Guyver Armor: KAP-2

Chapter 44 Recovering from Injuries, Re-entering the Base

Adachi Ward, Tokyo.

The dim oil lamp flickered in the corner of the wooden house. Makijima Agito sat on the bed covered with coarse cloth, his chest wrapped in heavy bandages, the white cloth tinged with dark red.

These are the scars left after the battle with the Beast God. Due to the severity of the internal injuries, even with the recovery ability of the Bio-Armor, it took a whole day for him to get up.

"I was careless this time. That damned Geo actually seized my assets directly?" Makijima said, clutching the encrypted message in his hand, his face ashen.

Currently, many of Makijima's properties have been seized by Geo on charges of "supporting terrorist activities." But he immediately gave a cold smile, his eyes showing no sign of panic: "Hmph, luckily I was prepared."

Over the years, he used the connections of Kronos's reserve cadres and Genzo Makishima to secretly plant numerous informants. After Makishima's downfall, he took over the entire operation and transferred core assets cleanly through various overseas channels.

What Geo seized were merely some real estate "bait" that he couldn't openly touch.

Just then, the communicator vibrated again.

Makijima looked down and tapped the screen, where a message reported that the team from KEP-1 and KEP-2 had gone to Mount Mena, and that Geo had immediately set off for the ruins base.

"That yellow-haired bastard Kep is here too?" An uncontrollable rage surged through Makijima Agito's heart. "He dared to steal a pawn I had my eye on... Fukamachi Akira, that brat, was supposed to be a force I could control!"

"...I want to tear that yellow-skinned bastard to pieces with my own hands!" He struggled to get out of bed, but a sharp pain made his vision go black, and he spat out a mouthful of dark red blood onto the sheets.

"Young Master Jacto! Please calm down!" Onuma Shizu reacted quickly and rushed forward to hug his swaying body tightly.

Her voice trembled with tears: "Your body isn't fully recovered yet; you need to heal your injuries first!"

"Gio! Cape!" Half-lying in Shizu's arms, Makijima breathed heavily.

The anger and frustration in his chest almost consumed him, just like that cold, dark night from his childhood...

A surge of irritation welled up within him, and he abruptly turned his head, his gaze fixed on the two maids inside the room: "Both of you, get out!"

"No, wait...you stay here." He reached out and grabbed Shizu's arm.

Outside the wooden house, it was pitch black, and the night wind howled past.

Under the dim light of an oil lamp, the few summer clothes that were already worn were removed one by one.

Makijima Agito once again vented all his anger, humiliation, and resentment on this woman who obeyed him completely.

His ferocious profile and Onuma Shizu's gentle expression created a repressive and distorted image.

The next morning.

The morning mist had not yet completely dissipated, and the mountains were filled with the moist scent of grass and trees.

The figures of Tsubasa Kanno and her group walked through the mountain path shrouded in morning mist, and each of them showed visible fatigue on their faces.

In the past few hours, they have successively defeated three Zoanoid interception squads sent by Pochinos.

The two vehicles parked by the mountain road below had wounds all over them from the claws of the beastmen.

Finally, after passing through a small grove of trees, Tsubasa Kanno once again caught sight of the faded, mottled vermilion torii gate outside the dilapidated shrine.

He perked up: "Come on everyone, we're almost there!"

"Could there really be a secret passage hidden in a place like this?"

"I never imagined that this place could lead to Mount Mena..."

Pushing open the rotten wooden door and stepping into the dilapidated courtyard, the boys regained some of their energy and began to discuss in hushed tones.

In front of the ancient well in the center, Tsubasa Kamino stopped. He reached out and pulled back the well cover, revealing a small opening just wide enough for one person to pass through—the entrance to the secret passage leading to the ruins was once again exposed to the air.

"This is it." Tsubasa Kamino turned around and gestured. "Follow me, go down one by one in order, and watch your step."

After passing through a narrow, cramped, dark passage, the group entered a huge underground space.

"drop--"

The overhead monitor detected the unusual activity, and a red warning light suddenly lit up.

This time, however, Tsubasa Kamino no longer needed to rely on Masaki Murakami's name. He looked up at the monitor camera, then reached behind him and pulled out a palm-sized black device from a crack in the wall beside him.

That was an encrypted communicator that had been taken from the equipment used during the last exploration of the ruins. When Hayami Toshiaki left the ruins last time, he had stuffed it into his pocket, saying that it would be convenient for him to contact the support team immediately when he returned.

Tsubasa Kamino's fingertips flew across the call button, and the communicator immediately emitted a slight buzz, indicating a successful connection.

"I am Tsubasa Kamino. As promised, I have returned with Mr. Masaki Murakami. Accompanying us are another Kemp user and civilians persecuted by Chronos. We are now at the entrance to the secret passage, waiting for your assistance."

An uncontrollable cheer erupted from the other end of the communicator, mixed with the crisp sound of something falling to the ground.

After a while, Director Oda Kiri's familiar voice, trembling slightly, came through: "Received! Thank you for your hard work, Mr. Kanno, and everyone else! Please rest here for a bit. Our support team will depart immediately and should arrive in about twenty minutes!"

Twenty minutes later, the distant rumble of a railcar rolling over metal tracks could be heard.

Between the two beams of light from the front of the car, a familiar figure peeked out, waving excitedly: "Mr. Kanno! Mr. Murakami!"

It was Toshiaki Hayami. He and another researcher jumped out of the car and ran over quickly. But as his gaze swept over the crowd, his brows slowly furrowed.

"The situation is a bit troublesome." He lowered his voice and pointed to the equipment box behind him.

"We've brought the largest concealment equipment cases we can carry, but they can only hold a maximum of six people at a time. To avoid alerting the base patrols, we'll have to send you in in two batches."

"No problem." Tsubasa Kanno turned to look at Akira Fukamachi and the Segawa siblings and others. "You guys go with Mr. Hayami first. Mr. Murakami and I will go and deal with the tail of the car."

In order to avoid revealing the location of the secret passage by leaving traces on the vehicle, Tsubasa Kamino planned to call Masaki Murakami to help them drive the car to another location.

"Is that alright, Mr. Murakami?"

Murakami Masaki nodded, but just as the two turned to leave, Hayami Toshiaki suddenly caught up with them.

He grabbed Kino Tsubasa's arm, his face grave: "Mr. Kino, you must be careful when you go out! Yesterday afternoon, two high-ranking members of the organization from headquarters came to the Ruins Base. I heard their status is even higher than the base's head! The security forces at the base and in the surrounding area have now been tripled!"

Tsubasa Kanno and Masaki Murakami exchanged a glance, nodded solemnly, and then turned back down the mountain.

They jumped into the driver's seat of the vehicle and sped off along the winding mountain road.
