Simultaneous Transmigration: We Share a Role-Playing System

Chapter 8: The Dark Raid, The Legend of the Hungry Wolf

In the Water International Building, Starlight lay on her bed in the lounge. Usually mindful of her figure, she was now drinking a Frappuccino with double sugar, humming a little tune, and swinging her legs back and forth, looking quite happy.

Having just met with Hugh and learned the truth about Homelander's beating, it was hard for her not to be happy. Even though she had been removed from her position as the leader of the Seven by the enraged Stan, she didn't take it to heart.

Given the current situation, removing it might actually be a good thing.

Just as Xingguang was enjoying a wonderful moment, a commotion suddenly broke out outside the door. Not wanting to miss any news, Xingguang immediately put down her drink, tiptoed to the door, and carefully listened to the sounds.

At that moment, Ashley's voice came from outside the door.

"What! Homelander went to see Mr. Edgar??? Why didn't anyone tell me beforehand! Didn't anyone stop him?!"

The assistants' assistants: "?"

(Us? We're going to stop Homelander?)

"Fuck! You bunch of useless idiots! My nervous breakdown is all your fault! If you were even slightly capable, you wouldn't be so incompetent. Get out! All of you, get to the public relations department and get this sorted out!"

Although it was very immoral, I couldn't help but laugh when I heard the starlight. After all, I had witnessed enough of Ashley's timid and submissive behavior in front of Homelander. Now that she was being assertive, she was actually quite... assertive?

As for Ashley, after sending away her subordinates who had been used as punching bags, she slumped down on a bench in the corridor, her fingertips digging into her brow, her chest still heaving violently from the anger and frustration she had just felt.

She tried to catch her breath during this brief respite, but all that rose in her throat were stifled sighs, one heavier than the last. It was clear that being Ah Zu's assistant was really stressful.

Starlight stood at the door for a while, listening to the suppressed sighs. Just as she turned to leave, a sudden, urgent cell phone ring broke the silence of the corridor.

She paused, then silently moved back to him.

"Feed? Yes, it's me... What?" Ashley's voice, still hoarse from just being suppressed, was followed by barely suppressed astonishment. "Blackie is leading a security team on a mission? And I have to go and coordinate? Okay, where is it?...The Flatiron Building?"

The words "Iron Building" exploded in Xingguang's ears like a thunderclap.

She instantly recalled Stan's enigmatic gaze from before, as well as the rumors that had been circulating within Walter recently, and her heart sank.

She was not cleared of suspicion, or rather, Stan would rather kill the wrong person than let the guilty go free; he was going to make a move against Hugh and the others!

"Where do you think they're going?!"

With a sharp shout, Xingguang burst out of the door, smashing the broken door panel onto the ground with a loud bang.

Ashley jumped in fright, nearly dropping her phone. Her voice cracked instantly as she blurted out, "Starlight? You...you shouldn't be at the gym right now?"

Starlight completely ignored her words, took a few steps forward, and leaned down to stare intently into Ashley's eyes.

"I'm asking you, where did Xuanse and the others go!"

When Hugh woke up needing to urinate, he found himself surrounded by a pile of empty bottles. He glanced at the butcher sleeping soundly on the sofa, wrapped himself in a coat, and staggered to his feet, heading towards the public restroom on the floor.

He went into the bathroom, having just shaken off the effects of last night's alcohol, and instinctively reached for his phone—the screen was dark, with only a sliver of battery left. Just then, a message from his girlfriend, Annie, popped up.

Still groggy from the hangover, he only had time to make out the word "Careful" before his phone screen went completely black.

Hugh felt a little down. He casually shook himself and turned to go back to charge his phone. He walked to the sink and just as he bent down to splash some cold water on his face, a figure completely wrapped in a black combat suit suddenly appeared in the mirror.

In that instant, he sobered up completely.

Because he recognized the person in the black combat uniform as being named Xuanse.

The word "Xuan..." was barely on his lips when Xuan Se raised his hand and delivered a precise chop to the side of Xiu's neck. Xiu didn't even have time to groan before his body went limp and he lost consciousness. Xuan Se then hoisted him onto his shoulder and walked out of the bathroom without stopping, leaving the man to the special forces members guarding the door.

He glanced up and swept the corridor across, finding it packed with mercenaries and Walter's own special forces team, leaving almost no room to move.

Accustomed to acting alone, Xuan Se paused for half a second, unsure how to explain the need for covert operations. He could only raise his hand to make a tactical gesture of advancing, then turned and led the way towards the office rented by the Black Robe Police.

They had to remain silent so as not to alert any potential mission targets.

In the office, the butcher finally struggled to wake up from the haze of his hangover.

At this moment, his eyelids felt as heavy as if they were filled with lead. He struggled to open them a crack, and his sleepy gaze swept across the messy office but he did not see Xiu Yi.

Just as the butcher was about to shout, he suddenly felt a chill on the back of his neck, and a bone-chilling coldness crept up his spine.

No! There's danger!

The next second, with a few sharp "bangs", several dark objects flew in from outside the window, smashing straight through the glass and crashing into the room.

Those were several chemical bombs. After landing, they rolled twice and then emitted a milky white mist with a pungent, sweet smell.

It is heptafluoroane.

The butcher's pupils contracted sharply. Without thinking, he grabbed the coat next to him and covered his mouth and nose. He rolled over and used the sofa as cover to shrink inside.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of the corner of his desk where the bottle of Temporary No. 5 was emitting an eerie green glow.

Just as his fingertips were about to touch the bottle, a flash of cold light suddenly shot in from the doorway. With a clang, the short knife accurately pierced the bottle, and the green potion splattered all over the floor, hissing and bubbling.

"Fuck!"

No sooner had the butcher finished cursing than Xuanse, driven to desperation by his idiotic teammates, darted through the door like a cheetah, gripping his short knife in reverse and using the momentum to thrust it straight at the butcher's heart. Clearly, he intended to take advantage of the butcher's momentary lapse in concentration caused by the anesthetic and kill him instantly.

But at this critical moment, the door to the lounge shattered with a crash, and amidst the flying wood chips, a figure in black darted out like a cheetah.

Before the black knife could touch the butcher, the figure had already kicked him hard in mid-air, slamming him against the wall with a dull thud.

The sudden turn of events was so swift that the entire space seemed to freeze for a moment. Xuanse slid down the wall to the ground, his movements frozen in mid-air. The Butcher's hand, which was covering his mouth and nose, stopped abruptly, his eyes filled with astonishment. The mercenaries outside the door were also stunned, forgetting to adjust their gun-holding postures.

Xuan Se struggled to lift his head, staring at the person in front of him who appeared to be the mission target. The person had striking V-shaped white hair, a cold and stern face, a muscular build, and a playful look in his eyes.

Xuan Se tensed up instantly. He could tell at a glance that this was a truly troublesome opponent.

He suddenly flipped himself to his feet, grabbed the short knife that had fallen to his feet, pointed the tip at his opponent, his whole body tense like a fully drawn bow, on high alert.

The mercenaries outside the door and the special forces soldiers outside the window only then realized what was happening. They immediately raised their guns and swarmed in. The dark muzzles of their guns were aimed at the two men from all directions, completely surrounding the small space and leaving no room for them to breathe.

Upon seeing this, the butcher immediately stood back-to-back with Locke, covering their mouths and noses with their clothes, struggling to withstand the onslaught of sevoflurane, and asked:

"Locke?"

"uh-huh."

"Fuck, didn't you know everything? Didn't you expect this?"

Locke didn't respond, but turned his head and gave an almost sinister smile. He flicked his toe, hooking the gas canister next to him into the air, then raised his hand and caught it steadily, bringing it to his nose.

He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and felt the cool air rush through his nostrils. He was no longer sleepy and even tasted a hint of sweetness for the first time.

"I really miss those days."

Faced with Locke's outrageous behavior, Xuan Se's heart sank, but before he could react, Locke suddenly opened his eyes, the playfulness in his eyes vanished instantly, and his face twisted into a ferocious grimace.

He suddenly tightened his grip on the gas canister, and with a crisp "bang," the canister burst open, releasing a burst of translucent white steam that instantly filled most of the room.

Using the white fog as cover, he ducked and dashed out.

Xuanse's eyes caught Locke's movement, but his body was a beat too slow. Locke delivered a shoulder ramming blow to his chest, sending Xuanse flying like a rag doll. He crashed through the window with a "crash" and fell straight out.

Upon seeing this, the mercenaries immediately pulled the triggers in unison, and gunshots rang out instantly in the confined space.

Locke's figure swayed, leaving several pale blue afterimages in the air. Before the semi-transparent steam had dissipated, gunfire would occasionally pierce the smoke, illuminating his figure briefly before disappearing into the haze.

Amidst the dense gunfire, the mercenaries' screams erupted one after another.

In the blink of an eye, the office was in complete chaos. Tables and chairs were overturned, glass shards mixed with bullet casings rolled all over the floor, and gunshots, screams, and the sound of heavy objects hitting the ground were all mixed together.

When Xuanse scrambled back up the windowsill, he looked through his goggles and saw the special forces team lying haphazardly on the floor. Butcher was filled with disbelief and wondered if he had taken too much.

Locke stood in the center of the room, his back to the black figure, motionless.

He slowly raised his hands, his fingers slowly spreading out. The bullets hidden in his palms were still covered in gunpowder smoke, and even emitted a few wisps of pale white smoke, rolling down one after another.

The bullets struck the cold floor with a sharp, grating "tap, tap, tap," their shrill sound particularly jarring in the otherwise chaotic silence.

When Locke turned around, his handsome face was no longer contorted with rage, but instead filled with pleasure as he looked at him.

"Come on, please me, just like you pleased the soldier boys back then—you're right, aren't you, Erwin?" (Black's real name in the TV series)

The moment he finished speaking, the burns on Xuanse's face suddenly stung with pain, and his mind felt as if it had been hit hard by a blunt object, followed by a piercing pain, and hallucinations surged up without warning.

The figure in front of him began to distort, Locke's outline gradually blurred and faded, and in his place was the face of the soldier boy.

That guy who should have died long ago was staring at him with a cold smile, the chill in his eyes like an icicle, making the hairs on his body stand on end and chill seep out from his bones.

Xuanse stood frozen in place, forgetting even to breathe.

At that moment, he felt nothing but a surging fear that threatened to engulf him.
