The night wind howled, scraping against my face like a knife.

The thick, dark clouds overhead were torn to shreds by the gale, and a cold, full moon peeked out from the gaps in the clouds. The pale moonlight spread across the frozen, hard ground, making the white frost on the ground gleam with a chilling light.

Erga Zi walked barefoot over pebbles and ice shards, the biting cold seeping into his bones, but he seemed oblivious to the pain. Fueled by the burning liquor in his chest, he ran wildly with red eyes.

Instead of heading towards the village entrance, he plunged into the open space at the east end of the village.

At the end of the open space was a row of newly built red brick warehouses.

It was built after Zhao Shanhe and his team set up the transport team. It usually stores tools for repairing vehicles, tires, belts, bearings and other spare parts. Several Jiefang trucks used for transportation are also parked here, and barrels of spare fuel are stacked in the corner.

"Bang!"

Erga rushed to the warehouse door, not even thinking about finding the key, and gritted his teeth as he kicked it!

"Bang!"

The heavy wooden door shuddered violently, the rusty lock snapped open with a "crack," and the two door panels slammed into the brick wall with a dull thud.

A strong smell of engine oil and rust hit me.

The pale moonlight slanted into the warehouse through the open doorway, landing directly on the dark green Liberation truck at the front.

Ergaizi, panting heavily, rushed to the back of the truck, dragged two spare oil drums from the wall, and threw them into the truck bed with a "clang! clang!"

"You old bastard..."

His teeth were clenched so tightly they were grinding together, and his bloodshot eyes were fixed on the front of him.

"I'll burn your doghouse down!"

Before he could finish speaking, Ergazi yanked open the car door and climbed into the driver's seat.

The key is hanging under the steering wheel.

He grabbed the key and twisted it sharply.

"Rat-a-tat-tat—BOOM!!"

The dormant engine suddenly roused itself, and the entire truck began to shake violently, with a thick exhaust pipe suddenly spewing out a plume of black smoke.

Erga pushed the gear lever up, turned the steering wheel all the way to the lock, and slammed his bare foot down on the accelerator!

"boom--!"

The Liberation truck suddenly lurched forward, its large tires rolling over the warehouse, speeding across the open space, and crashing directly onto the dirt road leading to Xiakanzi Village.

The car was going faster and faster.

The engine's deep roar rolled across the silent wilderness, two bright headlights swayed violently ahead, and the bumpy dirt road was torn out of the darkness piece by piece, then quickly left behind the vehicle.

The tires crushed the frozen clods of earth, sending pebbles flying wildly into the weeds on either side.

Ergai gripped the cold steering wheel tightly with both hands, veins bulging, his whole body shaking violently with the driver's seat. Instead of letting go of the accelerator, he slammed it down!

"quick!"

"Faster!"

The cold wind blew straight in through the not-quite-closed car window, making his messy hair fly wildly.

A large crater suddenly appeared in the headlights ahead.

Erga didn't even try to dodge.

"Bang—!"

The large front wheel ran right into it, and the entire front of the car suddenly bounced upwards!

Erga Zi's head slammed against the roof of the driver's cab with a "bang," and his vision went black for a moment from the pain. After landing, he just shook his head and gripped the steering wheel tightly again.

"Oh shit!"

"Hurry up and get on with it!!"

The accelerator was pressed down again.

The engine roared louder and louder, and the metal oil drums in the back of the truck were jolted and rattled, the sound carrying far into the dark wilderness.

We've reached a sharp bend.

Erga swung the steering wheel violently.

The massive vehicle swerved past the roadside ditch, its cargo bed swung violently, sending up a cloud of withered grass and dust.

Another pitfall.

Just crush it!

Another bend.

Rinse it anyway!

This large Liberation truck roared and lurched all the way, braving the moonlight to make its way across several miles of desolate road.

Before long, the outlines of a dark mass of houses finally appeared in front of them.

Xiakanzi Village!

Ergazi's two scarlet eyes suddenly widened.

"arrive!"

The bare foot pressed down again!

"boom--!!"

The engine suddenly let out a deafening roar.

Green Liberation trucks, kicking up clouds of dust, rushed into the village entrance. In an instant, the once desolate Xiakanzi Village seemed to have been kicked over!

"Woof woof woof!!"

"Woof! Woof woof woof!!"

The village's guard dogs began barking incessantly.

One family made a sound.

Both companies responded.

In the blink of an eye, the shrill barking of dogs came from all directions.

The earth-shaking noise woke up several families who had already gone to bed, and one by one, dim kerosene lamps lit up in their dark mud houses.

"What's that noise?!"

"Who is it?!"

"Where did this car come from in the middle of the night?!"

Some people ran to the window without even buttoning up their cotton-padded coats, slipped on their shoes, and pushed open the window to look outside.

Before he could even see it clearly—

"Boom!"

Two bright headlights swept past the window!

A green Jiefang truck, billowing black smoke, roared past in the middle of the dirt road, its large tires kicking up dry grass, ice shards, and dust, leaving only the roar of its engine that shook the windows.

Erga didn't even turn his head.

He remembered the route he had taken during the day very clearly.

As soon as they reached the fork in the road, Ergazi suddenly swung the steering wheel, and the huge front of the car suddenly turned right. The rear wheels slid halfway across the frozen dirt road before being pulled right back by the powerful engine.

The next instant, two blinding white headlights pierced through the dust and shone straight on the three low, dilapidated mud-brick houses of the Liu family at the east end of the village.

Ergazi's eyes were fixed on the rickety wooden gate in front of him, his eyes bloodshot and red.

The barefoot pedal didn't loosen; instead, it was welded firmly to the undercarriage, right up to the accelerator pedal!

He slammed his entire body onto the steering wheel, letting out a hysterical roar from his throat:

"Liu Changgui! You son of a bitch, get out here right now!!"

"boom--!!"

The Jiefang truck let out a screeching roar as it reached its limit, its several-ton steel body kicking up clouds of dust as it rammed headfirst into the gate of the Liu family compound!

"BOOM—!!"

The two broken wooden doors couldn't even hold on for half a breath before they were smashed to pieces!

The door frame and the mud walls on both sides collapsed with a roar, and broken wood, mud, and bits of grass flew everywhere.

The massive tires rolled over the rubble, and the entire vehicle continued its momentum as it forcefully entered the yard. A large stack of timber stacked against the wall was swept away by the heavy safety bar and exploded on the spot, scattering more than a dozen heavy logs everywhere.

Directly in front of us are the three low, mud-brick houses belonging to the Liu family.

Erga's eyes were bloodshot, staring intently at the approaching main room, his teeth grinding together.

"Fuck you! Get the hell out of here!!"

"Bang--!!"

A deafening roar, like the earth shaking, exploded in the village!

The front of the car crashed hard into the rammed earth wall in front of the main room, causing the whole room to shake violently. The already cracked earth wall was pushed open with a huge hole, and large pieces of adobe bricks and mud collapsed with a roar.

The window frame was knocked askew and thrown into the house. Mud, broken tiles, and dry grass from the eaves splattered onto the roof of the cab, and a choking cloud of dust instantly swallowed the entire front of the vehicle.

The truck was finally stuck in the rubble.

The engine was still roaring low, and the exhaust pipe was constantly spewing out acrid black smoke.

Erga was jolted forward, his forehead slamming hard against the steering wheel, instantly drawing blood that flowed down his brow bone to his chin.

He shook his dizzy head violently, raised his sleeve and wiped it haphazardly, not even looking at the bloodstains on his palm, staring intently at the ruins in the courtyard through the smoke and dust.

"Liu Changgui..."

Erga Zi grinned, his mouth smeared with blood and foam, breathing heavily:

"You get the hell out here!"

"Bang!"

He kicked open the deformed driver's side door and jumped out of the car barefoot.

Pebbles and splinters of wood pierced the soles of his feet, but he seemed completely oblivious to the pain, rushing headlong into the main room, which was now in ruins, covered in dust.

"Weren't you supposed to be really good this afternoon?! Weren't you so awesome?!"

"Where's the guts you had when you were hitting someone with that door-blocking stick?! You get out here right now!!"

"Come on! Hurl your paws at me! Which rat hole are you hiding in, cowardly turtle?!"

Aside from the choking dust and collapsed clods of earth inside, no one uttered a sound.

Erga's eyes were bloodshot. He rushed to the door of the inner room, kicked the already rickety wooden door to pieces, and stepped inside.

The bedding on the kang (a heated brick bed) was in disarray, and a few worn-out shoes lay on the floor. The room was pitch black, without a soul in sight.

He suddenly turned around and rushed into the kitchen and woodshed next door, kicking the woodpile furiously.

"Hold!"

Erga kicked over the broken wooden basin by the door, panting as he rushed back into the yard, and yelled again at the top of his lungs:

"Liu Changgui! You fucking get out here right now!!"

Aside from the barking of dogs, no one answered.

Standing amidst the mess in the yard, Erga Zi gasped for breath before finally understanding what was happening—

The person really ran away.

"OK……"

"Sure!"

He gritted his teeth and cursed, then turned his head sharply. His bloodshot eyes swept over the collapsed courtyard wall and the scattered timber, before finally fixing his gaze on the Liberation truck whose front half was stuck in the main room.

To be more precise—

It was nailed to the two dark green metal oil drums in the back of the truck.

Erga stared at the two buckets for a couple of moments, then his lips twitched suddenly.

"You old bastard..."

"You ran away, didn't you?"

"OK!"

He pointed at the three dilapidated houses of the Liu family and roared at the top of his lungs:

"You think you can get away?"

"I'll see where your family runs now!!"
