Da Zhuang's hand, which was holding peanut shells, suddenly stopped.

The room suddenly became so quiet that the only sound could be the occasional faint crackling of the charcoal fire in the stove.

"Did you drink so much fake alcohol that you damaged your brain?"

Dazhuang tossed the two shelled peanuts into his mouth, chewed them loudly, and let out a loud, gruff laugh:

"A good person? You dare ask that word?"

He raised his hand and lightly tapped Erga's forehead, then began to berate him using his greasy, thick fingers:

"From childhood to adulthood, you climbed trees to raid bird nests, went down to the river to catch fish, plucked all the tail feathers from the village chief's hen when you were seven, stole watermelons from the production team with Da Niu when you were ten, and even took a nap under the straw stack during the autumn harvest the year before last!"

"If we're talking about scoundrels and good-for-nothings, you, Ergazi, would be in the top three for miles around; but if we're talking about truly wicked villains who commit crimes, murder, and arson, you wouldn't dare even if you had three dogs' worth of courage."

Da Zhuang picked up his wine bowl, gulped down a large mouthful, wiped his greasy mouth, and his fleshy body jiggled.

"In my eyes, you're hardly a good person, just a heartless, good-for-nothing scoundrel. Why did you suddenly let out that fart? Did some girl from Kanzi Village call you a scoundrel?"

Erga Zi listened to Da Zhuang's scolding, but his face showed none of his usual smirking and roguish demeanor.

He raised his bright red, straight eyes, and spoke slowly and deliberately, his voice extremely soft yet as heavy as a stone:

"Big Zhuang Brother."

"What are you doing?"

"I'm not kidding you, I'm serious."

Ergaizi's lips trembled slightly, and his hands were clenched into fists on his knees.

"I just want to hear the truth... Am I a good person or not?"

The atmosphere in the room suddenly turned cold.

Da Zhuang stared at Er Ga Zi for several breaths, and seeing the bloodshot eyes and undisguised stubbornness in him, he finally put away his mocking expression and slowly threw the crushed peanut shells in his hand onto the kang table.

"Then let me ask you something."

Erga didn't say anything, he just stared straight at him.

Dazhuang leaned forward, stared into Ergaizi's eyes, and asked in a deep voice:

Is Brother Shanhe a good person?

Ergaizi paused for a moment, and almost without thinking, blurted out:

"Brother Shanhe is definitely a good person!"

Dazhuang stared at him for a full two breaths, then suddenly slammed his hand on the kang table in annoyance, making the remaining wine in the bowl rattle.

"That settles it then!"

Dazhuang leaned forward, his two large, round eyes filled with a rough, earnest look:

"You and I were among the first to follow Brother Shanhe. How many years have we been on this journey?"

"When we were so poor we didn't even have a penny in our pockets, you followed him into the old forests and remote villages to collect hides, eating frozen cornbread and drinking snow water, without a single complaint; later, when you made a lot of money, you followed him to the city time and time again; and then when you joined the Red Star Factory, you were there for every single one of those underhanded things and deadly encounters!"

Da Zhuang's voice grew deeper as he spoke, his bloodshot eyes fixed intently on Er Gai Zi:

"You're always talking nonsense, bragging, and trying to take advantage of others. You'll never do a little extra work when you can slack off. Everyone knows these scoundrel traits, right? I know them better than anyone!"

"What if something really happens?"

"When your own brother is bullied, did you, Erga, even take a step back?"

"Brother Shanhe gave you some instructions, and you managed to dodge them this once?!"

"When it really came down to a life-or-death situation, when it really required effort, did you, Ergaizi, ever act like a coward? Every time, weren't we all shoulder to shoulder, going head-to-head together?!"

Erga opened his mouth, but his throat felt dry and blocked, and he couldn't utter a single word.

Dazhuang stretched out a rough finger and jabbed it hard into Ergaizi's chest, making his bones ache.

"If you were truly a selfish, rotten seed, would Brother Shanhe have been able to lead you all this way?!"

"If you were such an ungrateful wretch, would so many people in the whole village stay up all night, searching for you in the ravines and wastelands with flashlights, if you didn't come back on time tonight?!"

"My uncle and aunt were so worried they were wiping away tears. Seven or eight strong young men from the village didn't even have time for dinner, and they searched for you all over the mountains, their voices hoarse from calling out!"

As Dazhuang finished speaking, he leaned back heavily, grabbed a peanut from the table, and seemed to think that the question was so absurd as to not even be worth refuting.

He rubbed the peanut skins off his hands and gave Ergaizi a disgruntled sideways glance:

"So you come to me in the middle of the night asking if you're a good person?"

"Isn't that just pure nonsense?!"

Erga Zi felt a sharp pain in his chest from Da Zhuang's thick finger poking him, and his mind felt like a swarm of wasps had suddenly exploded, buzzing loudly.

The burning pain from the strong liquor in my throat hadn't subsided when the nausea and fear that had been weighing on my chest since the afternoon surged up suddenly, fueled by the alcohol.

His nose suddenly stung, and his eyes instantly turned red.

Erga quickly lowered his head, as if afraid that Dazhuang would see his pathetic state, and vigorously wiped his face with his dirty sleeve.

But this touch caused scalding tears to burst forth, streaming uncontrollably down her dusty cheeks.

"Oh shit……"

Erga Zi kept his head down, his shoulders trembling, and tears streaming down his face.

"That damned Liu Changgui..."

"You son of a bitch..."

"You beast..."

He raised his sleeve and wiped his face hard again, sniffing, his voice trembling more and more:

"That's his own daughter..."

"My own daughter..."

"How could he do that?"

"That's his own daughter!"

"Just a door-blocking stick that thick, and it smashed down on his head!"

"With a thud, the man collapsed to the ground, his face covered in blood, and the ground was covered in blood!"

"Her mother was terrified. She lay on the ground, hugging her daughter and crying, begging him to stop hitting her. But he just kept cursing and hitting her!"

"That's his wife, that's his own daughter, how could he do that?!"

Erga Zi was trembling all over, tears and snot streaming down his face, his voice growing more and more shaky and harsh:

"The most disgusting thing is that after he hit someone, he turned around and came over to me with a grin."

"He told me not to take it to heart, saying that the girl has always been resilient since she was little, and that he would discipline her for me, and that he would make sure she was completely obedient when she woke up!"

"It's like he hit me with that stick on my behalf!"

"It's as if I, Erga, went out with two stinking coins just to buy some livestock!"

"Fuck you old bastard! You dog!!"

"I'm just going on a blind date..."

"I just wanted to show off..."

Erga became more and more excited as he spoke, and suddenly grabbed the wine bowl on the table, tilted his head back, and gulped it down.

"Fuck Liu Changgui!"

"You son of a bitch!"

"The more I think about it, the more disgusting it becomes!"

"Hold!!"

Erga Zi suddenly slammed his hand on the kang table, causing the remaining wine to splash everywhere.

"I'm going to fuck that old bastard to death!"

"Hold!!"

He was like a firecracker that had been completely ignited by the alcohol. With red eyes, he jumped off the kang (a heated brick bed), not even bothering to put on his shoes. He bared his bare feet, smashed open the door, and rushed outside.

"Ergaizi! Have you fucking gone mad?!"

Dazhuang was startled by his sudden outburst, scattering peanut shells all over the ground. He hurriedly jumped off the kang (a heated brick bed), slipped on his shoes, and chased after him.

By the time Dazhuang caught up with Erga Zi to the outer room, Erga Zi had already ripped open the courtyard gate and plunged barefoot into the dark night wind.

"Hold!"

Dazhuang cursed, grabbed his cotton-padded coat and flashlight from behind the door, and ran after him.

"Ergaizi! You stop right there!"
