Nothing happened that night. Just as dawn was breaking, there was a knock on the courtyard gate.

Liu Meifen, wearing an apron, went to open the door. Liu Meiling rushed in, her hair casually gathered behind her head. She looked unwell, with dark circles under her eyes, as if she hadn't slept well.

Zixia followed behind her, her braids tied crookedly, the red ribbon tied in a tight knot, and she was holding half a meat bun in her hand, gnawing on it with oil dripping from her mouth.

"Xiaoling, what's wrong? You look anxious and upset." Liu Meifen closed the door and followed her inside.

Liu Meiling plopped down on the stone bench, took a swig of the leftover cold tea, and slammed the bowl down on the stone table with a loud thud.

"It's Hongxia again! I don't know what's wrong with her these past two days. She's been learning boxing and practicing kicks with her dad. She gets up before dawn and makes a lot of noise in the yard, keeping everyone awake! I don't think she's up to anything good."

Chang Kun came out of the house and, upon hearing this, the corners of his mouth curved slightly.

Liu Meiling, with her sharp eyes, spotted him immediately, her gaze piercing like a knife: "I'll follow her later and see what kind of show she's up to all day. Does she really think she can fight?"

Chang Kun couldn't help but chuckle.

Liu Meiling glared at him, annoyed. "You, as the younger brother, shouldn't you be trying to stop him? You're just laughing!"

Having been scolded for no reason, Chang Kun knew that his second aunt was in a bad mood, and whoever ran into her would be unlucky.

Once Liu Meiling calmed down a bit, she slowly said, "Sister Hongxia is so old, she knows what she's doing."

"What a load of rubbish!" Liu Meiling slammed her hand on the stone table. "I asked her to go on a blind date a while ago, and she at least went to go through the motions, but she came back saying it wouldn't work!"

"These past few days have been terrible. She's found two boyfriends, and she won't even go to their places or see them! They've been urging her to come back several times already. She really needs to be taught a lesson!"

Zixia didn't care whether her mother was angry or not. She ran to Xiuer's room shouting and yelling, kicked the door open, and shouted so loudly that it could lift the roof off.

"Xiuer! Get up! My father said, 'Practice makes perfect, even in the sweltering heat of summer and the freezing cold of winter.' Get up and practice your boxing!"

A muffled groan came from the room, as if someone had dragged her out of bed, followed by Xiu'er's indistinct muttering.

"It's still dark... why are you practicing boxing..."

"It's dawn! Look outside the window, it's all bright!" Zixia said matter-of-factly.

"That'll have to wait until I get dressed..."

"You wear yours, I'll make you a set first!"

As Zixia spoke, she started gesturing in Xiuer's room, her little fists whistling through the air as she shouted "Hey ha hey ha".

Liu Meiling rubbed her forehead and let out a long sigh.

"Neither of my two daughters is easy to deal with! The older one is disobedient, and the younger one is just as noisy. She does somersaults and tumbles around the house every day, and the walls have been shaken down several times."

Liu Meifen offered a few words of advice from the side, and Liu Meiling listened, her lips twitching slightly as if she appreciated the words, but the worry on her face did not dissipate at all.

Seeing his second aunt's worried face, Chang Kun secretly chuckled to himself.

Sister Hongxia and Little Zixia are both like that, each more mischievous than the other. Auntie should probably practice playing a smaller version of that as soon as possible.

To avoid the situation where my second aunt's husband, a minister, doesn't even have someone to pass on his mantle.

He didn't dare say it aloud; if he did, his aunt would probably chase him all over the yard with a broom.

When Chang Kun arrived at his workplace, he had just pushed open the office door when he saw Zhang Qingfeng sitting in his chair.

Lei Guohong lay on the table pretending to read the newspaper. Old Zeng turned around from the window and winked at Chang Kun.

"Haha, Section Chief Zhang is back! Welcome back!"

Chang Kun pretended to be funny and shouted loudly.

Zhang Qingfeng stood up from his chair, his face flushed with an uncontrollable rosy glow.

He pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, tossed one to everyone, and said, "Haha, I'm back! It's a good day, so it's my treat—I'm treating everyone to meat! Don't be shy!"

Lei Guohong laughed and said, "What's wrong? Chang Kun didn't come, so aren't you going to treat us to meat?"

Zhang Qingfeng curled his lip: "Do you think meat is that delicious? There's a meat shortage everywhere right now. Don't even mention you guys, even if I pull some strings, I can't get much meat."

His gaze swept around the room and landed on Chang Kun. "It's because Chang Kun is here that we have a place to get meat!"

"Xiao Kun, I'm giving you a break. Go for a trip in the mountains and bring back some meat. You don't need much, just enough for everyone in our unit to have a little treat. I'll pay for it, it's on me."

Lei Guohong laughed heartily and said, "Enough for our unit to eat. We'll need quite a lot. One or two pigs wouldn't be too little, and three or five sheep wouldn't be too much!"

"Old Lei, are you planning to eat me out of house and home on my very first day back?"

After a few jokes and laughter, everyone was genuinely happy that Zhang Qingfeng was back.

It feels pretty good to have a leader who takes responsibility for their employees.

Chang Kun nodded in agreement. He had originally planned to take some time to go up the mountain. Director Song at the supply and marketing cooperative was waiting for the meat to be delivered, and Director Zhu of the state-run restaurant was also looking forward to it. Now that Zhang Qingfeng was going to treat everyone, he might as well take care of everything in one trip.

Zhang Qingfeng patted Chang Kun on the shoulder again and said, "Thank you for your hard work."

Chang Kun smiled. This was really not hard work for him. When others go hunting in the mountains, they have to check the weather and wind direction, and wander all over the mountains looking for prey. If they are lucky, they can catch one, but if they are unlucky, they will go all day and come back empty-handed.

He has a system and space; he can clearly sense the prey in the mountains, just like strolling through his own vegetable garden, and can hunt whichever one he wants.

Zhang Qingfeng took out a wad of cash from his pocket, stuffed it into Chang Kun's hand, and said that this was for buying meat, and any overpayment would be refunded and any underpayment would be collected.

Chang Kun didn't refuse and took it, putting it in his pocket.

Zhang Qingfeng added, "Don't push yourself. If you can't hit it, come back. We'll be happy even if we just eat pickled vegetables."

That's what he said, but his eyes were clearly full of expectation. Was he really going to serve pickled vegetables as a substitute for the first meal he was hosting on his first day back? He couldn't possibly do that.

After a brief flurry of activity in the office, Chang Kun tidied himself up, greeted Lei Guohong and Lao Zeng, and then turned and left.

As I cycled out of the city, the road northwards became increasingly narrow, and the gravel road turned into a dirt road.

The crops on both sides had been harvested, and a cool breeze blew across the fields. When we reached the foot of the mountain, we stored the bicycle in our storage space.

Once inside the mountains, Chang Kun didn't walk fast. As he walked, he activated his senses, and images of the prey within a few miles appeared in his mind.

There are many wild rabbits, one every few steps, and quite a few pheasants, hiding under the bushes with their long tail feathers trailing behind.

There are also long snakes, which coil up on rocks and bask in the sun.

Chang Kun didn't bother with these smaller opponents; it was too much trouble and not worth it.

As you go higher, the prey you sense becomes larger.

The blue sheep stood on the steep slope, the wild donkeys drank water in the ravine, and the wild boars were the most numerous, in groups, with big boars leading piglets, digging for food in the forest.

Chang Kun touched the gun in his hand, pondering what to do.

Lamb meat is tender; some people love it, while others dislike its gamey taste.

Wild donkey meat is firm and delicious when stewed, but it takes a lot of time and effort.

Wild boar meat has a perfect balance of fat and lean, making it ideal for braising. Cut it into large chunks, add plenty of soy sauce and sugar, and stew until the skin is shiny and the meat falls apart easily with a chopstick. The taste is sure to make everyone in the office drool.

As the system's sensing range expands, Chang Kun's indecisiveness intensifies—a truly blissful dilemma...
