Chapter 97 The Devil Knocks on the Door, Encountering a Temperamental Homeowner

If you ask the citizens of Gotham what wakes them up more than an alarm clock, the answer is usually an explosion or the roar of some giant creature.

This law was perfectly demonstrated at the Gotham waterfront construction site this morning.

Xiu En woke up in the bucket of the excavator that served as a temporary sacred seat.

Last night, in order to supervise Bill's gang working all night to make ash, he stayed here all night until the thugs were so tired that their hands were shaking as they held the steel bars. Only then did he feel a sense of accomplishment in turning bad guys into expendable resources.

However, this sense of accomplishment was shattered at 9 a.m. by a terrified scream.

"No! Back off! That's... Oh my god, what is that thing!"

"Consultant! Help! We've dug up a ghost down there!"

When Xiu En, with a yawning sunflower on his head and the spirited black-gold carnivorous plant following behind, arrived at the edge of the newly dug pit.

He saw a bronze door that reeked of nauseating sulfur.

There is also a hydraulic breaker.

That expensive piece of equipment is now being hung on by two monsters that look like skinned monkeys, which are gnawing at the hard drill bit like they're eating sunflower seeds.

"Click...creak..."

The monster's claws were deeply embedded in the mechanical arm, and with chewing sounds, Wayne Enterprises' assets were turning into scrap metal at a visible speed.

Xiu En's eyes instantly became even more terrifying than the red light emanating from behind the door.

"Hey!"

His voice was calm and even, but the air around him was already distorted by the high temperature.

"If I'm not mistaken, that thing is eating my money."

Bill was slumped in the mud, his legs weak.

Even someone who had slaughtered countless people on the streets found the steel bar he held, originally intended to scare people, utterly ridiculous in the face of this monster that could clearly leap three meters high and spew corrosive saliva.

"Mr. Gu...the consultant!"

Bill's voice trembled as he pointed at the two monsters that were about to pounce on another mixer.

"This is absolutely not in our employment contract! This is...this is a monster! We need Batman!"

"There's no Batman here, only creditors."

Xiu En glanced at him, then pointed.

"Tell me, Bill, how much does a mixer cost? If it gets destroyed, how many more years would you and your crew have to work all night laying bricks to pay for it?"

This is a simple math problem.

Or rather, this is a matter of life and death.

Bill glanced at Hugh's attitude, which seemed to be about to burn the artificial land into lava, and then at the two monkeys that were still destroying public property.

He suddenly felt that facing hellish creatures seemed to offer a slightly better chance of survival than facing a financial deficit; at least the former wouldn't leave him spending the rest of his life paying off debts.

"This is fucking terrible!"

Bill roared with the kind of indignation one would only have when facing a debt collection agency, picking up a freshly broken cement brick from the ground.

"Brothers! Those are our work points! Protect the mixer!!"

While the gangsters were screaming and throwing bricks at the monster to attract its attention, Xiu En wasn't idle either.

He was just trying to scare these dangerous individuals; he wouldn't actually send them to their deaths.

"go!"

He patted the black-gold carnivorous plant behind him, which had been restless for a long time, like a vicious dog being released from its cage.

"Let those two not-yet-fully-evolved monkeys know who's at the top of the food chain on this construction site."

The roots of the black gold man-eating flower excitedly rubbed against the ground, creating a burst of sparks.

It has been waiting for this moment for a long time.

Metallic tentacles, gleaming with a cold metallic sheen, sprang out and wrapped around the neck of one of the gargoyles that was baring its fangs and brandishing its claws.

The two demons were quickly dealt with.

"Look!"

Xiu En stood before the massive bronze gate, at least 1,500 years old, carved with the pact between a lost civilization and the abyss.

His fingers scraped against the dark green rust on the door frame, making a harsh sound.

"The copper content is acceptable, but there are too many impurities. If we sell it to Gotham Steel to be melted down, we'll probably have to pay them for refining."

As he spoke, the poor black-gold carnivorous plant was using its two still-smoking alloy tentacles as hydraulic jacks to squeeze half of its body into the narrow doorway that could barely fit a hand.

The enormous metallic twisting sound echoed in the empty underground, like ten thousand fingernails scratching a blackboard, making the teeth of several thugs holding crowbars nearby, ready to join the attack, ache.

"Wait a minute!"

Ivy opened her leaf and patted Xiu En's head.

"I don't care if it's copper or gold, there's something... dirty in the dimensions connected to here. If you fuse this material into the foundation, this building will not only be haunted, but it will also grow these man-eating flowers, even if I don't plant them."

Xiu En shrugged. His trench coat was now billowing like a balloon due to the high-energy reaction. With each breath, one or two small sparks of light energy would fall onto the damp soil like static electricity, scorching tiny vitrified crystal pits into the ground.

"I was just kidding. This thing doesn't look like anything good, but Ah-Fu said that this area is going to be used to build an expansion area for a children's welfare home. A little bit of ghosts might save the kids a lot of money on entrance fees for Halloween."

Despite saying that, he still walked to the door crack, which had been completely transformed into an oval shape.

A roar came from inside the door, and a cloud of smoke with flames tried to rush out, like a hellfire whose tail had been stepped on. But before it could take shape, Xiu En rudely exhaled a breath of pure, scorching golden killing intent into the crack in the door.

"Quiet down, neighbor. I'm at work."

He spoke casually, then reached out and grabbed a broken section of the carved railing that had been pried open by the carnivorous plant.

In an instant, a sound wave of a frequency that seemed to resonate like countless metals resonating with each other exploded, and Bill felt the steel plate that had been left in his thigh for many years tremble.

"John!"

Xiu En shouted without turning his head, his voice becoming somewhat muffled due to the rising temperature in his mouth, as if he were chewing on molten iron that hadn't completely melted.

"Yes...yes!"

Old John peeked out from behind a pile of sandbags about fifty meters away, revealing a head wearing a safety helmet.

"Remember to lift that tracked machine over here. That thing weighs about eight tons."

Shuen's voice grew more dangerous as he sensed the chains of rules connecting the door behind it trying to pull the property back.

"Hurry up, while I'm still having a tug-of-war with that watchdog down there."

As soon as he finished speaking, the huge door frame connected to the underground rock layer, and even the soil within a radius of twenty meters around it, rose a full three meters upwards.

At the bottom of the deep pit, countless roots that resembled blood vessels and were intertwined with the laws of evil were broken off one by one.

In Xiu En's eyes, this was not the Gates of Hell at all, but rather a large, somewhat deformed bronze radish.

Fifteen minutes later.

The Demon Gate now lies horizontally in the mud at the construction site.

The two door panels, carved with the seven deadly sins, were completely deformed from the violent dragging earlier, and there were several teeth marks on them, seemingly made by someone.

Xiu En was squatting in front of the pile of junk, knocking on one of the door knockers that looked like a ghost face.

"The sulfur content is a bit high."

"This stuff wouldn't be strong enough to make steel reinforcement if melted down... but maybe it'd be an idea to make a lightning rod? You know, hell conducts electricity, right?"

Bill did not speak.

He and his brothers are prostrating themselves over there.
