it, and it even looked shinier because it had been washed with acid.

Ivy tenderly touched the somewhat withdrawn Venus flytrap, channeling her life force through her fingertips to soothe the poor little thing.

"It has very high hardness, extremely strong corrosion resistance, and this high-temperature reaction..."

She quickly updated the file in her mind.

"It seems that apart from heavy firepower coverage or conceptual strikes, it will be very difficult to penetrate the defenses on a physical level."

"Hey, can you please show some concern for the victim? I'm traumatized."

"I feel like I can't feel pain anymore, isn't that a tragedy?"

"Shut up."

Ivy rolled her eyes at him, but her hands betrayed her intentions, manipulating vines to hand him a clean handkerchief.

"If you don't tough it out, how are you going to survive in this damn Gotham? Those bullets won't care if your skin is too soft."

"Ahem, it seems the pre-meal appetite-stimulating exercise is over?"

Ah Fu pushed the silver food cart and appeared in the shadows behind the two of them as if by teleportation.

When the hood was lifted, a plate of unidentified solid gleaming with a metallic sheen was revealed.

"Considering Xiu En's current physical needs, this is an energy bar I specially made by mixing ginseng with the leftover waste from Wayne Group's aerospace laboratory—no, high-energy alloy powder."

Afu wore an impeccable butler-like smile.

"In addition, Miss Zatana sent a message saying that if Young Master Shuen is feeling restless, he can go and take a look at the magic circle under the Shadow House. Since you came back, some strange golden mushrooms seem to have grown there."
